Ok ill try again. In GtaIV sometimes you are told to go to a certain place to do the mission, that is far from your safehouse. Its only when you get there you find out you have to abandon your car you may like be it rare or just nice. Its not like other missions where your car saves to the spot for you afterwards if the mission takes place in the same location. Instead you lose the car and cant retrieve it afterwards. What alternative should there be.

THIS TIME , PLEASE DONT START TROLLING OR TRY TO ACT SMART ( TWO PEOPLE IN PARTICULER ). JUST ADD HONEST OPINIONS AND DISCUSSION

THANKS

I chose "Other" because I want something similar to GTA III. I mean, the cars there, once left, will stay on the street for like a whole in-game day!!! I want this to happen and if you don't pick the car up in maybe 1 day, it will disappear.

I liked it best in the GTA III era with garages. You buy a house with a certain amount of garages, and the cars you put in the garage would be saved. I think that worked better than in GTA IV with the parking spots.

We need garages from III era again.I lose almost any vehicle i like in IV/EFLC parking spots. And when you save it in garage it should be possibly to retrieve it if its losted,no matter how unrealistic that is.

Hmmm nice bike

I think besides having the usual safehouse garages, we should also be able to use parking spaces for storing more cars for an added fee. The safehouse garages would work like they did in the III era, and the parking spaces (which would be on streets with meters, in parking lots, and in parking garages) would work more like the spaces in IV.

I think we should have 1 SPECIAL car which we choose to save back at our garage, no matter what happens to it it always respawns. You can change the special car aswell. You can save other cars also but they do not respawn if blown up or lost. Only the special car does

Would be cool to have to pay for a ticket to park there, that expires at a certain time, or gets clamped if not there on time ( but clamping is slighlty far fetched tbh ) maybe instead you just pay a fine that increases the longer you dont retrieve it. I like your idea of paying to park somewhere though, shouldve thrown that in the poll options.

I voted Other - GTA III era

This was perfected early on, there's no logical reason to change the system. Enhance it, maybe, but not change it. Carparks could work as an addition, but not as a stand-alone system. As I've said in another thread, I would like to see a spawn system where you can purchase a spawn and buy a car for it (or store whatever vehicle you have in it, size permitting), with the spawn providing a single instance of that car, crash it etc and it will respawn but you can only have one out at a time, might need a reset function too.

"We should be able to save cars to parking spots anywhere e.g carparks." - Stupid, unnecessary variables, end up with Bethesda-like save file issues

"Only a limited number can be saved at any time or location." Depends on how this is implemented. If I ditch a car at the start of the game, I don't want that car to remain there throughout the duration of the playthrough.

"We should be able to save it back to our garage immidietely at any point." Again I think this is stupid, depending on how it is implemented. If for example you could call a gangmember to pick up the car and store it for you (for a price) then I think it could work, but storing them instantly, no.

"Stay the same." IV's system was a failed attempt at fixing something that wasn't broken(in turn, breaking it rather than improving it), I hope they've learned from this mistake.

This happens sometime in GTAVC too. But very funny thing once happen to me:

I remember some years before, I once flipped with a sandking, which got destroyed by this, in little haiti where the sewer is and the destroyed sandking remained like for ever there o.O

Well anyway, I really want to save cars on park slots, on which you must pay sometime... or refuse the paying tounge2.gif. And if you don't use them for maybe 7 days, that they will get towed away to the next impound, where the car will dissapear after 3 days, and you will have a chance to break in and steal the car like in the beta mission "Impound" from GTASA sly.gif

Garages must be back anyway.

Garages worked better than safehouse parking spaces in GTA IV, so they either need to keep garages or change the parking spaces. Cars parked there in safehouses should never disappear.

As for parking away from safehouses, they should make the many car parks (or 'parking lots') already in the game actually usable. You'd have to pay for them but it would be safer than leaving them on the street. Maybe your car could get stolen instead of disappearing and you could modify your car with a car alarm and a GPS tracker. It might be fun to track your priceless Infernus down to a gang hide-out and get your revenge. Either that or you could report it to the police and hopefully it would turn up.

Those last ideas will never happen, but I at least hope for usable car parks / parking spots (and purchasable cars).

