Mr.Moffat
Now I would ask that people actually read this post before posting because I would like proper arguement and a general idea of peoples reasons and not just Vice city is the best. Now there have multiple threads about future gta locations and Vice city seems to be really demanded to return and get a high def treatment ala IV's Liberty city. But I've noticed alot of people's reason for wanting to go back was because they loved the original VC so much. Now gta VC is my personal faveourite game and holds a special place in my heart, but it's map is not my faverourite map in the seires. Now yes a remake would rectify that problem of course but what im trying to argue here is that it was'nt just the map that made VC so special, it was the nostalga/soundtrack/ pop culture references/ parodies of 80's films and tv shows and finally it was one of the first games that truly brought a bygone area back to life. So I get a bit worried when people say they want a new vice city because the old one was brill, but if they remade VC it would'nt be the same would it? sure the actual map would prob be fantastic but if it was set in the 80's again it would'nt have the same impact as the original had plus vcs brought us back a second time and even then it did'nt have the same feeling as VC. The majority of the best songs have been covered with the 2 vc games bar a few (although I would have no prob with them being reused in a new VC) and also I've seen strong demands for a modern day VC, but would'nt that be even further from what made the original so good? I AM NOT against having a new vice city itself, but i just feel some people want to go back due to the nostalga of their time with the origianl which I think can never be recaptured truly if you played the old VC. Now of course if you just like miami itself, then cool no probs. (God I did'nt realise how trickey this would be to put into words it seems a bit messy and unfocsed, I have it worked out perfectly in my head though lol)
thatstupidbug
good point! Everyone here is a bit nostalgic, and i think a new vice city will not be able to fillfull our expectation. But apart from "nostalga/soundtrack/ pop culture references/ parodies of 80's films and tv show", even the map was great: sure, it was flat and small, but some places, some landmarks are also a vital part of the game... the Ocean view hotel, the Hyman stadium, Phil's place, cherry popper, Malibù, Robina's cafè... without them , vice city is not the same anymore. I mean III's LC city and IV's LC are nothing alike cept maybe the odd sections of the map are kinda similar alright, but thats because both versions would have been based of an actual place in nyc hence the similarity. I always used to kill everyone in sight. But anyway I think the idea of VC/Miami is incredible. The thing I would be worried about is that it wouldn't suit today's standards pf being a Gangster. VC needs to be a Late 80's early 90's.
SilentSeas
To be honest, the reason why I wanted VC to be remade was largely down to the fact that the III era's rendition just didn't feel like Miami to me. Sure the eighties nostalgia covered that problem up, but take that away and all you're left with is what to me feels like a slightly sunnier LC. Another issue that I had with the setting was the climate. Whenever I go back and play VC, despite the sun, it still feels slightly cold rather than tropical. If R* ever do go back to VC, I want them to focus on depicting Miami for what it is, not the not the nostalgia.
spaceeinstein
If R* ever do go back to VC, I want them to focus on depicting Miami for what it is, not the not the nostalgia. This. R* completely remade LC and look how successful that was. There was also a huge demand for the return of SA, but instead of SA 2.0, R* remade LS completely. If VC were to return, R* wouldn't make VC 2.0, they would make something like GTA 6, completely remade, fresh, and fit for modern times. Players who merely want nostalgia are living in the past and not accepting the future. Look how divided people were when GTA IV was first released. R* isn't in the business to please everyone; they are in the business to create an awesome game. Edited February 12, 2012 by spaceeinstein

For this reason, GTA IV's Liberty city has lost something: it is closer to NY, but it feels empty and gray like an ordinary city.

DaWiesel
When I look to the skyline of Liberty City (III), I think: "nice". When I look to the skyline of Liberty City (IV), I think: "awesome". Don't be a prisoner of nostalgia.
Mr.Moffat
glad to see people understand my point, as i said im all for seeing a new Vice city, I just can see people who are blinded by nostalga would end up saying the first game was miles better, even if R* redid the 80's it would'nt be the same. The same arguement can be made for people wanting to go back to SA (granted SA had the best map in terms of variety and space so thats a valid reason to want to return) but again I fear people will associate a new gta with rendition of SA with the old one and expect a return of everything that the old SA had e,g jet pack/ cj / grove street etc, the prob is that they prob would'nt and people would again end up complaining and say this is'nt the true SA
Algonquin Assassin
I generally think VC in VCS had a warmer vibe to it, but VC felt more like the way Miami was depicted in Scarface which is what I prefer as it felt more genuine. VCS has always felt a bit exaggerated to me. Now would I like VC much closer to the real Miami? Yep, but only modern day. The 80s as depicted in VC can't be made better IMO. So I'd like a modern VC as I can't see any other time period working as good.
