how much fps will increase in a quad core ?

i currently have intel core 2 duo E2180 @ 2.00 GHz and sapphire radeon HD 5670 1GB GDDR5, 3GB DDR2 RAM. but, soon i will be changing my processor to amd phenom II X4 840 or athlon II X4 640.gta 4 lags like hell in my pc. here is the benchmark log with my current system

CPU Usage: 85%

System memory usage: 67%

Video memory usage: 55%

Shadow Quality: Off

Night Shadows: Off

View Distance: 10

Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise


Video Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 5670

the question is if i change my processor to the above mentioned processor will i get a fps boost like 40 fps on above settings ?

Although this game is quite CPU dependent, that's not the only governing factor when it comes to getting better fps. Your video card is pretty average. If you get a faster processor, your slower video card might just end up bottlenecking the CPU and, thus, not really give you any fps boost as you'd expect. The DDR2 RAM isn't helping either.


Unless you're looking to upgrade your whole system, I wouldn't recommend wasting your money on a better processor right now.


Edit: Oh yeah, what luceberg said too. Did not pick up on that.

Your motherboard will not take an AMD processor, only an Intel socket 775 Core2Quad such as Q8400.

ya i know that my mobo will not take the amd one. so i am going to change my mobo also.