I enjoyed the III era games because of the glitch where you could store way more cars than you were allowed.

Legit, I stored 8 cars in the very first safehouse you get! I would love that to return!

Oh and I'd like the option to pay for parking in random parts of the city, and then you can place up to 5 color-coded markers on your map, and each one would represent where a parked car is that you stored. If you no longer care for a car that was parked, you can simply remove that marker. icon14.gif

I think that cars shouldn't dissapear so quickly, I think it would be good if you parked your car legally and you own it (ie baught from a dealer or went to a pay n spray) for it to stay parked there untill you move it. If you park legally and you dont own the car it gets towed away after a day (24mins) and you cant retrieve it. If you park illegally and you own your car then it should be towed to an impound after 4 hours (4mins) and then you have to pay $200 release fee to get it back or if you catch the tow truck you can chase after it and steal your car back before it gets to impound which in turn gives you a 2-3 star wanted level but you get your car back. If you park illegally in a car you dont own then it will be towed away after 2 hours (2 mins) in a high security truck so you cant get it back at all.

Parking spaces pissed me off, I spent ages getting a sultan in GTA 4 and it ended up being knocked off the space and despawning because of the idiotic AI.

GTA 3 era was amazing with these things, it had function, I do not know why everything was changed to become even worse but I hope we don't get that in GTA V, garages need to come back. Parking spots sound cool, you could stroll around the street and look for a parking spot instead of leaving a 4x4 in the middle of a road.

I was playing GtaIV again and did a mission for Brucie called "Easy as can be". You have to go rob a car down an alley and return it to his lockup. However, I was in a rare vehicle and I had to abandon it to steal this car, which was an oracle btw. It really annoyes me in these missions that you can be in a nice car that took you ages to get, only to disappear when and after you do the mission. Is it time we can do one of these options above to avoid losing our cars we really like? Another example it when you get that Infernus from Bernie, if you dont save it, its extremely hard to find once lost. This I'm sure has happened to you, but what would you pick if any? I'd say save it to any location like parking lots etc... and go back to collect them later.

If this was already discussed, I accept the lock. icon14.gif

Easy as Can be? Have you ever plays GTA IV before? I'm guessing no because if you did, you would know you need to park your car at a safehouse before going to pick up the other car. Also, common sense says if you are in a car and you to pick up another one, you are obviously going to lose tge previous one. Another thing, the word "rare" should indicate the vehicle is worthy of more importance than others; therefore, you should have store it right away.

OT: It seems to me you made this thread because you were forced to lose a car during a mission? If this is the case, be more careful and smarter when handling rare vehicles. If not, your proposal for a carpark that saves vehicles is somewhat similar to SR series vehicle storage. I personally would like a return to garages to store vehicles. These "NO PARKING" areas are okay but they tend to be a pain more then a help.

Here's a hint: don't do missions in rare vehicles if you know that you'll have to steal a car - go to a safehouse, park the car and find the sh*ttiest hatchback you can find.

Yes dips*it, but you arent told this until your arrive there and midway through the mission at which point you cant go back to your safehouse. Also this isnt about that mission in general, its about when your miles away from your house and you dont want to make numerous trips back and forward for the sake of your car, so we want an easier alternative. And, saying i havent played a gta game, how do you think i can name missions and their role. Read the description and think before you make a ridiculous post next time suicidal.gif

Funny how you managed to make a mistake that involves COMMON SENSE. Oh? So you did play the mission before? Then you should have no excuse for NOT saving your vehicle if it was so damn special and rare to you. I understand tge point of this topic, but it sounds lke you are upset you lost a rare car IMO.

The problem with the garages were that sometimes they would take like 10 seconds to open. This seemed to happen the further I progressed in the game and the more times I saved vehicles in the garages. I guess that's why Rockstar chose to use parking spaces instead so you have instant access.

I know how annoying it can be on this forum with the ammont of trolls on here, also if you do want to re-put up the first post I think I found it so you dont need to write the whole thing again from scratch:

I think V should have variety and blend options from SA and IV: garages, parking spaces, lots, airplane hangers, etc. I'd rather V not adopt the SR system where cars are permanently stored. The game is called Grand Theft Auto, there wouldn't be much incentive to steal cars if you retained and could summon the same vehicle at any time. This is cheating, and there are spawn cheats that serve this very function.

