Tryst
Everyone is guilty even if proven innocent. I think thats how it goes. It sounds right. Fixed it. In american law it is possible to prove your self innocent. But it takes time and money even for a sure win. (relativley small case like mine cost me $1400 I lawyer fees, and barley avoided court fees.) I've personally spent almost 2 years in court over a charge where the defendant tried to drop the case. when the state (or feds I'm sure) become involved (whitch is often) it's not person vs person it's person vs state and that comes down to begging to the da in my case. OysterBarron
I was going to join the uk specials force four or 5 years back! but i decided against it. They will take anyone in the uk pretty much as long as your not a felon. Im actually quite shocked at how many things you need to becone one in the states. I am a fireman, so be ready to handle assholes like us on a fire scene >=] EDIT: Dont be a Tenpenny nor a Pulaski please =] Thank you for your service I think you should get to know yourself. How well do you handle stress? Are you likely to make mistakes under pressure? Any anger issues? Ever lash out or get frustrated enough to become violent? You have to think about possibly hurting yourself and worst hurting others on the job.

Yup good point, it might take a bit of mental conditioning but if you want to become a good cop then you need to be answering "yes" to these questions. When minorities are involved then it's a must. Jay
Only figure I could get was from 2009, 124 active duty police killed. So like, one every three days. Considering the amount of service people that would be something like f*ck all per 100,000.

lil weasel
Check out the FBI stats. Be aware that only reported cases are counted (obvious). Generally sensational figures of Cops who die include suicides, accidents, cops who gave up their weapon, etc...

anuj
Go Federal unless you live in some swanky f*cking area that starts their rooks at $45k. Don't lie. Don't f*ck up your application. Don't f*ck up on the poly. Hope that everyone you've ever met in your entire f*cking life doesn't feel like lying to the BI to f*ck your sh*t up. If you get sponsored for an academy, don't f*ck up PT. Don't f*ck up your academics. Don't f*cking volunteer for anything. Get a Bachelors. Don't get it in Criminal Justice unless you feel like doing research on crime theory. Departments straight don't give a sh*t what your major is because they're hiring you to be a police officer, not the next Robert f*cking Peel. Anything you learned in your wanky CJ courses is probably going to be drilled out of your head so they can teach it to you the way they WANT to teach you at the academy. Plus, college is pretty goddamn fun and if you decide (and don't tell me it won't f*cking happen, I seen it happen) that being a cop is not for you, then you have a degree in something else that you can fall back on. On every single packet I turned in, there were always three kinds of people who got preference points added to their exam scores: veterans, graduates, and certified cops. I'm not telling you to join the military, but if you're hellbent on not going to college, I could see several things worse than joining the Army as an MP. Not only do you go in, get trained in a whole bunch of useful sh*t, and get job experience, but then you get to serve your country, get paid, and then get $90,000 to use on college from Uncle Sam. Get out after your term is up, spend 2 years kicking ass in school and getting yourself up to 60-90 credit hours (not necessary if the department is willing to let you earn your degree concurrently, or if you live in Illinois), and get 20 bonus points on any app you turn in by being a veteran MP with college hours and only 23-25 years old. And debt-free, which is something I'm sure all your college-bound buddies are going to be bitching about while you ride around being awesome. In case I forgot earlier: don't f*ck up. anuj
Go Federal Every single CJ person I've spoken has told me this. lol. There's a reason. Great pay bands, job security, tough academic and physical training, and excellent opportunity for advancement. If you're good enough to be a local cop and have a degree, then there's no reason you shouldn't put in a packet for stuff like NGA, BP, USMS, etc.
