FRANKtheGENT Posted February 2, 2012 Share Posted February 2, 2012 (edited) You know, I see a lot of people in this Commission and in this GTA online thing, that use the names of some of the greatest gangsters to ever live on this planet (specifically New York gangsters, im from NY and proud). But one question, if pay $10 to change your GamerTag to that gangsters name, or some gangsters name you got from Mario Puzo's The Godfather, theres a little expectancy that you'll know about that gangsters life or character. I mean if you truly admired and were inspired by these guys you would at least know a little information about these Gentlemen and how the Italian Mafia operated (by the way, for those of that didnt know, theres only one Mafia, and thats the Italians/Sicillians). Charles "Lucky" Luciano was the father of modern day mafia, he established and co-founded the New York Five Family and Chicago Outfit Commission to have meetings, hold peace between Families and to diversify the ethnicity with gangsters alike. The other ethnic groups were associates. This all brings me to my next point, I dont think Lucky Luciano or any traditional Mafia Boss would put up with the use of helicopters, missiles, tanks, or explosive shotguns, not even the f*cking Irish Republican Army would. The Mafia moves in silence. They definitley wouldnt be terrorizing eachother with helicopters or with an arsonal to fight WW3. Its bullsh*t, I think everyone should re-evaluate how your running things, and see if your playing as a Gangster, or General Patton on f*cking steroids with a little dosage of Hitler. The leader of the Commission knows this isn't rite for the future of the families. Commission questions can be redirected to Mancinis through an inbox, or on the Mancini page. Anything else, on the Bianco topic. Stuff like this can just hold up the gang section. Now here's my 2 cents. Absolutely agree. I mean, if no eyes are on you, just you and your guys, go ahead and dogfight. Same with randoms in a public lobby. But against rival gangs, coming at them like you're the military, you'd be sending out the wrong message. Basically, stick to realism in hits and wars. But what you do in downtime can't be defined. Toke Posted February 2, 2012 Share Posted February 2, 2012 While I won't pretend to know anything about the REAL mafia (besides the fact that it's nothing to be admired in the real world) I do know that you are playing a video game that some of you are taking far too seriously. I understand you come home from work/school and you just want to sit back and be totally engrossed in the fantasy but I worry about some of you, seriously. If your doing all these self imposed rules for role play purposes I can understand as I was playing Dungeons and Dragons while most you were still sh*tting in your diapers but your taking these rules with you into gang matches and free roams and frankly I find it ridiculous. Shooting down helicopters takes skill and strategy. Taking on a skilled pilot in wide open areas is suicide. Now if the pilot resorts to blading than thats cowardice. But in my opinion if each side agrees on set rules, then both teams must be held to those standards. Now if you enter a rival clan's FM then any thing and everything is open in my view. Mainly cause A) you're crashing their FM, and B) theres no chance for both sides to agree on the rules unless people can contain themselves and not kill each other. "Mafia" nowadays is a general term that can be applied to multiple criminal organizations very often not from Italy. The term "Mafia" is a word originally used by the Italian media to refer to Sicilian criminal groups. These groups, Sicilian and/or American, never used the term to describe themselves. When we talk about American Mafia we are talking about "this thing of ours" aka Cosa Nostra. Even though "Cosa Nostra" is the name given to the Sicilian Mafia in Italy, in the U.S. we cannot speak about an exclusively formed by Sicilians* Mafia. (*one "l") The roots are Sicilian but Neapolitan, Calabrian and other Italian criminal groups merged with the Sicilian creating what we know today as the American Mafia or American Cosa Nostra. One notable example of this is Al Capone, whose Italian origins are from the region of Naples, not from Sicily. As for the original Italian "Mafias" to this day we have 5 different criminal organizations. The Cosa Nostra from Sicily; the Camorra, from Naples and the region of Campania; the 'Ndrangheta from Calabria (also known in Australia as The Honoured Society), the Sacra Corona Unita from Puglia (Apulia); and the Stidda also from Sicily. All 5 groups operate on a national and international level and cooperate among themselves and with the American Mafia. As much as the media will let you think that the Mafia is not what it used to be, don't buy it cause it is actually still very powerful. When we are talking about Italy's Mafias we are talking about huge amounts of money. The 'Ndrangheta total turnover in 2007 was of about 43 billions €uros. Mainly from drug trafficking. The total annual turnover of the 5 Italians groups is estimated around 140 billions €uros. Not sure how is the situation today for the American Mafia but considering that they're still in business with their Italian counterparts I'm sure is not going so bad for them. As for the weapons, well, the Sicilians in Italy made large usage of great amounts of explosives to take out judges that were investigating on them and especially on their connections with the political world.
