Fresh-Prince
I was just wondering if you think Rockstar would recycle things from LA Noire to put in GTA V? I would imagine it would save a lot of effort and time for them if they reused some the buildings and houses, maybe even the ones that are enter-able as well. Or would they not likely borrow something like this? Just a curious question.
TheGodDamnMaster
LA Noire didn't use the RAGE engine. Junior.
As far as I know, the engine wasn't made by R*, but the game was.
Nebby
And Team Bondi shut down... plus, Rockstar* isn't lazy. They're perfectly capable of recreating L.A..
ChillyPhilly
To add to that, GTA V won't be set in in 1947. Most of the buildings you see in LA Noire - very many at least - would have long since been demolished anyway.
Fresh-Prince
Well I don't think the RAGE engine would have to do much with it. They would still be able to use the 3d models from it. And yea, my bad, I forgot R* didn't actually make it, but I would imagine they could still use some the already made contents of the game as they still published it and had some sort of agreement with Team Bondi. DS 17
R* is probably not allowed reusing parts of LA Noire. I doubt they would have the licence for that.

Fresh-Prince
Yea, I'm talking about random buildings, such as houses. I mean correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure houses in LA that were built in the 40's still exist today. They aren't exactly drastically different visually from the exterior. They may need some updating and such, but could still be used for GTA V.
Gtaghost22
La Noire is set in the 40s, plus R* isnt lazy they wont do that. They are capable of creating a Modern LA from the scratch

If my knowledge about LA is reasonably accurate, the majority of houses from the 40s still standing today are south of the CBD, towards the Ladera Heights/Wilmington region. Old houses still exist across all of Los Angeles across the whole metropolitan area. Scattered though.
Fresh-Prince
I know they are capable of making their own, I'm just putting out the possibility. Another example, city hall in LA Noire, may be in the 40's, but it looks exactly the same as any other major building in LA would look today as well. Member#1
And L.A. Noire is a recreation of Los Angeles. GTA V is in the fantastic city of Los Santos, all L.A. look-a-like buildings and no copies.

llpalm08
I think the only thing R*N might use that was used in LA Noire is the motion scan. I think it would be easier for them to not reuse parts of Noire's city as it would mean transfering between engines as GTA is done on RAGE and Noire was done on Havok which is the same engine as Saints Row and Halo. Magic_Al
They can probably reuse a lot of the location research. Teams were sent out to photograph buildings in the present day that also existed in the 1940s. Now those photos can be used as a present-day reference for those locations and save money for having to send people out again. However, L.A. Noire was a VERY different kind of game map than a GTA game. You will only be able to find a fraction of the same buildings in both L.A. Noire and GTA V, even if most L.A. Noire buildings still exist in the real Los Angeles. There won't be room for them on GTA V's map. L.A. Noire recreated a contiguous 8 square mile slice of historical Los Angeles down to the actual street grid. A GTA map takes things from all over a city or region and condenses them into a smaller area, making up a fictional landscape that captures the essence of a city. The "L.A. Noire" part of Los Santos would be shrunk to much, much less than 8 square miles and feature only the most representative locations to create the feeling of that part of the city. Secura
L.A Noire is set in the 1940's, GTA V is set in present day.. Also L.A Noire didn't use rage. Yeah, and from the looks of the trailer it seems that R* has already modelled Los Santos, besides, taking a few buildings from LA Noire's engine and porting the models over to RAGE seems to lazy and inefficient for R* to even think about doing.( Oh and the fact that 1947's LA is massively different to R*'s modern day fictional Los Santos)
Duxfever
I'm surprised. No one noticed how in the trailer, it looks like GTA V has taken and freshened up assets from L.A. Noire. And in turn, Max Payne 3 looks like it also takes assets from L.A. Noire also. And I'm still confused on why the RAGE team was credited in L.A. Noire. Magic_Al
And I'm still confused on why the RAGE team was credited in L.A. Noire. They apparently collaborated with Team Bondi's people on Team Bondi's engine. Obviously both engines do a lot of similar things. Team Bondi needed help getting the game finished or Rockstar wouldn't have sent all those people.
HOTMILFDAD
Just to be clear, Rockstar did help with the development of LA Noire. They didn't just publish it. Anyway, I've never played LA Noire before so I can't say what they'll take out of it (besides the obvious Motionscan), but I can see them taking the "shooting while prone" mechanic from MP3's engine as well as bits from RDR and maybe MCLA (for reference).
