Fire and Police stuff

Hello All! my name is Chris and I am a Volunteer firefighter in a small town in New York, but i love to roleplay on GTA:IV multiplayer as a police officer and a Firefighter. I have recently made an account here, but i have been viewing these boards since they were started. Anyways i have looked thru many threads and have seen some on Police Vehicles, but i didn't see any on the LA City Fire Department, such as the Vehicles, gear, or anything! First i will start with the FD and then maybe post about the Police department (i know more on the FD than on the PD).

LA City FD:

LA City FD is one of the largest fire departments in the country. There are many types of Fire trucks, Fire facility's, and fire operations and Gear/Equipment. Now LA City FD has a system with there trucks were there is an assessment engine, aka an ALS engine (which have the word "Class 1" written on the side and the flat cab roofs) which have paramedics on them along with Firefighters. These trucks respond for all calls in the city with crews from 4 to 6 (i think) and will be the ones to put out the fire. Now LA City FD also has a second kind of Fire Engine called a Class 2 engine, or a BLS engine (these are the kind that have the raised cab behind the lightbar) which respond to primarily Fires, but will respond to medical calls depending on there district. There is also the Famous Ladder Trucks. in LA City, the ladder trucks are the tractor trailer kinds, also known as "Tillers" which are operated differently than a regular ladder truck that "Your" town may have were instead of there being just the one man driving the truck from the cab, there is also someone driving the trailer. "Driving the Trailer? Like accelerating and everything?" no silly, they only steer the trailer and have an emergency brake if needed. Also in the LA City FD there are the fire SUV's which carry the fire chief who tells everyone what to do. there is also the USAR rigs which stands for Urban Search And Rescue and these guys drive the Really big trucks that carry all the equipment used to rescue people in collapsed buildings and in car crashes and other scenes. There is also the ALS ambulance's and the BLS ambulances. The ALS ambulances are the all red ambulances and the BLS ambulances are the Red and white ones.

I would love to see in the game most of these vehicles, i could care less about the USAR truck and the different types of ambo's. If Rockstar added in a Fire station that had the open Garage where the rigs are parked at, that would be great, but also if there was a more in-depth fire station with kitchen, sleeping area, offices, ect., even if there was just the one Firehouse like this in the Middle of Los Santos somewhere, that would make me extremely happy. Also if the rigs were to spawn in a side parking lot and the vehicle would be random starting from the ALS Engine, to BLS engine, to the tiller, then to the Fire SUV, and then back to the ALS Engine and this cycle were to continue like this, that would help "Roleplayer's" like me to be able to grab the als engine and then make the tiller spawn by coming back then me and my multiplayer friends could use the firehouse as an Actual working fire station (Roleplaying of course). Also if all of these setting could be moved into Multiplayer, specifically Freemode, then that would be Amazing!

Now imagine playing in Freemode you and your friends need to make a crazy getta-way, but there is 5 of you and you dont want to take 2 vehicles and you all just "happen" to stumble into a fire station with one of these tillers parked out in the side lot. one of you jumps on the trailer controls and 2 jump onto the actual ladder portion and the other 2 get into the cab and you all make your getta-way on a fire truck. the two on the ladder could have AR's out shooting at your chaser's and the trailer driver, also known as the tillerman would be using the trailer to hit the bad guys cars and swatting them away. Now THAT would be really awesome, doesn't matter who you are.

Now you cant have all of this and not include the fire gear, that just wouldn't be right (in my opinion). how would you access this gear in multiplayer you might ask. well it could be accessed before the game starts in the lobby or in singleplayer thru the phone's multiplayer options called "Player Appearance" or something like that and change it there. but what about for players like me who are in the game dressed in the station gear as a firefighter (thats the uniform that looks like the police uniform) and then you get "dispatched" to a "Call" and you need to be in Full Firefighter Gear, coat and all but you dont want to leave the game? well then you could just access your appearance like you would in single player and be able to change it In-Game! and this would apply to everyone, not just the higher level players.