I'm not sure what the bitching is all about with the parking spaces in IV. Maybe once or twice in the years I've been playing IV has a saved car just disappeared. (One of those times I restarted my game and the car magically re-appeared!) Additionally, you could always just catch a cab to the Turismo dealership and enjoy the fastest car in the game with little to no effort.

As for losing cars while doing missions, use common sense. GTA has always been this way. If you have a rare car that you're really gay for, don't use it on missions. In real life, you wouldn't take your prized Ferrari to a bank heist where there's the very concrete possibility that you may have to ditch your ride to evade the law. Again, this is why the Turismo was such a beautiful thing in IV: one could be jacked at any time and there was no stress in losing it.

Then you should have no excuse for NOT saving your vehicle if it was so damn special and rare to you. I understand tge point of this topic, but it sounds lke you are upset you lost a rare car IMO.

What cant you read? Stop trolling you two please and if you have nothing honest and valuable to say dont. You are the kind of people who ruin these things

Excuse me? I go out of my way to actually provide ADVICE and I'm labeled a troll?

GO suicidal.gif YOURSELF!

To me there are two different issues in discussion here, and some people don't seem to distinguish between the two. So here's how I look at it.

One issue, is of how the game SAVES cars (i.e. in your parking spots/garages) so that they are saved when you save the game.

The second issue is of how the game REMEMBERS cars. i.e. cars that you're driving or have recently driven, but that haven't been parked in a parking slot or garage.

Let me discuss how the game saves cars first. The first thing that always comes up during this discussion is the issue of losing cars in GTA:IV's street parking mechanism. The street parking provided by GTA:IV is authentic to New York; a city in which space is at a premium. Only the rich and well heeled can afford property with off street parking. Unfortunately, our three GTA:IV protagonists are anything but rich.

Parking in L.A. or Los Santos is going to be quite different. Space is not generally an issue in Los Angeles. We can expect to see garages, drive ways and parking lots. There will probably be little or no on street parking slots. As such we can expect any open air parking to be much further way from the sources of interference we experienced in Liberty City.

Now the second issue of how the game remembers cars. I am going to swiftly point out that the amount of memory it takes to remember cars is not trivial. There are certain obvious things about vehicles the game has to remember. The model of car, the variant (i.e. hard top, soft top, sports model, etc), it's colour and so forth. What really takes up the space though is the scratches and vehicle damage. Yes, all that information about that fancy deformable bodywork has to be remembered. And not just for your car, but for all the ped cars in your vicinity.

That's part of the reason why your parking spaces magically repair your car. Once you pass out of a certain radius, all the detail about the vehicle damage gets dropped to save space. When you save the game, it also discards the damage data related to any vehicles in your parking slots.

That's why vehicles not parked in save slots disappear. It does it to recover the memory to reuse for other vehicles. GTA:IV strictly only remembers the last car you drove and those in your save slots. If you get in another vehicle, then once you pass out of "range" of your first car, it discards it.

The other time it deletes vehicles is when it needs to clear particular locations for mission purposes. For instance, when you do Four Leaf Clover, it deletes the four door car you arrived in so that it can put all the police cars there.

Personally, I think the solution is to have the game remember the last 2 or 3 vehicles you drove. So that, if we were to use Four Leaf Clover as an example, you drive your Turismo to Packie's house. Start the mission. You find a four door sedan to drive to the job. Then once you escape, you jack another car to drive back to Packie's. Remembering the last 3 cars you drove would mean that your Turismo would still be there.

Of course, the issue here then is memory. The current generation consoles may not have enough RAM to do this, unless the game were to "page" the vehicles to be remembered to hard drive when you drive out of "range" and reload them as part of the streaming process when you return.

But I doubt they will do this. Be nice if they did though.

I would like to have a "tag" feature where you put a permanent marker on your car/bike/plane/boat/toilet and that way if you want to drive it you know it will always be available to use exactly where you left it(unless you park it in the middle of the street, then it would be on the police compound)
