How long do you want the story?

How long do you want the overall storyline to be? In my opinion (and i'm probably in the minority) San Andreas' storyline was too long and i found myself just getting bored of it. If there was a mission i found particularly hard (fuc*ing RC plane mission) i would just stop playing it. GTAIV's story was perfect to me, i never got bored and when i finished it i didn't think to myself "that was short". Vice City on the other hand felt too short and it felt like i completed it in few days.

So i want the story about the same length as GTAIV's roughly 25-30 hours long, you?

i think iv story was a good length but the game does lack stuff to do. i hope v has the same number of story missions as iv, with more three leaf clover length missions, and lots of stuff to do

I want the main mission tree to be the same length, with a lot more to side track us. But, instead of little side missions: I hope they're more interesting and less repetitive.

You can't really say a story how long you want a story. If it's really intense and amazing well then it you'll bound to want it to be long.

San Andreas' story was, long, yes. But there was 3 cities and different envirnoments to each city was a new chapter. Each city had a different feel with a different set of missions. So it was acceptably long. Because each city or place had it own chapter of missions and characters. So, it was like have 3 Vice City's in one game.

The Wire or The Sopranos are 5 and 6 seasons long. The Sopranos is 98 episodes so stories can be long but if you have plenty of things to do, plenty of distractions outside of the story, it doesn't need to be that long.

I found there was a lack of things to do in IV. I was happiest playing IV's story. Well, I love playing all stories in GTA.

you make a good point..

maybe its the story i'm not getting bored of but the scale of San Andreas? That map was a bitch to drive/fly/swim across and it was just depressing when a mission that started you in San Fierro made you finish in Las Venturas or whatever the scenario may be. I just found the GTAIV story more compact, but interesting than San Andreas. Though i do agree with you about having more things outside of the story to do in SA rather than GTAIV.

GTA:SA storyline for it's time was good, I found that IV was a bit too short. I would like GTA: V to be EXTREMELY long so that by the time GTA: V Los Santos stories DLC comes out or GTA: VI comes out that it won't be too long of a wait.

Obviously one of the main reasons I love GTA more than any game is the unique stories they have. Hopefully it's longer than any other GTA story, which I expect it to be. However I hope the story is still good and as unique as all the other GTA story lines have been. Personally I wasn't that impressed with GTA IV, it was amazing, but I guess I was spoilt playing too much Vice city and San Andreas.

A 1000 page script points to a pretty long story line. Granted its not all written for the story but it should be some indication.

120 missions would be perfect. However the missions must have variety so we don't get bored easily. I'm not saying that every mission should be over the top action with crazy amounts of explosions but the missions should vary from relatively easy to very hard and the missions should have much variety as already stated. A mission doesn't have to be hard in order to enjoy it. A mission could be easy but yet extremely fun.

A mission I had in mind is to get up on the roof of a building with an office building right across the road. Your mission is to get a machine gun and camp on the roof until you see a bunch of lawyers gathering to have their daily morning meeting in a room with big glass windows. The lawyers must be taken out because your employer wants to end their corrupt lives. So you're lying down on the roof and get your machine gun and aim for the windows where the lawyers will meet. After a while they all enter the room and you shoot all of the except one guy who managed to run out of the room. You must hurry inside the building to find him and take him out. When you find him you bust a cap in his ass and soon the cops arrive. You're stuck at the 15th floor and cops are watching the exit and are looking for you. You call your boss and ask him to send a chopter to pick you up through the window. After a few minutes you see the chopter and they throw out a rope and you grab it and fly away just when the cops enter the room you're in. Mission complete.

I hope we get three medium sized stories for three different characters.

To be honest, I felt IV's story kind of... lost focus somewhere around Bohan. The first part in Broker and the aftermath were brilliantly done, but it feels like the story just didn't really know what to do with itself after that and dragged on and on until things starting coming back together towards the end. Then there's the DLC's. They were too short. So much stuff that could have been featured, but wasn't.

