Jeeebuuus
Kinda like the Killer and Hard Boiled being the inspiration for Max Payne? Because their are many unknown gems over the years that the mainstream never acknowledged and they happen to work for originality and artistry. SGT. Johnson
Under rated like this song. Classic underground gangsta sh*t! Gangsta rap was introduced by big corporations to act as way for African Americans to degrade themselves in front of the public. It is toady's Minstrel Show and the performers are not "darkies" but rappers.

Why the f*ck do you gotta be on top of everyone that doesn't please you maybe this thread was not meant for you reject Sorry, you're right this is a crucial topic too advanced for me to understand...there is a genuine need to know why R* is so obsessed with underrated stuff instead of GTAV related topics on the GTA5 Forum. It's truly interesting sorry. "shut up, sit down, relax"

kesta195
I sort of see where you're coming from, in terms of the soundtrack. Sometimes I wish they would stop trying to be original and give us playlists full of mainstream tracks instead of songs we've never heard by bands we've never heard of. My friends and I have made the same comparison, but for minstrel shows and modern gangsta rap.... It is truly amusing for many people including myself when watching Tyga and BrickSquad Rappers on BET for comic relief. *Jasper Dolphin in OFWGKTA is an example of the blatant act of ignorance for entertainment as he is like the group's "hoodrat" mascot. They are actually intelligent enough to realise that it is satire. "shut up, sit down, relax"

SmoothGetaway
It sounds like your definition of "underrated" means something you haven't heard of. Which doesn't necessarily make something bad, it just means you haven't heard of it. I was beyond sick of "Flashing Lights" BEFORE I popped the GTA4 disk in for the first time, so having only commercially popular things/referenced in their games would be much much worse than exposing us to unknown things. saintsrow
When I saw the title of the OP, I thought it was going to be about if/why Rockstar is obsessed with re-creating the art of cinema in the video game format. I suggest that, in all the recent games (GTA IV, LA Noire, RDR and soon Max Payne 3), Rockstar has continued to push toward the ultimate holy grail of converging and immersing us in a movie. Evidence of this includes: (1) trying to make the gameplay have a cinematic feel (RDR and LA Noire for example, and stated explicitly in the Max Payne 3 technology trailer as a goal), (2) working really hard (maybe too hard) to make their cutscenes as shining examples of high fidelity machinima, and (3) giving us protagonists that are damaged from the outset, as a (cheap) mechanism for added drama, including downbeat ironic endings. While I think that convergence of video games with cinema experience (which probably will happen in next gen consoles and PCs) is a worthy and grand goal that Rockstar is on the leading edge to pursue, I don't think that all of their products should go this way. Specifically, I think Rockstar should leave a lot of the cinema worship to Max Payne 3 and other games designed for that mode, and keep GTA V (and VI) as open fun sandbox games rather than trying to emulate cinema. For example, I don't want a damaged protagonist -- I want to identify with someone on their way up, someone who is in control or who will be, by the end of the game. Not just GTA, but all companies try to instill a cinematic feel to their games in one way or another. the ultimate goal of a video game is to combine cinema and gaming together to a point where the player feels as though they are indeed a part of the movie, but due to limitations, the closest video games can get to this is to allow us to "play out" the game until the next cutscene.
