ChrissDaMan
Like many other people on this forum i gonna start write "sorry if this have been mentioned already" and sorry for make this topic so late after the first trailer, but i gonna shoot for it anyway. I was thinking about public transport, i did not see any type of public transport Such as: -Bus -Taxi -Subway -Trains -Tram -Planes So i had some ideas hope you like them. To start with the busses, if you remember there have been busses in every GTA so far but we have never been able to been driven in them and in GTA IV (TLAD, TBoGT) the busses was more detail then everlike, u could actuarly se true the glass. In GTA Vice City we could pick up people and got payed $5 I THINK and i loved to do that. It would be nice be nice also if we where able to travel in them to, like in the the Subway trains in GTA III, LCS and IV, but with out have to Click instead just walk on the bus and pay $5 .And when you're on the bus you should be able to walk around like usual maybe pull out a gun and force the bus-driver to drive while being chased by the cops and point on the map ( just like in GTA IV when going in the TAXI)and the bus-driver drive you there. and you can just go to the rear window (or maybe to the doors, or any other woindow) and start shoot at the cops ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TAXI , i think it should be the same like in GTA IV, but still you can force him/her with a gun or knife do keep driveing. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subway Just like with the busses you should be able to walk around like usual, instead being seen in the subway-trains security-camera. and ofcourse force the train-driver to keep driving. walk from one car to another (true the doors in every end) and it would be awesome if you could take the control of the train. the train should also be able to derail like in GTA San Andreas. maybe even take like a bazoka shoot the train and then its damaged and maybe rumble over. You shoul be able to un hook the train-cars maybe just be going with one train-car. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Trains I think tha ordinary train shoul be the same deal like the subway. you should be able to travel in them from Los Santos to Las Venturas to San Fierro if those citys gonna be in the game and when you travel in the if there is like beds in the train-cars and rooms, then you can save the game on the car when there is a rail-switch comming you can turn in to the other track. still you can unhook the cars from the locomotive and its faster the lest car you have on it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Tram Just like with Subway, still be able to control them to. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Plane we should travel from city to city with the planes. even highjack the plane and force the pilot to go where ever you want. still be able to take the control the plane, throw out people from the plane. This is my ideas for now, if you dont lock it i will come up with more pease Edited February 7, 2012 by Chris CJ Jakobsson
grope_4_that_date
Public transportation costs a lot of money (even with Federal funding). I don't think Rockstar has enough money to cover the operating and capital costs for the city, unless they raised public tax dollars in Los Santos. In Liberty City (GTA4), there was public transit, but Rockstar probably lost a lot of money because players never really used it. Plus, there was no price on gas, in fact I don't even think it existed! So why waste Los Santos's budget on public transit when everyone is driving cars? They should spend their money elsewhere, like improving the entertainment district and recreational areas.

TheD94
^And it has a Tram too, what is a very new info to me...^ You can already see a train cable in trailer, so there is going to be the Tram and/or regular train.

Spaghetti Cat
I've never known this, but does LA have a Subway? Yeah, it does. Probably not as big as the New York (err, Liberty City) system, but subways are there. Here's a map: I'd hope that they return in LS! SmoothGetaway
Nah. The automobile is king out here in SoCal and while I can easily see why a Swede or any European would ask this question its just not how things go out here. This is all coming from someone who probably used the Subway in LC a LOT more than an average player, but I also enjoy playing on foot so it makes sense to me to do it that way. The only way I was able to get to and from the airport was using the subway. In general I found it pretty well clean and nicely maintained. Although I can only compare it to Chicago's L-train, never been to NY. And all of this in the land of the automobile. No Image Available

Carbine23
I think the subway map in GTA4 was creative but poorly executed as much of the lines didn't make any sense. Like if you wanted to go to southern Algonquin from Huntington Station, you needed to transfer to a train going through Broker into Algonquin. It should've just gone to Easton Station (Grand Central) and you could've transferred through there. But other than that i don't think L.A.'s metro system is as complex which is good. But i do wanna be able to move around on the trains. Kind of like the end of the movie Collateral?

