GTA_stu
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-16796364 So the classic British sitcom Only Fools and Horses is going to get a remake in America. It's up there with the finest of British TV, and I know that it's a show that is loved by millions, myself included. The christmas specials in particular were so great, and attracted huge viewing figures. As it says in the article lots of other British shows have been "exported" to the US with mixed success, the most successful probably being The Office. So what's your take on this? Personally I'm a huge fan of the series, and it's my favourite sitcom. I've watched each episode at least 3 or 4 times. I think it could work, just as long as they tweak it properly to adjust toward the American audience. In a way I kind of hope it fails because it's just such a British type of comedy, and they'll obviously butcher it completely so that it's not recognisable anymore. They're just using the name in essence as well as the general set up. I don't want to get all tribal, but... it's ours so keep your damn hands off! AlexGTAGamer
I remember watching a scene from the US remake of "Fawlty Towers", it was horrendous. I can't really see this remake going very far, but I'd love to see what vehicle they use as a different Reliant Robin.
SIKKS66
It could work. As great as the UK version was, it's a long time over now. I see no harm in the Americans trying to recapture some of the magic of the UK's greatest sitcom. There will be no harm done to the original whether the remake is successful or not. I'd watch it. Creed Bratton
American Del Boy an Rodney? Now you're crossing the line you greedy bastards.
Jeeebuuus
I've never heard of this show and I respect its longevity but if its on ABC then I probably won't get to see it. Network television is not something to write home about here in the US. FCC kills any artistic integrity. But that doesn't mean it won't be successful. SIKKS66
If you're worried about censorship and stuff, Only Fools and Horses was one of those shows that managed to be successful without swearing and filth, it was a proper family show while also being hilarious. Time to post some random Only Fools clips I think Man, John Sullivan was a genius. I can't see those Scrubs writers being able to write not just characters and storylines but about a place and time like he did.

Vanilla Shake
One of the funniest shows I've ever seen, and I'm from the US. Yeah, Hollywood will no doubt bastardize it. TC718 / <629 / CF5

Robinski
I never got Only Fools and Horses. Just whooshed straight past me. It's simply not funny to me. A lot of it just seems really lowest-common-denominator. E: F*ck, Stewart Lee's right again. Edited February 2, 2012 by Robinski
SIKKS66
The Del going through the bar thing is overdone. So is the falling chandelier. So many classic moments that go untalked about.

Tommy Dickfingers
American Del Boy an Rodney? Now you're crossing the line you greedy bastards. Agreed. It'll never work, not in a million years. As much as I love American TV, they have produced some fantastic shows in the past 15-20 years, but this is a terrible idea. Darkshade12
I really can't see this working. The original Only Fools was amazing and you can never re create that awesomeness.
HeNDo6750
Wouldn't work at all. Nothing can beat the best british comedy of Only Fools and Horses. An american version won't last more than a year. The original is all we need in the world, and not an updated version no offence to any from the U.S
