Small Revelations

trip

Recommended Posts

I'm not big on starting topics, but I just had a small revelation that I wanted to share and I realized there isn't really a thread for such things.

Hey, maybe we can even learn a thing or two from what others have discovered.

I'm talking simple stupid things. You know...some of those things you are semi-embarrassed to admit you discovered because it seems like something people would already know.

So here is mine. I was just using the full client for google earth for something I needed. I had no idea there was a built in flight simulator. Holy sh*t. I was like that is too cool.

Umm...what? Where the hell do I find this?

OT: The only thing I can think of is pancakes. For years I worked as a chef yet I didn't know the recipe for pancakes. I know to some it's incredibly stupid but I'd never made them before and never had the need to so it never occurred to me. I know now though so it's all good biggrin.gif

Ok I'm not sure if this works with every brand, but I'm pretty sure it works with Samsung. My sister's TV, my TV and the downstairs TV's are all Samsung (Don't ask why) and the remote control for one TV works on all the other TV's. So I can use my remote for my TV and mute the downstairs TV.

With great power comes great responsiblity.

Turns out I'm not a very responsible person.

Those spoilers made me laugh a fair bit, man. Here cookie.gif

Weed makes even the most mundane realizations seem amazing.

That's why Universal Remotes work on 99% of the electronics.

I've even had 'Basic' VCRs or TVs that didn't mention special features and by using a different model's remote that had the special feature buttons I could access them.

Like PiP, Speeds, etc.

Ctrl+Shift+T re-opens the last tab you closed.

I don't know when I found that out, it was ages ago, but since then it's been a daily life saver.

Doesn't your browser have a recently closed tabs thing? I use Opera and I often use it to watch porn I've closed since but wish to view again, or to check the list of said tabs don't look like a serial killer's shopping list if they were to idly browse my laptop as I go to piss.

I don't really have many revelations. I know that arguing in the V section is a sign of small and insignificant genitalia, however.

Indeed. I used that menu option once on FF and it had the hotkeys right there. Haven't looked back.

Hah, I discovered this two years ago. Been playing pranks on my family ever since. "Why the hell is my TV on mute" is the reaction I always get. I got the remote, I got the power!

I had some wireless headphones in the past and I could hear what the neighbors were hearing. ph34r.gif

Well, the neighbors wife I could also hear without any headphones at night time.

A few weeks ago I realized that you can use a can opener to take the tops off of soda cans, I've been using them as small trash cans, and change jars.

I've also recently found the help guide that GIMP provides on their website, and have started being able to actually use it!

In FireFox I used to right click links and select, Open Link in New Tab instead of pressing in on the MMB. It was until FireFox updated to version 4 which is when they switched the options, Open Link in New Window and Open Link in New Tab around which resulted in me constantly opening windows instead of tabs, so I opted for the MMB option. I have no idea why they did it, maybe they were just trying to get people like me to use the MMB?

I use the middle button all the time. I sometimes refer to the right-click method but I love the middle button. It also opens and closes tabs which is pretty useful.

Yeah I use it all the time now thanks to the update. It closes tabs too? Well there's another thing I can add to this topic.

I just found out how to increase the number of Undo's possible in 3ds Max... and this was AFTER the point of no return. Oh well, at least I'll have it in the future. sleepy.gif

Did you know the combination to the ancient, animal coded doors in Skyrim is hidden on the claws? I didn't until eleven minutes ago. Blew my mind.

IT WAS IN A GODDAMN PRE-RELEASE DEVELOPER WALKTHROUGH R U CRAZY?

Since we're all talking about browsers, I found that holding Ctrl and clicking tabs in Chrome let you select them all and then move them in unison if you wanted to open them in a separate window.

Finding the Character Map has been infinitely useful in typing foreign languages, but MS Word's shortcuts like Ctrl + ' + o will produce ó.

Any magic tricks I've learned have always solicited a "ohh, that's how you do it" kind of feeling.

I did a topic for Tips and Tricks in the Tech section, the intent is a bit the same, anything you think is not so obvious, but could be helpful for others, not assuming anyone in particular, helpful hints are welcome as I see it.

I wonder, should I even mention, Anyone getting counseling ?

seeing a professional for any issues? I did with help about job seeking, sometimes that's a revelation, since I do have to deal with something of a learning disability (Aspbergers)

Does that qualify as your Small Revelation, or simply a sage observation? smile.gif

I suppose mine would be when one day it occurred to me, "If it can be built, it can be un-built".

Turns out this is of the same fundamental order of Newtonian laws, indeed it applies to everything from bank vaults to encryption to protons.

Properly leveraged, you can achieve a certain Nirvana, where you should never need nor want.

However, this does not take into account the legal ramifications of un-building certain things. Consult a lawyer before hacking at designed systems.

I actually kind of discovered this some time ago, but my favorite band (808 State) started following me on Twitter. It's an account that I use with my YouTube channel to promote artists and I barely use it but it is kind of cool nonetheless.

Double spacing in MS Word, I thought it was pressing the space bar twice. blush.gif

When I was learning typing I thought the same thing. Then it was explained that double spacing (really a line feed) was for editing purposes, and on teletype machines to allow time for the carriage to return.

Triple Penetration

When I first heard about such thing as OCD (I've never met anybody with an OCD) and I thought it was darn cool. So I self-inflicted an OCD to me. I wanted to be addicted to hygiene for no reason, and it seems I have grown fond of washing hands each 30 minutes or just a bit less.

Last week we had a lesson about safe sex in college, and we got to hygiene discussion. Everybody looked at me and I was pretty puzzled. Then the tutor told to somebody from the other end of class to speak up.

I went home, realizing, that I am probably the only human in the world who washes hands before touching own penis.