This leads me to want R* to create separate medium-sized stories. That way none of them would go beyond the point where they should have already ended, while not being so short that there's a sense of incompleteness when it's over.

lets be honest, Gta4 story was a complete let down.

It wasn't. GTA San Andreas was something you expect out of a cheesy action flick while IV was something you expect out of a well scripted TV Show like Breaking Bad or Boulevard Empire.

The Lost and Damned on the other hand was Sons Of Anarchy. TLAD had the best GTA story. It had all the grit, the betrayal and the tension.

You can make the game length 10 hours long and still have a great story in it. Assuming the size of the map is somewhat similiar to Red Dead Redemption, I say the story length should sit around 40 hours.

What i want is a SA story length (and the same variety in missions), but 4 or 5 expansions (one every year) until GTA 6... biggrin.gif

I want Rockstar to take all our money ! They deserve it... They have to take advantage of every inch of the new map...Give us WEEKS of gameplay...

And for God shake give us some new info

I want more missions, but not with boring parts in the story like IV let's face it

The Faustin's part was booooooring

The Ray's part was boooring as sh*t too

Pegorino's part was... extremely booooring too!!

The story of IV was Great but it had some boring parts in the story, maybe because you're in the same city all the time?. I don't know, maybe in V will be not boring parts because you could travel around the state during the story like San Andreas, you're in Los Santos, later you're I don't know in San Diego... later up in the Mount Chilliad beeing a Buddhist monk hahaa ... I don't know something like that

Both III, VC, SA and IV were too long for their own good in my opinion, a lot of it felt like filler. I think they should just stick to making episodes. TLaD and TBoGT had the perfect length, and between them and IV's story, they also offered a lot of variety without feeling like the dislodged patchwork that was SA's story.

IV's story was short, did it in like 9 hours, VC took me about 20-24 hours and I thought VC could have been longer.

As for the question "How long do you want the story?", why not something ridiculous, like 600 hours? But why stop there....800....1000..

Skyrim takes most people over 100 hours to complete (don't know about just main story though), that Kingdoms of Amalur or whatever is said to take 200 hours (speedrun..), I'd much rather be playing GTA for that length of time tbh (although Skyrim is fun). My point being that people are starting to catch on to the idea of a long single-player game.

IMO a longer story can only improve the rating of the game, I know a lot of people don't have the attention span to sit through a long story, but tbh that's their problem. The great thing about GTA is a lot of the missions don't take too long, you can start and stop whenever you want.

i have to disagree with you there, i LOVED the mafia characters in GTAIV!

wether it be the traditional italian Mafia with Pegorino and Ray or the Russian and Irish mafias. It was pretty much what the story was based on and the to Antagonists were from the Mafia. In My opinion missions with people like Brucie, Bernie etc were boring...

eurgh Bernie's missions... javascript:emoticon(':sui:')

I don't care as much about storylines, as long as they make enough sense to tie all the missions together. I usually remember the missions, more than i do the overall story anyway. I want the story to be as long as possible, allowing the most possible missions to be included. This really raises the replay value of the game once you complete the story. My biggest wish is for the missions to be diverse, and not just the same old drive to a location, kill guy, rinse and repeat. I don't know how many of you guys remember Syphon Filter, but most of the missions required stealth, and that really made that game challenging and memorable. There needs to be more than just gun blazing missions.

GTA 4 had a great length story.

San Andreas was great, as it had 110+ missions. As V is their most ambitious game yet, I would expect more than this.

You may disagree but I thought the mission layout in Vice City was perfect. You do the basic missions then a few tricky ones, then you get to buy assets which continue the story but you can pick which order you want to do them. Then once you complete so many, you get to do the final missions. San Andreas was too linear, IV is better but if they can stick to the Vice City formula then are onto a winner.

A little over 100 main storyline missions would be nice.

With a good number of side missions during and after the main ones.
