Emhyr
Sometimes simple R.I.P is enough...yes she was a drug addict but she's dead now, show little respect. What for? She doesn't care. She's dead. And her family has more important things to worry about than opinions of people online. I think she was an idiot. All rich and famous people on drugs are idiots. I respect some of them because I love their work, but I don't respect their decisions regarding the use of drugs. I love Jimmy Hendrix for example, but he too was an idiot. As for Whitney, I don't even like her music. Are you feeling better now? Good.

bobgtafan
Chick could sing, then she did drugs, then she couldn't sing, now she's dead. I liked her songs. R.I.P Whitney Houston I wish you could of continued to sing.
Robinski
If anyone else died from the reason she did, noone would give a sh*t, but because she can sing we shall just ignore the fact she was a druggy and praise her... No. People care because they knew of/about her. This was because she could sing very, very well. That talent made lots of people happy and they enjoyed it. It's understandable that when a source of joy is extinguished that people feel sad. I doubt many people are actually ignoring the fact that she was a "druggy", my facebook feed isn't and the news certainly isn't either. But maybe because they aren't condemning her for it it filters out of your view. If someone has a serious addiction problem with, well, anything, they shouldn't be scorned and derided for it but pitied and offered help and sympathy. This thread's just going to go exactly the same way the Amy Winehouse thread did, isn't it?

We don't need to ignore that she was a drug addict, but now when she's dead..what's the point anyway? Insulting a dead person was never really my thing. We should remember the good about her. Typhus
I willl never understand what people saw in this woman. She sang tired, predictable love songs. She had ZERO personality. No charisma, no gimmick to hide what a bland, vapid headcase she really was. Edited February 12, 2012 by Typhus
SilentSeas
I heard about this on the radio this morning while driving, followed by a selection of her songs. Although I've never really been a fan of her music, I do believe that she had the greatest voice out there. R.I.P Whitney

Rhoda
It's bad news, and she did have a great voice, but I can't say I've heard much of her since about 2005. I wasn't even aware she was still making music. Maybe that's me being culturally ignorant, but I don't know. I was in a friend's car earlier and they played a couple of songs as a tribute, followed by Madonna's newest. Hearing her croon "L-U-V Madonna" ruined the sentiment a little, and I can't help but think they got the cards mixed up on that one. One of my friends cynically quipped that she must have a new album due, but I'm putting money on it that a posthumous release isn't far away. Still, sad loss indeed. That's as much as I'll say. I wasn't a massive fan and I didn't know much about her drug addiction other than she toked on the weed a little bit. On another note, let's not turn this thread into some wild debate about who's going to die next, whether you liked her or this-that-and-the-other. You don't come across as edgy - you come across as a knob end.

To be fair to him, Gaga did have a pretty serious coke addiction back in the day. Although I doubt that piece not-exactly-common knowledge factored into MD's statement. SIKKS66
Lol, I asked everyone who mentioned this today to name three of her songs, pretty much every time the response was "'I Will Always Love You', er, erm... hmm." Ironically, that wasn't even a Houston original. Oh well. Another one falls foul of the druggie demon. RIP.

lol232
I wonder why does everyone good die at first ; Tupac Amaru Shakur, Elvis Presley, Amy Winehouse, Michael Jackson, Bonn Scott, Steven Paul Jobs, Whitney Houston... Why does everyone loved had to die? Really, Why? I mean, people with most haters live, Justin Bieber, Lil Wayne, Soulja Boy ; I don't want them to die, though, at least go away, they are terrible, thus they still live, why do sh*ts have to live and gold has to die? Why, just why? R.I.P. Whitney Houston!

d0mm2k8
Well, another drug riddled star bites the dust. I'm not sad and really don't care (never a big fan and I hate that song that was on The Bodyguard) but whatever, stuff like this reminds you that we all die one day. Even the rich and powerful. CheesyJ
It's a shame. I wasn't really a fan, but I can't deny that she was talented and had a great singing voice. It's another case of someone who wasted a lot of their talent.

Maybe it's because people notice the death of the loved ones more than they do of the pricks. I don't know, just a guess. And as for Courtney Love being next in line, as buzbegone said, we can hope. El Dildo
She sang tired, predictable love songs. She had ZERO personality. No charisma, no gimmick to hide what a bland, vapid headcase she really was. her choice of music might have been soppy love ballads and typical pop songs, but you're pretty much dead wrong about everything you said. it's obvious to anyone who lived through the 80's and 90's that you were probably born in the 90's and know nothing about her. Whitney Houston had personality to burn. she was energetic, had a great sense of humor, and was actually smarter than a lot of people gave her credit for. she was extremely charismatic when in front of a camera and/or audience. to describe her as "vapid" demonstrates that you clearly don't know what you're talking about. if you don't like her music, fine. I didn't like most of it personally. it's just not my style. but her talent and incredible singing voice are undeniable... at least to anyone who actually KNOWS something about her and is not just pulling sh*t out of their ass. So, that was her whole gimmick? She was a bubbly, energetic woman with a sense of humor? My, how original. Because from where I'm standing she was just another female singer with no discernable character (Beyond being 'normal') and a paper-thin ego. We've seen dozens like her, people with a semi-decent voice who don't have any individuality whatsoever. That's why this story is already being brushed aside whereas Michael Jackson hogged the headlines for days after his demise. She was neither particularly original or special, sorry.
