do you want a big dlc or several small ones?

i'm a traditionalist,no dlc, not even a patch. Why? because you (the team) MUST create a FULL game, and if it sucks it's your fault.

Why against DLC? because they cut stuffs from the game only to sell it later...R* was a bit better than other software houses, BUT GTA IV is still incomplete, and if i want to know the proper end of the story (the diamond, brucie, bulgarin) i MUST buy the dlc.

why against patch? because they don't test the game like before because "we will correct this later", and sometimes the games are horrible (like g wwe '12). Plus, sometimes patches are used to correct that small "good bugs"that everyone here loves: for example, imagine if they correct the bug that allow you to enter in the ganton gym's roof... SA would never be the same sad.gif

GTA III era games didn't have DLC's and was great with out them.

Neither did about 99.9% of the games back in the PS2/Xbox era. Welcome to a little thing called online gaming. I'm sure if it was as big back then as it it now I have no doubt the GTA III era would've had it too.

Tipper is right. It's all about making it feel unique. Now if the content from EFLC was available across all 3 games it wouldn't feel right. Not to mention some features just don't fit. Could you imagine Niko or Johnny partaking in club management, or Johnny parachuting?

It's not as if R* charged $10 just for a parachute. Honestly most DLC is half assed, but EFLC IMO represented great value for money. We basically got two new games with play value equal to some full fledged games.

I'd prefer expansion packs to DLC, always have always will.

The current generation of gaming is/getting pathetic, sh*tty DLC packs and online passes cutting or locking content so the publishers can try and squeeze more cash out of you. Also there's Kingdoms of Amalur's online pass for single player content angry.gif

If they do anything like RDR's little DLC's, I'll either wait for a disc containing all of them, or just not bother.

Surely but look at recent R* games after GTA4. I fear GTA5 may use similar scheme. sad.gif

LA Noire - despite what R* says, I think those 5 DLC cases really were cut from the game. If you've played PC version or console Complete Edition you may notice how well those cases fit into the storyline.

MCLA - South Central for $10 was OK DLC but then R* released 7 cars as small vehicle packs.

RDR - I've lost count how many DLCs are for this game. But for sure wouldn't want this variety into GTA.

MP3 - Again we have these pre-order and other DLCs announced before the game. Good thing so far - they're only for MP.

Thankfully R* release complete editions for everyone at least.

If it is a dlc that adds a new area in Cali, I would really like it. Just like they did with MCLA by adding South Central.

Oh, I sure do hope simple features like guns and parachutes are removed from the main game and sold back to us in DLC form that you have to wait over a year for! Otherwise it just wouldnt make sense. Could you ever see Niko using a parachute? No way, twouldnt be realistic, after all. No sir. Luis Lopez using a parachute, now THATS realism! Oh, that big scar? Thats from the lobotomy! I LOVE DLC ever since my operation!

Team Bondi dropped alload of cases from the main game because it would have ended up on 2 blu-ray disks and they didnt want to waste money on 2 blu-ray disks so I guess Rockstar revived some of the cases for DLC.

I hope we get something like the cases for GTA V but so that its done in a way where it doesnt feel like its been cut from the game, more an extention to the game. I doubt R* are going to waste time on making massive DLC's again for GTA because of how much of a flop they ended up being in comparisson to IV even though they were good enough to be a whole GTA game in themselves (they had more missions in each of them than Saints Row TT had in the entire full game).

Examples of bad DLC by other companies:

Selling MP maps

Selling MP characters

Selling MP weapons

Ripping chapters out of the main game to sell to you later as DLC, so that you never get the full experience on your first play-through

They need to make DLC because they need to persuade us to hang on to the original game, and not sell it to the used market - fewer copies in the Used section means more original sales for them. So we are we doing them a favour AND paying them more money? It's nothing but a price hike by stealth.

By contrast, Rockstar's Episodes were the perfect DLC. Both episodes together easily constituted another game's worth of material, and in fact each one was longer than many AAA SP campaigns. They gave us new protagonists, new radio, even an improved engine. They forced us to become familiar with the whole map, making the best use of all that development of the city. I could still go back to IV now and play the trilogy back to back and not get bored.

On top of all of the other good points about EFLC, you didn't even need the original game to play it. It's so refreshing that there was no con trick about it, nothing dirty that spoils the purchase. I hope they continue that model for V.

Well said !!

I agree with others on this thread that the GTA IV EFLC was a good strategy for R* and a relatively good value for the players. I actually wish they would keep adding stories of this scale or bigger to GTA IV, to keep us sane until GTA V arrives.

I got and still get a lot of replay value from TBOGT due to the better weapons and also from the more upbeat attitude of the story. Actaully TLAD was not so hot IMO, but i think it is a good example of an earnest attempt to add new DLC, not simply incremental content, in the context of EFLC overall.

