lpgunit
IDK, but I've been reading some stuff recently about Sims modders releasing their stuff for a fee, and the moral/ethical issues surrounding it. While they did argue that they need to charge for content so that they can recoup the bandwidth costs, some say that doing so is an EULA violation, and my point against it was, how come the other modding communities such as this site still survive even if we release practically all of our stuff and tools for free? Sure, tools like Zmodeler, 3DS Max and web hosting aren't small potatoes for us, but as far as I'm concerned I don't believe in their rationale for paid downloads, as there's a better opportunity for them to make money, and like what I've said above. freak2121
I don't know about GTAForums but most sites with free content survive off ad revenue, donations, the host's paycheck or a mix of all three. Pretty sure selling mods is illegal, though.
darthYENIK
They've been charging for Sims mods for over a decade. EA doesn't seem to care, as long as you're not selling mods that give you things that are featured in expansion packs and add-ons.

Yeah I understand that but to me it seems pointless considering what I said earlier.
Remix
I assume it's entirely up to the person creating the mod. If the developer has spent months creating something based on the fact the community wants it/has asked for it, selling it for a few dollars really isn't too much to ask. Fireman
In 1998 some Dutch modders released an "unofficial expansions pack" for Carmageddon on a CD which actually was in stores (AFAIK). I think they can do whatever they want, if you put a lot of effort into something and you want to get paid for it, sure why not? For me people actually downloading my mods if enough to keep me happy, apparently they need some more motivation to keep modding. Either way their content will end up for free on a site somewhere. DeeperRed
While I don't agree with selling mods, there is nothing wrong with a donation button. The majority of the time if I use a free product a lot I make a donation. Modding is all about being a part of a community where you give and take, obviously some just take because they don't have the know how. I used to be a prominent figure in the modding scene for The Movies game, some of my items had 10,000+ downloads on them but I never once felt the need to charge for it. lpgunit
acmilano
Well i did saw few pirate shops in my city selling GTA Snow on DVD and they sell a lot of it,also GTA Serbia and GTA Bosnia patch you can buy on any corner. In this case even modders become victims of piracy. cidamelo
Well, it's illegal to sell MODs... even though EA Games doesn't seem to care about the The Sims MODs, I'd rather visit the site "PAY SITES MUST BE DESTROYED" instead of paying them!! acmilano
This would sound funny, but in one videostore i saw 'Trashmaster' for a rent like a regular movie,on DVD.
Fireman
Look, we pay for DLC's that give us maybe 2-3 hours gameplay. If I get a mod that gives me 50+ hours gameplay and they want me to pay (or donate) €2,00 for it, then I'd much rather do that than buy €15,- for 3 hours gameplay. To be fair though, I'd rather have DLC and mods for free.
lpgunit
I'd pay for it if it's worth the ten bucks, but in most cases like mods that I can legally get for free, no.