(And the Firefighter Gear should be available to everyone when they start the game, such as a specific section of clothing called "Job Titles" and these kind of clothes should be available to buy somewhere in single player as well.)

Another thing that could be added to the effects could be fire effects. in GTA:SA if a fire was left alone it would start to get bigger and spread and sooner or later a Fire engine would show up to put out the fire. Now in GTA IV you could call the Fire Department, but they wouldn't do anything except for get in the way, even if a car was on fire. Now if the Fire effects from GTA:SA could be added and improved by adding in thicker smoke or something and then implied into GTA V (Five) that would be great! maybe have it so the water cannon on the Fire engine could still put out the fire, and if the water stream was in a more "Straight" flow, that would be greatly appreciated too.

Also in GTA:SA there was the Fire extinguisher which would actually work and put out the fire and maybe have this put into GTA V (Five). And maybe add in the Flamethrower, Molotov cocktails and the Fire Axe as weapons, that would be a good feature too.

Now I would love to have all of this stuff above to be in both single player and multiplayer. Also on a side note, i just wanted to say that i love you Rockstar Games, you guys have been providing thousands of great gameplay hours for me. And if you have implied these affects into the game already, then could you maybe have the ALS Engine and the Tiller responding in the background of the next trailer? that would make me "explode" if you know what i am saying.

Below are some pictures of the type's of vehicle and gear i was talking about above. Thank you all for reading this. Please leave a nice comment that has the least amount of cuss words as possible. Thanks! and have a safe day out in this dangerous world.

I agree with the OP fully -- the fact that they took out FireFighter missions in GTA4 is a disgrace.

I too am a volunteer firefighter, and your whole post makes complete sense. Very well said.

Bring back firefighting missions for sure, they were the next best thing to the Vigilante missions! Perhaps they could be started from fire stations, and completion of all the missions unlocks either some turnout gear to wear, or the ability to be completely immune to fire (fireproof).

Cheers!

Very good ideas; only problem is: Will R* actually put the effort to provide everything you listed? Unfortunately I only see tge generic Firetruck coming back sadly. Hopefully the "Job Section" clothing idea gets implemented; I'm a supporter of that as I also roleplay but for police.

Not ncessarily. We were making good progress with IV; R* needs to tinker a bit more.

We had this in IV:

1) Ambulances showing up on scene

2) Paramedics attempting to revive peds

3) Firetrucks reporting to scene

4) Police responding to scene

5) Police looking around for crime/disturbances

6) Police arresting peds misbehaving/running from police

What I did not like:

1) Furetrucks and firemen not putting out fires

2) Police not handcuffing suspects

3) Police not takng suspects to jail (they give em a drive around the block then release them).

I hope they bring back Firefighter side mission as well as Paramedic side mission too

My idea for Firefighter mission is this

You go to a Fire Station and actually go INSIDE

You put on the uniform and go join your firefighter buddies in a kind of mess hall or whatever

Here you "hang out" similar to how in TLAD you can hang out at Lost Clubhouse

After a while there will be a call out and you and your firefighter buddies answer the call, get in the firetruck and make your way to the destination

There is a time limit to get there

Once you arrive you either have to save someone who is trapped, or put out a fire

At first few levels they are basic eg a car is on fire and you must put it out and a simple rescue is climb up some structure of sorts and rescue someone

At later levels there will be much larger fires to extinguish eg a huge warehouse is ablaze and also you have to rescue someone inside as well

Plus you don't just simply sit in the firetruck and spray the water cannon at the target, but you have to actually get out and use the hose, it would work similar to aiming a weapon

i think it would be good fun working as a firefighter biggrin.gif

In between each mission you head back to the station and "hang out" until the next call comes

To complete the firefighter side mission you must complete a whole shift in one sitting biggrin.gif

Whilst hanging out at the fire station there would be a pool table and maybe a pinball machine or something

If you get the call whilst playing pool with a buddy, you simply put down your cue and resume the game once you get back to the station

Did you ever think what they cops say to the law breaking criminal?

