  1. 1. what kinda navigation system do u want to show u where to go?

    • like in gta4: a colored line in the radar/map (and navy speech)
      121
    • a bright skyscratching beam like the ones in the san andreas races
      4
    • indicator arrows before the turn
      6
    • a tiny line directly on the street

there is something in GTA that keeps annoying me all the time.

everytime i have to go somewhere i keep looking on the little map in the corner to check for the way, and nearly every time its kinda risky to do so.

driving to missionspots is never fluently, i always have to move my eyes away from the road to the little radar and back again...

also u stick to a given way that wont even show u where the target is, until u are nearly there.

thats why i would suggest an optional ON SCREEN MARKER like the bright skyscratching beam we know from the races!

imagine u just started a mission, u get to your car and somewhere in greater distance u see this thin beam going up in the sky,

u know the direction, u know the distance and while driving there u always see where to go, and u can feel free to take any road u like with out loosing ur target.

most important, u see where to go without having to look in the corners of the screen (which often leads to little accidents)

i would not like to have indicators blinking on screen, that would be to arcade.

its important not to drive by instruction on every corner. u should decide which way to go

I agree, looking at the radar can kind of break the immersion of driving around the city. I really like your idea of putting a tiny line on the road. At least then you don't have to shift your eyes too far from the road.

when in a car the mini map becomes your sat nav. i think it makes it more immersive. dont see any problems with it.

I d hate arrows on the street like in Need for Speed or in a race in San Andreas. I would never use it. That d just destroy the realism of the game.

And what would happen if you ended up between some tall buildings? Then you wouldn't see anything! And you would need to rotate your camera all the time in order to find the beam. That's a lot easier than just looking at your radar, right? It's a lot more distracting than the radar.

And wouldn't that make the radar uselees, resulting in it being removed from the game? We wouldn't want that.

You didn't mention just setting a waypoint. I like that way. Just set a way point and you go in the general direction. That means you don't have to look at the radar the whole time, you'll still make mistakes but from those mistakes, you learn the map AND you get to check out the environment.

There's no map learning in GTA IV with the radar and it keeps you constantly looking at the HUD and not the environment.

It's got to be the one from gta IV, i am not good with maps but it took me 3 or 4 days after unlocking alderney and i could remember the map.If the said go to X in northwood, i would just look at the main map when you press start and then i didn't need to look. Its very easy after a week or so.

NO! That made a certain GTA III mission nigh on improbable to complete.

I felt it was ok in GTA IV because it felt like I was actually learning the city easier through the GPS and I knew how to get to various landmarks so instead of GPS I used my memory to get as close and then just drive around till I found it and now I know Liberty City better than parts of the city I live in.

I think having a line directly on the road breaks the immersion more.

I like GTA IV's method: simple, practical, and realistic (like a gps).

argh damnit.. i should have made the questions better

like: gta4 style + optional beam !!! (optional is the key)

someone said before, u dont really learn the citymap by just looking on the radar, but by looking around in the enviroment, thats what a beam would be for. and between skycrapers u still have your radarnavi fom gta4

and -of course- the beam would ONLY be at the destination !

leik oh em jeez!

I don't understand how you people can find this to be a problem. Sometimes I used to catch my self watching TV, still driving around in SA without even looking at my monitor. If you know the city, it's not a problem. How do you go anywhere in real life?

I think people are forgetting that in gta 4 the sat nav

Talks and tells you where to turn so....

I honestly like th indicator idea; makes the game more realistic and gigs cars a purpose to use them (besides AI). I understand we are criminals and most of the time break the law but even criminals in real life avoid attention and use turn signals. After all a criminal is a civilian that commits a crime. Back to my point, turning signal idea is great. Add that along with the GPS and radar and there's no way you can get lost.

ummm taking ur eyes of the screen for a split second causes u to crash? its not the maps fault its ur sh*tty driving... pretty sure its not that hard. The map becomes the navigator anyways so there is no immersion broken

By indicator arrows, I thought you meant having the indicators on your car flash in the required direction before the turn: totally immersive. I'd love that option. I'm seriously contemplating playing V without the radar because IV felt weird just looking at the mini-map all the time.

Of course, if R* implement interior views (not a chance mad.gif) then we can follow the sat-nav screen in the car itself, and buy a TomTom for cars without it.

I've been waiting for this since III. I got so excited in GTA IV when I saw the peds using them, then after about 15 minutes of trying buttons and combinations of buttons, I realized that I couldn't use them. cryani.gif

Luckily there's always NFS Porsche Unleashed.

The GTA 4 system worked well for me, felt like you were looking at a sat-nav.

I also liked GTA IV's system... Although it would be interesting to let us know about a turn coming up if the car's turning indicator would turn on before the turn.. that would be noticeable and indication the direction to take.

Indicators please, yes the flashing ones on the car. I dont mind the sat nav but I don't have a big scale memory for places like liberty city, so for people like me there should be an option for indicators as soon as u put a waypoint on the map

Like in GTA IV just add something like arrows in air in Saints Row 3, but not too much visible.

Btw: im not fan of SR.

I've never had this problem while driving, so I'd be very much happy with the navigation system remaining on the minimap like in IV. Just a quick glance down at the map to see where I need to turn and I'm good to go. And the cars with a talking GPS made navigation even easier!

the GPS system was cool in IV and very convenient but i never really felt like i got to "know" the city because of it, or maybe I never got to really "know" the city because it all looked the same to me, I'm still not sure which was the problem. I just remember getting to know Ganton, Rodeo and Vinewood as well as other areas specifically really well in SA and also getting to know every knook and cranny of VC like I had lived there for years, it could have been because I was just more attached to those places though.