But had to turn it in the last day I was there, and my friend was working that day as well. I was going to L.A.X. and was able to take the train from the station near the Chinese Theater to right near the airport, and took the bus the rest of the way. I was kinda intimidated at first because I had all my bags and stuff with me. The people were nice enough, and even though it was crowded at some spots, and I had some of my bags on the empty seat next to me, the folks there pretty much let me be. and agree with the poster above ^^ No Image Available
SmoothGetaway
Right on. Yeah people in LA don't take sh*t from anyone much like NYC, but ask them (a Californian) for the time or a smoke and you'll probably be fine. Thats a capital offense in NYC I'll say this about public trans and GTA. It's quite an advantage for those of us players that utilize it versus those who just drive themselves everywhere. Patrizio
As has been said above, Los Angeles does have a mass transit system. All of those lines are subway/light rail. Probably most famously seen in the film Collateral. I for one really, really hope Rockstar includes at least a simple Subway system. It brings the city alive and adds a further dimension - especially as they are now able to allow the player and npcs to move around the car/carriages themselves (as seen in Red Dead Redemption). This was something missed in IV and I hope Rockstar addresses this in V. In terms of the Bus service - I cannot find a link, but Rockstar most definitley planned to have some form of ridable Bus system in IV's Liberty - notice the busstops all over town as well the depot in Broker. For whatever reason they removed the feature - in fact, as far as I am aware, the buses to not drive around Liberty at all. Again, I hope Rockstar introduces this in V - it brings a further dimension to the game and helps develop the 'Living, Breathing, City' that they always want. marrecar
Well, buses and taxis are sure in... Most probably big planes like that one... But trains, trams and subways are most like not to be inside... But, there were three scenes in the trailer where you could see power lines, for at least two of these track transports... Check out my signature and you will see it...
Chillzz01
Would be pretty cool to take a bus ride or fly in a plane. The cabs in GTA 4 saved me a lot of time driving to places. Hope that's back in GTA V.
Mokrie Dela
public transport does need an improvement imo. Busses - WHY NOT!? The subway network also needs expanding - i want it to be comlex - multiple lines, transfers to get from A to B - traveling across london will often require one or two transfers. Me for example - I'd get the train into london then change to the underground, take a train to one station, change for a DIFFERENT line (central and circle lines for example) and that that to my destination. IVs subway was too simple imo. Where's the lines that go EAST/WEST? or between Bohan and Dukes/Broker? As the map posted earlier you can see LA's network is quite expansive and complicated at least in comparison to IV Busses should be the same too. Busses have numbers and specific routes. In this day and age, you can go on the net and find out what trains/buses you need to go to your destination - the phone in V could offer such aid. Taxi's need no real change though. Apart from the driver getting "stuck" from time to time. Trams - they'd be cool if LA has them, i'm not sure. But in GTA the focus will always be on driving. doesn't mean MT can't be improved though The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing. senor_huevos_benedicto
I read somewhere that there was initially going to be the ability to use the bus in IV. But yeah, buses and a more complex subway system are needed. If there are trams in the game please let us use them instead of getting hit by them in San Fierro. Korpi
Well, the Brown Streak train will most definitely make a return and besides the taxis, would be nice if you could be able to take a bus ride in V.
Isuck100%
I believe the busses were removed from regular NPC traffic in GTA IV because they are too long for the A.I. drivers to properly take turns with. They'd be knocking down traffic poles at every intersection. If the streets are wider in GTA V, maybe there will be actual, working bus routes. It reminds me of the case in L.A. Noire where you need to question a bus driver, and to find him you must drive along the designated bus route until you run into the bus. Outside that mission though, busses did not actually follow a route as far as I'm aware. I hope they go all out in GTA V with public transportation. I loved how detailed the subway system was in GTA IV - it added a bit of depth to the city. But I've roleplayed as a bus driver in pretty much every GTA title since Vice City, so I'm certainly hoping for a real, working bus system.
