Of course they need extensive marketing. It's needed to put the game in the minds of consumers, particularly consumers that don't know a lot about GTA.

Just like any product, they must advertise. Not everyone has internet or cable. Not everyone loves the game like us. I meet people weekly who don't know a thing about it. People you would assume had to know. Let's say the "hardcore" fan base is roughly a million or so worldwide. (<---- Totally fictitious, straight from my butt, statistic.....Followed by more stinky anal guessing) They need another 19 million casual gamers, people burned by GTA IV, Saints Row fans, and COD fanboys to get interested enough to purchase the game so that they can compete with the other big name titles. And a majority of these people have to be over 17 years of age because mom is concerned little billy might go on a for real. So yeah, they are going to wring out every last drop of advertising skill and technique to get this game in the minds of consumers. The best of which, oddly enough, is Rockstars' secrecy. The less they say the more we dream of gold, cars and blood. And since it's on our minds all the time, we do a ton of advertising for them.

the gtav trailer has like almost 12 million views on youtube and it's getting comments like every 3 secs they don't have to give us anything and the game will sell like hot cakes
