October has like a 0% chance of getting GTAV

Call of Duty is being less and less popular. The most recent game was basically a rehash of the previous 2 games. Even alot of the dumbc*nt fanboys complained that the campaign sucked the MP was virtually exactly the same.

This guy gets it.

The quality of the series is decreasing, MW3 was the first time I actually saw "hardcore" MW3 fans be disappointed by the online aspect of the game, especially the map designs, a lot of my friends quit playing it after the first month and a half.

and the next COD isn't going to be made my Infinity Ward, it's probably going be treyrach, and their Call of Duty games don't usually sell as crazy as the actual Modern Warfare series does.

So it comes down to a Treyarch rehashed COD game vs GTA V.

GTA wins.

I'm sorry, but I thought the May 25, 2012 ideas were dead!

I do believe May 25, 2013 could be a release date. Why?

1. R* gets more development time.

2. They get more time to advertise the game.

3. They have less competition

4. Max Payne 3 is done. They know have more time to focus on V, and then Agent.

But 2012, virtually impossible.

What you don't release is that in waiting that long, they could very possibly kill all the hype, and if the casual gamer is waiting, and something similar comes out that is good, they might not even buy GTA V

IMO GTA V will not break sales records and to the majority of people, from that trailer, it looks just like IV (yea I know little details clearer and better traffic dd rah rah... most people dont care, it generally looks the same)

So what was it meant to look like then?

First of all let me just say that the idea that GTAV won't have, or need, a proper marketing campaign is just absurd. Of course it will, I've never heard of any big release in any format not having one. It makes zero financial sense not to have one. Not to mention it would be a huge risk and one which financial and marketing executives, who tend to like playing things safe, would not take.

It would also not make a lot of financial sense to release 2 games at the same time or around the same period. You won't see GTAV being released within 3 months of Max Payne, and that's a pinky promise. Why? Because they will be in competition with each other, and the sale of one game would adversely affect the other. Then there's the lucrative end of year christmas period, which although sees a lot of other top releases , is by far one of the safest bets for a company to release a game in.

My personal bet would be on october.

I reckon Gta V will come out in October. Hopefully it doesn't get delayed to 2013. I remember in 2004 when i was waiting for San andreas to come out they released info throughout the year. on the offical website first showed us a map of Los santos and screenshots. Then I think it was 2 months later they showed San Ferrio then again Las Venturas.

Yeah from what i saw the differences are pretty big, very very large improvement from IV.

@deconstrukt, Treyarch's call of duty is better, the game is more balanced, (Takes a few more bullets to kill, rather than a very quick spray and pray with no kick on MW3 where two bullets gets you the kill) better maps, and in general less glitches.

I think everyone could except for a few blind idiots apparently. Besides since the game is built on the same engine (R.A.G.E) naturally things will look similar. Kind of like GTA III to VC. VC's graphics were an improvement, but it still looked like GTA III in a lot ways. Remember GTA V isn't a jump in terms of graphics like GTA II to GTA III or SA to GTA IV. It's an evolution. Not a revolution.

In cutscenes I think GTA V will look a lot sharper and perhaps RDR like, but in free roam it'll probably share a lot of GTA IV like qualities and that's not a bad thing because IMO GTA IV is still an amazing looking game.

Call of Duty Black Ops is the best selling game in the COD franchise, if I'm correct...probably not...

Arr.... You forget about Max Payne 3 tounge.gif

Give it a month, and the community will forget about MP3. Itt looks like a decent game, but it's not exactly groundbreaking.

O.K then, stand to be corrected. GTA V will outsell any competition 2 fold.

Care to lay some money on it?

I honestly can't see the game coming out until Mid-2013. I really doubt it's coming out this year.

I hope you remember that GTA IV was announced in 2006, was supposed to come out in 2007, but ultimately came out mid-2008.

still doesn't change the fact that GTA IV was supposed to come out in 2007, a year after the announcement.

