Gtaghost22
people forgot how powerful GTA is as a franchise.. GTA V IS THE BIGGEST RELEASE OF 2012!!! ENOUGH SAID!
HOTMILFDAD
I'm putting my money on October. March-May is waaayyyy too close considering how they haven't even started hyping the game. They need a fairly large time period to get the marketing campaign going, and since they haven't started that yet, we can be confident it won't be released until at least summer or fall. I think the hype is pretty big even now after just 1 trailer and minor announcement. Hype for the community, yes. For people out there who are so drawn into other games or for other media outlets, no. There's barely any hype for them. I disagree. I know plenty of people who are not particular GTA fans that know of V and its existence. Of course they aren't as die hard as most fans here and won't be part of the "community" but they know a new GTA is coming. I think they can easily get the marketing train going over the next few months and release the game sometime in July - September. I walked into Gamestop and I have seen boxes with the following art: *SNIP* I am sure the word is out. Not as heavily as it should be but its out there. Absolutely not. Like Chunkyman said - the general public doesn't know. It may seem like the hype has gone through the roof, but that's because we're big fans of the game and would love to hear some more information but other than us and other gamers out there, no one really knows yet. Not until Rockstar puts out merchandise, billboards, press events, etc. Just because it's at GameStop (a store primarily focused on gaming), doesn't mean the faux boxart will be spotted in Target, or Best Buy yet. (on a different note, I just got a job at GameStop lololol)

I think the hype is pretty big even now after just 1 trailer and minor announcement. On this forum the hype is big, but no one is really talking about it in the general public. They haven't made posters, put up billboards, had any big magazine articles, put up a detailed website, made T-shirts, done interviews, make TV advertisements, release concept art, announce release dates, put the game up for pre-order, and other standard features typical of a marketing campaign. Since all of the above takes months to complete, we can be confident that it will be at an absolute minimum 3-4 months before release, with a fall release being the most likely (because summer releases are avoided). Why exactly are summer releases avoided? Most people are on vacation I think. It's called the 'Sommerloch' in Germany. Interesting. Well as much as I hate to speculate I still think mid-summer to September is a good guess on release. But I could be wrong as well as many others. Lets see how it goes down. Like I said I understand "the masses" have not been reached yet but there is plenty of time over the next few months for them to get notice. Feb - Aug they could start a heavy marketing campaign and release it sometime in September. Ugh I got to get out of this thread because I hate speculating without fact! lol Keep the guesses coming though people they are all interesting reads. JasonBrody
I'm sure the mass market and our grandmothers will be aware of GTA V once Rockstar decides to actually start all the marketing, for example TV ads, giant billboard ads, magazine ads etc etc.

Ludzidocelowych
Grand Theft Auto doesn't need a huge ad campaign, they could release it with absolutely no word, and it will still sell hundreds of millions within a week

HOTMILFDAD
Grand Theft Auto doesn't need a huge ad campaign, they could release it with absolutely no word, and it will still sell hundreds of millions within a week Wha-? How? Name me one Triple A game that had no marketing whatsoever and yet still sold "hundreds of millions within a week"? Your post makes as much sense as your logic does. None. Yes, we'd all buy it because we're members of a GTA community who started disecting the trailer the minute after it was posted. But the game wouldn't sell as well as it would if Rockstar just avoided promoting the game.

Coral_City
It's very simple, March-April has a much higher chance than October-November In March or April, Rockstar will have barely any competition, if any at all, October, however, they have to deal with everybody elses big releases. And for the people saying releasing GTAV will hurt MP3 sales or vice versa, Stop being f*cking stupid, it won't, they are two entirely different games, for two entirely different markets. InstantCClassic
March and April? For a release day? Um, no. Max Payne 3 is their current priority as far as having the game available at local Gamestops in May. MAY. Rockstar is focusing on the marketing for GTA V until late 2012. You have got to be kidding me....March/April?! Can't believe that went through your mind...

It would not hurt sales at all. One is a linear shooter and one is an open world thriller. The only thing they have in common is that they are developed by the same company. Please tell me that was a joke.

Unless these little white boys ask their parents nicely to buy them two games, most likely one game will be the purchase and that purchase will be towards GTA V. Therefore, hurting MP3's sales.
