Chunkyman
But whatever. GTA is very underground and will need a sh*t load of promoting if any fool is going to buy it, I mean, none of us here will buy it unless we get adds right? You aren't getting it. The point of advertising isn't to get forumites to buy it (because we already will), it's to get people that don't know a lot about GTA to buy it. If they never advertised, they would barely expand their fanbase. If their fanbase never grew, they wouldn't make as much money. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills, why don't people understand the importance of marketing?

RED_
October seems about right. At the earliest. The opening post is hilarious. I mean MP3 and GTAV would still compete with each other if released at the same time. Simply because of finance. I mean there are other reasons too but finance is the biggest. If two big games have just been released, and someone only has money for one, then the other will suffer. That's something that can be avoided so they will avoid it. Why go into competition with themselves? If both games were however released months apart then that same person could either justify the outlay or save up for the next game. So that person will then buy both games. This happens quite often. I did exactly that when COD and Battlefield came out. I only bought one. When other games i like come out close to each other i only buy one. A lot of people do the same. So, uhmm.. wich one did you buy? Battlefield ofcourse Guess how many times i've played it? .... Once. and that was release day.

Simon_V
March-April 2012 ... 0% for a GTA V release May 2012 ... 0% for a GTA V release, Max Payne 3 October 2012 ... if they will release it this year, this is the perfect month March-May 2013 ... if not in October 2012, then in 2013. R* released ''1 Game Hit'' in ''1 Year'', sou, maybe Max Payne 3 in 2012 and Grand Theft Auto V in 2013, Agent in 2014 ...... the end of this Gen. Of Consoles Next Gen. Of Consoles 2015 - Red Dead Revolution 2016 - Manhunt 3 2017 - Grand Theft Auto VI 2017 - Max Payne
Gran Feft Orto
Competition is irrelevant to GTA. COD worries about when GTA is coming out. GTA doesn't care when COD is coming out. Exactly this. It seems like many people on here are either too ignorant or have forgotten, but GTA is without a doubt the biggest series in the world - known by fanboys, casual gamers and, importantly, non-gamers alike. Yes they will need to market the game, but I would be shocked if this wasn't the biggest selling game of the year. Rockstar certainly aren't going to be too worried about competition when they release the game. I genuinely think the producers/marketers of COD and other recent gaming trends crapped themselves when Rockstar surprised everyone with the trailer for GTA V. Zee
Somehow I dont think the CoD devs really care, look how many more copies they sold than GTA http://www.google.com/search?q=mw3+saes&ie...iw=1024&bih=672 If anything R* should be worried as CoD took the dominant spot as the top selling franchise while R* were sitting n their arses doing aboslutely sh*te. ChillyPhilly
It's very simple, March-April has a much higher chance than October-November In March or April, Rockstar will have barely any competition, if any at all, October, however, they have to deal with everybody elses big releases. And for the people saying releasing GTAV will hurt MP3 sales or vice versa, Stop being f*cking stupid, it won't, they are two entirely different games, for two entirely different markets. I think it's the other way around. Other developers have to deal with GTA V. Nothing released at the same time as V can be bigger than it.
HuntsVillain256
If GTAV comes out this year it will be on the WII-U. Xbox and PS already said they arent doing a new system and I remember when we first heard about the WII-U it was supposed to have a controversial release title coming right behind it. xrk
Cod9 will probably outsell GTA V Of course it will. all these jokers that think R* can just release a GTA game and it'll break records are deluded. for one thing not only does it have to deal with the lack of anything worth mentioning for 4-5 years it has to make up for GTA IV being a disappointment, despite what the fanboys think. IMO GTA V will not break sales records and to the majority of people, from that trailer, it looks just like IV (yea I know little details clearer and better traffic dd rah rah... most people dont care, it generally looks the same) I hope they fix the problems (Im sure they will unless they listen only to the arse licking idiots, which I doubt) and get the game on track but it wont be beating cod unless enough people have had enough of the absolute liberties activision are taking, which I dont see happening untill cod 2013-14, maybe longer if Treyarch pull their fingers out (needs real mod tools blops was a f*cking let down!!). Im drunk (couldnt even browse the gta next forums sobar ) and probably rambling so ...

DeconstruKt
Anyone who thinks a new COD will outsell GTA V is clearly a COD Fanboy. I know a lot of folks IRL, and read countless forums of people disappointed in the effort of MW3, besides the Storyline (which was decent) the Multiplayer is the same old, while the hardcore fans still play it, many have quit and were unhappy with MW3's online portion. (myself included) as It was hyped up to be the "most anticipated game ever" The Online was a huge fail, BF3 has taken the #1 spot for me unless I'm in the mood for some run and gun. GTA V Will kill any COD that comes out during the same time. Edited February 1, 2012 by DeconstruKt

DeconstruKt
Well you are entitled to your own opinion, COD MW1 was the most anticipated game in 2007, and at the time it was the first game of it's kind, and GTA IV murdered it. 5 years later, COD is still pumping out games every year, this holiday season it will be a Non infinity ward COD, thus It won't sell like MW3. Who is really taking the piss out of who? But hey, let's just agree to disagree. You believe they will spend a minimum 3 months advertising and promoting the game on tv, and everywhere else before it's release, because GTA needs all the publicity it can get. I believe they won't advertise on tv, or do any other real sort of promoting (other than a trailer or two, and the odd magazine article) until it's released, because the game really needs no hype. Death2Drugs
I'm sorry, but I thought the May 25, 2012 ideas were dead! I do believe May 25, 2013 could be a release date. Why? 1. R* gets more development time. 2. They get more time to advertise the game. 3. They have less competition 4. Max Payne 3 is done. They know have more time to focus on V, and then Agent. But 2012, virtually impossible.

Wubbzy
Call of Duty is being less and less popular. The most recent game was basically a rehash of the previous 2 games.