That ride around the block is tough, man.

SA was nice on this...

FD showing up AND put out fires

Ambulance shows up and sometimes revives the ped and sometimes not

FD missions, Ambulance missions.

Only police cant do anything but shoot criminals lol. However, there were more random car shootouts.

One thing that really annoyed me in GTA IV was that R* went to all the trouble to make auxiliary (secondary) lighting on the fire appliances and ambos. Especially the ambo; it had grille lights, lights along the side of the vehicle and the back was just packed with them! None of them worked though! Same with the traffic advisor on the police cruisers. Even if they flashed one particular fixed pattern it would have been a nice touch. Why create something that doesn't do anything?

Cheers!

Good read. It's clear you know a lot about this subject. You're not really a nerd at all. If a nerd is a firefighter who knows their job inside out, then I'd hope that we have a lot more of them.

Anyway, the ideas are good as well. I like the idea of wearing firefighter costumes, as well as letting more people go on the fire trucks as well.

Hopefully, they'll look into your ideas when designing the interior of the stations because it would help add more depth and realism to the game.

the fire in Far Cry is awesome. I'd smoked out an entire village with one molotov, and the enemies all ran into a trap i'd made. the noise, the movement, the unpredictablity of it...

One thing i'll say is the outfit you mentioned - shouldn't be available from the start. Rather they should have a mission that unlocks it.

Example: You are to steal a jewel. so you take out a fireman or sneak into a fire station, steal a fireman outfit, then go to the fire and enter the burning building, take the jewel and escape. Then you unlock the outfit and perhaps fireman missions.

Now my biggest complaint of the Vigilante, Fire, Paramedic, Taxi missions.

Time.

When you take a cab for example, you don't say to the driver "floor it get me there in seconds"

Rather you want a safe enjoyable journey. The time limit shouldn't be there (didnt IV get rid of said time limit?)

Vigilante was annoying giving you a limited time to do whatever.

Same with 'medic missions. I never enjoyed them. With medic and fire missions, sure there WOULD be a time limit, but in previous games it was too harsh imho.

I'm a big supporter of giving the player lots to do in the game. Make the game more enjoyable and add rpg elements = win.

but yeah fire engines in IV were useless, pointless and overlooked. I heard a rumour that, if your car's on fire, you can call the fire brigade and they'll put out your car fire.

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

Agree with ur post, would be fun to have in the game and I firmly believe that in GTA V there will be a lot of attention to detail, so they might actually go out of their way to put some real depth into each activity. Hopefully fire fighting is one of them and if not in as much depth as u explained then at least a basic form of it like in previous games.

Hello everyone, thank you all for this amount of support in a short amount of time! I am going to be emailing R* thru the "MouthOff" link they have and give them a link to this, to help them give them an idea for all of this.

Also i wanted to say that for whenever R* releases the next trailer/Release date and it doesnt really indicate any of the cool things i listed here, then that probably means they haven't done some (or any) of the things i have listed here.

And @Mokrie Dela, I loved the fire in Far Cry 2, having it just burn everthing in its path was a great feature. And for the example you gave for the fire mission there is like a whole "Monk" episode about it, but instead of a jewel it was a Mustang symbol. You example is a very good idea too, i could see R* putting in a mission like that (and maybe at the end you drive off in a fire truck).

"Example: You are to steal a jewel. so you take out a fireman or sneak into a fire station, steal a fireman outfit, then go to the fire and enter the burning building, take the jewel and escape. Then you unlock the outfit and perhaps fireman missions."