I don't think you can compare GTA IV's marketing with GTA V's. Firstly, IV was announced by Microsoft at E3, while V was announced by Rockstar themselves on no special occasion. Secondly, IV's first trailer came out almost nine months after the announcement, while V's came out a week after the announcement.

If you do it from the date of the first trailer, then IV was supposed to be released less than seven months afterwards (before being delayed by half a year).

I'm just saying that Rockstar has done this with GTA IV.

Maybe the circumstances have changed since then icon14.gif

One key word: quality. Do you want a rehashed GTA IV but with a new location and setting, or do you want a completely new, fresh, game? That's why my money's on May 2013.

End of the year is targeted, Oct/Nov cause that puts the reveal trailer 1 year before release. If the target is missed, it'll come out in March or April 2013. Maybe May or even June.

They won't say a release date until they are sure this time.

The trailer shows the game off in a very slick way, not showing how much isn't done yet. You guys did a mapping-out-LS thread, which was impressive, and probably shows about how much is done.

I'm guessing this stuff, but there is no reason for them to reveal more than a year before release, but if they do not release in the fall, they will definitely release in march/april, but it would never ever be before the holiday season of this year, there has not even been any trailers. Hoping for it to come before the end of this year is basically futile, there haven't even been other trailers or interviews about the game with reveals.

Not wise to release a game this big next to call of duty either. GTA and CoD "fans" are minority in the audience that buys those games. Most of the players are casual. They set records by having that appeal. Splitting that appeal is no good. So I wouldn't personally expect GTA until early 2013. Because for both of them to set records, they will need to release apart from one another. Because actual fans are the minority to the "me-too" buyers and casuals who move on to other games, but those casual and me-too buyers are the ones who set the records.

In other words, us guys who play gta for the whole year it comes out, or people who play call of duty for the whole year until the next one, those guys are a sure sale - but the people who only play call of duty a month or less when it comes out, gta a month or less when it comes out, those people split between the two isn't wise for either of the two franchises, so they probably will not release it near call of duty, and call of duty might have been why they moved IV in the first place, if not for halo 3.

Dunno, fun to speculate, I don't see them going into the holiday season with GTA V, but anything is possible.

It wouldn't be ideal I must admit, but I would still buy the game. I'm going to be going to University for 3 years, so I don't mind waiting that bit longer. tounge2.gif

Rockstar does not follow a formula or a pattern. You can't fudge an equation pieced together out of addresses and tail numbers to find it. Information and games are delivered when Rockstar is good and ready to deliver. It doesn't matter if COD MW765 Ultimate fanboy edition with free gold nuggets and happy meal is coming out that month. If they're ready, they're ready. And if they're not, they're not. There is no big mystery really.

But I seriously doubt they want to compete for cash with MP3. The assumption most gaming companies make, is that the average gamer can afford a brand new full priced game roughly every one to two months. I can do it almost every three to four months. Everyone is different. Gamers can be some of the pickiest consumers. Financial standing is the largest variable in this market. I'm a huge Rockstar fan, but even so, if they were to release GTAV and MP3 too close together, I'll be forced to choose GTAV. And it would be at least three months before I finally picked up MP3. Mine being a more extreme case I assume but never the less this is a very real situation for many gamers. Many of which are in school, from grade school to college and are either unemployed (unless your country produces products for Nike or Wal-mart, then you can count the grade schoolers as working class) or working some crappy job with minimal disposable income. So they'll never intentionally compete with themselves. Taking the steak out of the competitions' mouth is different though. And being all alone on the market is the most ideal.

My prediction then

Rockstar will release GTAV when there is nothing left to code. The date will bear no significance before it's set. Driving while simultaneously murdering folks will be heavily featured along with a story and a setting. And the MC will be a person, who murders, drives and makes money.

Like I have said before Gary Forman said on his facebook a day or two before the trailer came out that GTA V expected release date is 5/9/12 now it may mean September 5th because some places flip the day and the month. In the USA the month comes first then the day. I think he meant Septemeber 5th.
