I did a couple searches, but couldn't find anything. If this has been done already, please lock.

EDIT: Obviously, people aren't reading the subtopic line.

THIS IS EXCLUDING THE SIDE MISSIONS, COLLECTIBLES, 100%, ETC.

GTA IV was only about 12 hours if you only did the story. My speed run of IV came out to about 9 hours (taxi's and skipping all cutscenes)

If this game takes less than 10 hours to complete I'll be bored of it a month like Saints Row The Third probably.

I want the game to be long. GTA IV's story was of good length, but if R* can create a good living, breathing criminal city, and if we have a good story as well, then I think that this game could have the potential to be even longer, with even more depth as well.

Despite that, I don't want them to make the story too long. There's making it long, and there's making it so long that it ends up dragging on. I'd much rather have quality over quantity.

Also, if the game gives us a lot of side missions and other stuff to keep us occupied outside of the story as well, then I'll be happy with it.

Do you guys even remember reading the interview with Dan Houser back in 2010 (I believe)? If not then I'll link to it, but Houser said directly to the press that the script for GTA V that he co-wrote is around 1000 pages. That should give you a pretty good idea about how long the main story will be. I mean, if you've played any big Rockstar game in the past 5 years, especially GTA, you know that they have a long-standing record of having a very lengthy main story.

Hell, in GTA IV, you received an freaking achievement for beating the main story in under 30 hours.

GTA IV's 30+ hour single player must be matched or exceeded, so to have the 3-5 hours option in your poll is frankly moronic.

Yep at least 30 hours. I usually muck around quite a bit in between missions on my first play through just to get totally lost. Subsequent play throughs are much more structured.

My most recent saves of GTA IV have been 50+ hours long which is more than enough IMO.

The story on its own without doing anything else should be about 25-30 hours and with side missions etc it should be another 20. Though really anything that takes longer than 30 hours is a good length.

Honestly, hopefully well over 100 hours. Would be excellent.

I may be asking for too much though.

To get the Liberty City Minute achievement, mustn't one complete the storyline missions within 30 hours?

And to do that you have to take as many shortcuts as possible such as taking taxis and skipping the journeys and all sorts of other time saving tricks?

That being the case one could argue that when playing normally (i.e. not rushing and driving about yourself), but still excluding all the side missions and stuff, you'll still end up taking 40-50 hours or so?

So for me, to fulfill it's "ambitious" description, GTA:V needs to have a storyline component in excess of 60 hours.

I don't THINK Rockstar would do this, but a depressing possibility would be shortening the story due to feedback that only a small percentage of players actually finished GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption. GTA IV was the first GTA plugged into the Social Club and Rockstar has very accurate data of what people do and don't do. GTA V will actually be the first game started from scratch since having that data.

What if the length of previous GTAs was motivated by false hope that more people would finish, and now that motivation is depressed by cold hard data? True, a small percentage of a massive selling title's players is still a lot of people, so hopefully Rockstar thinks it's worthwhile to keep satisfying the devotees who buy everything and want to be able to get 50-100 hours or more out of single-player.

EDIT: The Social Club "Story Gang" (people who completed the story) has 264,471 players, which would be 1.2% of 22 million copies sold. The 100% club (people who got 100%) lists 114,572 members. Now, these numbers could indicate low Social Club connect rates, but we can compare them to other numbers in Social Club. For example, the Millionaire's Club (tracking total in-game money earned) has 480,362 members. That means nearly half a million Social Club members played enough GTA IV to get over a million dollars... but the number of Social Club members who finished the story is only 55% of the number who played enough to get $1 million!!!!

As long as possible, provided they don't include repetitive missions/tasks. I'd rather have a short(er) storyline than a long series of mission rehashes.

I'd like over 100 missions, but the issue with that is the possibility of the story dragging out. The good thing however, is that if the multiple character rumor is true, then we could easily get up to a total of 200 missions. I'd like the story missions to last at least 50 hours. I just think disc space is going to be an issue for many aspects of the overall game. They're already dedicating a great deal of memory to just the map, which Dan said was "very big", then the music, the cutscenes, NPC's, car models, side missions and so much other sh*t. I just hope they can fit all of that in and make the game last a long time.