First of all, thank you for being a firefighter! Not many men are as brave as you and I'm sure your community is proud of you! I agree with all of your ideas. The side missions in SA was my most favourite stuff to do and it was a shame firefighting missions and paramedic missions were not in gta 4. Id love to see them return, especially if you get a uniform- that would be really cool. I love the idea of dressing up as a firefighter and stealing a jewel in a burning building, that is the stuff I like to see in GTA, and i think something like that would be an awesome mission. I myself am more of a police guy. Sorry if it sounds like im not talking directly to you, but I copied and pasted this from one of my previous posts. Hope you enjoy:

I think it's safe to say the GTA game series is on massive virtual game of cops and robbers. Many of us like to go on a shooting spree, and see how long we can last against endless waves of police officers at level 6 wanted level. Some of us like to be on the other end of the law, beating up wrong-doers with baseball bats while role playing as cops. Heck, some of us have friends and clanmates just to chase and shoot at as if it were a big game of cops and robbers. To further enhance our law abiding or defying adventure, I think some of the following features should be added into GTA V to make the game more realistic, and overall more fun...

>NPC's can commit random street crimes such as: beating up a homless man, hijacking a car, robbing a store, stealing womens purses, breaking store windows, muggings, shootouts, drug deals, you name it!

>Police who witness these random street crimes will persue the NPC as if it were a player controlled character by arresting, tase-ing, chasing (on foot and in vehicle), calling for backup, and even shooting if the suspect is volent.

>Police should use equipment such as spike strips/stop sticks, tazers, K-9 units, rubber bullets, batons and helicopters to make your in-game run in with the law more authentic.

>Police should use authentic tactics instead of the classis GTA "Charge in and shoot!" mentality. Do this by (for example) on higher wanted levels, regular police officers create a perimeter around the area you are in, guarding escape routes while NOOSE teams, FIB agents, and sniper teams deal with the situation using a variety of tools and tactics such as using smoke grenades, stun grenades, tear gas, tazers, dogs, shotguns, SMGs, sniper rifles, carbines, flashlights, helicopters to try to neutalize you.

>In persutes police will drive more aware of their surroundings, avoiding pedestrians, lamp posts, telephone poles, fire hydrents, and other cars. Police will use stop sticks to blow out your tiers(like in Vice City), use tactical vehicle contact such as the PIT maneuver, and create roadblocks.

>Have police Use non leathal force when on lower wanted levels, such as: persuing/chasing, tackeling, using batons and tasers, to arrest you. Have police use leathal force on mid-level wanted levels, such as: using dogs to attack you, use of handguns, spike strips and helicopters. And on high wanted level have NOOSE teams repelling from helicopters, and comming out of vans/trucks with heavy equipment such as M4s and shotguns with bodyarmour and tactical grenades.

>Have police randomly "sting" you on side missions such as drug dealing by having undercover cops show up leading to shootouts and chases. (happens randomly, for example: in GTA IV taking cars for Brucie: undercover cops will show up every 10-20 cars to try to stop you from getting the payment for that car)

>Police cars use real life models: patrol cars = Buffalo(charger), Sedan(crown victoria), FIB(undercover cops)=Beurito(windowless van)

NOOSE cruisers= Rancher(or Tahoe) and slicktop Sedans.

>Lights on the police vehicles need to be LED on everything except patrol Sedans(cruiser seen in trailer) and cars should have grille lights, deck lights, rear lights, and headlight/ tail light wig-wags.

>Ability to go "on duty" as a police officer(essensially starting vigalante side-mission mode) at police stations, giving you a police uniform, car, tazer, and the ability to respond to crimes to arrest, or dispach criminals. While in this mode, police will view you as another police officer thus removing the ability to gain wanted levels. These missions will help increase your respect with the police (which will lower costs when arrested) and lose respect with criminals creating a higher chance you will be mugged or jumped on the street.

>Police uniform can be unlocked in multiplayer by playing the "Cops N' Crooks" game mode allowing a greater role play experience.

and for regualar singal player use after completing the most wanted list on the police computer.

>When customizing regular cars in single player in garages or spray n' pays, be able to add deck lights and siren to any vehicle to make other drivers get out of your way.

