Algonquin Assassin
I say Taxis in Liberty City, and Buses in Los Santos, it fits the environment. [REDACTED] I'm going with this. It was kind of stupid how buses in GTA IV were pointless outside of scripted chases, but R* nailed taxis perfectly. That's what I think of when I think of NYC. I'd say buses will be a big thing in GTA V. A Speed type mission would be pretty cool.
HOTMILFDAD
What annoys me more than not being able to take the bus in the GTA games is how you can't walk around inside the damn trains. What's the reason for this? Why can't I go from cart to cart running from the cops and/or have a shoot out?
onii55GTA
I don't care about this. Just make the trains rideable again, damn it.

RockStarNiko
a way to make trains and buses used more is have it so that you can only meet potential girlfriends whilst travelling on them so you get on a train, free to move around and one of the games girlfriends might also be on that train, it would work like a random encounter, approach them, short intro cutscene on the train or bus, then they added to phone as girlfriend
UP9390
I want the trains to be drivable, hopefully the light rail system will not be grade seperated. Being able to move from car to car will be EPIC, hoping they don't have it like Red Dead Redemption to where the 1st shot of a gun and the train comes to a complete stop. Light Rail has been confirmed by the footage in the 1st trailer. A few major things that need to be improved with the trains, WORKING HORNS, Light Rail & Subway Trains could have a wabco horn like the ones on the R142 subway cars used by the NY MTA. While the Heavy Rail trains could have a mix of Leslies, Nathan Airchime, and others used on Heavy Rail currently. The horn can be activated like horns on any other vehicle. A bell for the Light Rail and Heavy Rail, bell can be activated like the sirens on emergency vehicles. Lighting needs to be better than san andreas, working headlights & ditch lights, on passenger trains ( heavy and light rail the ditch lights could flash while the bell is on ) . For buses they need warning lights like school buses, they could be just amber. Railroad Crossings there needs to be different types where there could be some with just crossbucks, private crossings, crossings with lights & bells, and then crossings with lights and gates & bells. Mainland Marauder
Los Angeles has come a long way with this in the last 20-25 years. This Los Santos is going to be a huge city and I'd expect much of this to be a means of getting around. I've read complaints about being "forced" into taxis in IV and not being able to explore. I have to say I don't recall much being forced into a taxi. You took it because the city was huge and you didn't always had time to walk or even drive everywhere. Imagine what getting around the real NYC would be like if not for taxis and subways. "You tell me exactly what you want, and I'll explain to you very carefully why it cannot be." Chukkles
I would be fine with a gunshot stopping the train, I mean it's what would happen IRL, (don't give me no realism bullsh*t) but only if we can then go to thew driver boot him off or kill him and drive away with a train full of terrified passengers that we can go back and rob once we park the train somewere out of the way. After RDR, I definatly think robbing peds will be in in a more detailed way than just pulling a gun on an ATM user.

Troll Proof
I found that kind of funny really. I wouldn't mind mass trans in V, especially if you get rewarded for taking it. I felt driving in IV was a hassle, so the taxi was my favorite transportation, hopefully taxis will be even more instrumental in V. As long as the transport methods are entertaining, functional and well designed, I be happy.
fudgetaffy
I was happy to see the metro buses in the trailer 2. Now where's the light rail system by LACMTA?
THUNDER-TRUMP
I know its not mas transit per say but found a railyard. Least this is proof there might be a substantial rail infrastructure.
gregg414
Well for the people hoping for buses I'd say you're in luck, there were definitely a couple of scenes with prominent buses in trailer 2...I was always a little disappointed they took that feature out of IV. DylRicho
Considering Vice City allowed you to pick passengers up via Coaches, I was actually looking for the same thing in San Andreas and IV, but was disappointed. I was especially disappointed with IV, considering the whole point of the game was to add realism. It also lacked intelligent firefighters... I'm hoping to have a proper public transport system in V, as well as public services with some sense.

And from the trailers they seems to have both regular service(orange) and the rapid(red) service.

Mr_Clifton
I loved the public transportation in IV. It really showed you how alive the city really was and got to listen in on other people's conversations and phone calls. Good post Hope they do expand on it in V. ??????? There were Taxi's and a Subway Train. The Buses were stationary How is that realistic of New York? hope that the buses will be driven by NPCs. Matt4936
You know Taxis are much cooler with the new look.(Yellow + Blue)! That they do. With the addition of taxi minigames I hope to have many extra hours of gameplay after the story. The only thing that a need to be completely happy with the game is a confirmation of train driving. Graven
Is it really called Mass Transit? That sounds awful, it should be Public Transportation. But yeah, I'm quite interested about it and hope we are able to use them all as passengers and drivers. Good post OP.

The Dark Knight
I want buses if nothing else for this fantastic "game" I played with folks in private free roams. BUS VS BIKE One dude on a bike, one or several people in a bus. They both go to opposite ends of a long road and charge each other at top speed. The dude on the bike dies. It's f*cking fantastic. Isuck100%
Buses? Was there a year long bus strike in Liberty City? Why did they never move and just stay parked in Star Junction and bus stations? There could have been a bus driver side mission, where you go along a certain route picking up/dropping off passengers earning money in the process I thought the buses in GTA IV were immobile because they were too large to turn properly on the streets and would have constantly been knocking down poles and traffic lights. Most streets in GTA IV were rather narrow, after all. Hopefully this is not an issue in GTA V. We have seen the buses in motion in the second trailer, so I am hopeful. I still don't know if it could properly work with routes and all, though. As you move around the city, only the surrounding area is rendered, so unless the game is keeping track of where all these buses would be on their routes, how would it work? I think we will see buses driving around, but I'm not sure they will actually function realistically, rather they would just be part of the spawning traffic. Buses did fit down all streets in the PC version at least buses that follow a route is very simple. The buses just follow a separate path from the traffic, it has been done in lots of other games. I loved taking the subway everywhere possible in GTA4. We've already seen local buses moving and a railroad (though no passenger trains, I think) so I think we'll actually be able to do it this time. Imagine taking the bus through rough neighborhoods, being able to watch life through the windows...