Maybe the price for big DLC could be just a bit lower, however, since they are just writing new scripts and adding a few new weapons, interiors or functions. The huge effort to creat the game map was mosty already done.

Source? Considering a BD holds up to 50 gigs, I find this very doubtful. Greed is almost always the reason behind DLC.

I don't want any DLCs. Include everything in the beginning. What kind of idiot would like to pay more for less?

maybe they get idea for a dlc later on?

if the dlc is wourth the money then i would have no issues paying for it eflc was wourth every penny tlad was bad though (sorry to the people liking tlad) but i didn't like the setting or atmosphere made liberty city even more depressing then iv

but tbogt was a breath of fresh air with alot of things resembling vice city new music (which btw was great) new vehicles new weapons and a brand new story new characters wourth every penny

i cannot call eflc a dlc because to me it was an entirely new game

like mw2 and mw3 but mw3 was told to be an entirely new game

if they come up with new ideas with a new story new content for gta 5 and it has that kind of value then i would without any doubt pay for it rockstar games in my opinion deserves the money they are not blood suckers they care about their fans

maybe abit too fanboyism but yes if they want to release something like they did with eflc then no doubt i would buy it

but if they decided to release 10 cars for 5 euro then i would probably lose alot of respect for them as cars is something modding can replace therefor pointless to me and a quick way for them to make extra money which means i would lose respect in them

but eflc was probably the only "DLC" wourth every penny it could be seen as an entirely new game no ugly strings attached new music new story new setting new city interiors much more optimized it is in my opinion not a dlc but a almost full game for less then half the price it just shows that they value their customers

dlcs for example for arkham city are pointless and bloodsucking ones they are selling individual suits that to me is sucking the money out of customers

people saying dlcs are things cut out from the game to me they are wrong maybe they didn't have the ideas for a prachute or apc when gta 4 was made and they didn't intentionally cut it out to make money later on maybe they didn't think about adding a parachute but they saw people wanted it plus a tank so they listend and made eflc dosn't mean they cut it out intentionally

No dlc's at all. Just if they're worth it...

I think it's certain that some sort of DLC will be released, whether it's big or small. R* would be crazy not to try and get some extra profit from DLC's.

In an ideal world R* would be able to just spend an extra year working on the game itself rather than having to spend an extra year expanding upon the 'core' game via the current model of post-release downloadable 'episodic content'.

But budget-time and hardware constraints are what they are. Still GTA V will be obviously undoubtedly be a much much more rounded 'fully-fledged' gta-experience than GTA IV was [ancient hardware aside] because all the assets, engine, coding etc were readymade from the start which lends itself to an experience like GTA:SA.

However the hardware limitations are too great for a map x2-3 the size of GTA IV and I'm fairly certain we won't see map-based dlc for GTA V for that very reason. However; I agree with many of the suggestions about how rockstar could improve their post-release downloadable content model for GTA V and how it could be perfected to turn a GTA IV into a GTA: SA.

1) No micro-transactions: it's pointless and it's beneath them. Waste of time and money better spent for all parties. IMO they are better off giving away micro-dlc as multiplayer bonuses to extend it's chart stay on XBL and subsequently it's chart stay on retail store-shelves [where it counts]. Can be bundled with GOTY edition(s)/Season Pass.

2) No more 'episodic' content. Only build onto the core game... just keep adding to the existing city, story, characters, protagonist, features, activities, missions, etc. That's how you turn a GTA IV into a GTA: SA. That way the Complete edition you sell a year down the line will be f*cking must have masterpiece.

3) Better use of the 2GB download limit. Don't add to the soundtrack until the disc-based compilation. That way we will have much more content AND a bigger soundtrack.

Because you're paying more for more. If the GTA DLC hadn't been released, then its extra features wouldn't have appeared until V.

Were TBoGT and TLAD big dlc or small? The stories were pretty short, but I think what you mean by small dlc is cars and guns. Anyway, if someone had a gun up to my head, and made me choose one of the two, It would for sure be big. Something to get my money's worth. colgate.gif

The stories were quite long for what they were. With some DLC you'd be lucky to get an hour or two of extra game play.

I finished TLAD in about 10 hours and TBOGT in about 15 hours. Put it like this IMO they're longer than the average FPS.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have a funny feeling that if Rockstar makes an 'Episodes from Los Santos/San Andreas' and have 2 additional stories that tie in with the main story from V, all the 'Zee's' of the world would come out of the woodwork to bad mouth Rockstar and say they're "Lazy" and "Can't come up with original ideas anymore"

If they come out with smaller packs like Red Dead Redemption did, then people will complain that they "Cut out the good stuff to sell later"

Even if those packs come out 1+ year from the Vanilla release.

Personally I would prefer IV-style DLC over RDR DLC, but I think Rockstar is in a Lose-Lose situation when it comes to this subject. People are going to complain either way. They'll b*tch and moan, boycott the DLC, whatever they can do to aid their 'Butt-hurt'