>Have lights and sirens on seperate controls. Have lights on Square button for PS3 or X button on xBox360 and the sirens on the R3 button along with the horn. This will make police vehicles less annoying to drive.

I agree with everything, I too am going to school right now actually to be a firefighter/paramedic, therefore I've spent alot of time in all the GTA's roleplaying as a FF/P. I realize that GTA is crime game and a shooter but I've always felt there could be huge improvements in the AI, the equipment, and the stations used by emergency personel. There are many areas in the game that don't relate to crime that go into great detail and I always wished the emergency services would be improved.

You have alot of great ideas, and although I high doubt all of them will be included (Unfortunate for all of use firefighting roleplayers) I feel there is a lot that could be done within reason. Just for starters is atleast more than one firetruck! In cities as huge as New York and LA it is kind of rediculous to only have one type of fire truck, an engine. I was so happy when i first saw the ladder truck in SA until i realized you couldn't even use the ladder and there wasn't even a siren. Hopefully Rockstar put some more effort into the Emergency services this time!

  • 1 month later...

Hello all, I was just watching a few videos from other Fire Companys that I know were the view was from a Helmet Camera and one of them really caught my attention was were the FF was working with a Ladder company, which is a very tough job, and that they had to vent the roof during a Structure Fire and they set up the Tower Ladder (aka Ladder truck) and set it up on the roof and that made me think about how, if the ladder truck was added into the game, if maybe if the ladder could be positioned if the truck was stopped and maybe this could be used in a mission.

For Example:

The main character is with one of the other characters and a Drug deal was about to go underway and then somehow the building explodes while the main character and the other character are outside and they needed to get something from the upper floors of the building and they couldn't get up by the inside of this, lets say, 5 story building and you happen to be around the corner from a Volunteer Fire Station were the Truck Bay doors are open and there is a ladder truck. So you and your buddy grab a fire coat, jump in the rig and set up the ladder, climb up, and grab what you need to grab and get out while police and other fire company's are arriving. Now the Police would try to stop you and get your FF ID, so you smack the cop in the face and run off with the other character. Now, say you didn't go up and get the item from the building, then maybe the item could be traced back to your character or someone you know or something.

I think this would be a very cool idea which could incorporate the use a ladder truck into the game, such as how the Ladder truck was used in the final mission of GTA:SA. Now most to all the missions have probably been written and are in production, but if something like this was added in, that would be very nice!

Keep up the great work R*, and I can't wait for the next trailer.

i think that is a really good idea bro. and maybe you could get some cash too. and even bigger fires because in california their are a lot of fires . and maybe a final fire mission would be like a huge forest fire and half of the city practically being on fire.

This will make police vehicles less annoying to drive.

you read my mind with that post. i would love that much realism. but who knows if we will ever get it because it sounds hard to impliment all of that but i think it can be done. that was a great idea and i hope rockstar gets creative and does stuff like this. maybe you could also go to a hospital and do work like this or be an EMT

Yeah, and in VC and III! Don't know why they were removed in IV. I really, really hope Rockstar brings back the Fire, Paramedic and Taxi missions in V and gives them the same 'facelift' so to speak that they gave Vigilante in IV.

Well, as many of you have noticed, a list of vehicles was leaked for GTA V thru Max Payne 3. Now this list may not be complete because some vehicles are still being beta tested and edited. I hope this list is incomplete because in GTA IV there were 107 Cars/Trucks alone, as in not counting Boats, Bikes and Helicopters. Now maybe the list that leaked out was of just the vehicles in the trailer, which would still be missing some. for the case of this thread, and game, i hope this is incomplete because the only emergency vehicles listed are the Police Car and the Enforcer, no ambulance or fire truck or other variations of the police cruiser. Hopefully the next trailer, which should be coming out soon, will show more vehicles that are not on the list to prove some of my points.

Thank you for stopping bye, and have nice day.
