Planes in trailer = Multiple cities

Clearly, we're going to be able to fly jet planes and fighter jets (at 1:00 in trailer in case you missed it) in GTA 5. If Los Santos is the only city and there are only a few scattered country towns, 'jet' planes would be absolutely unrealistic, no? Are we going to land on Main Street?

The presence of jets can only mean that there are multiple cities as flying a jet from LS to a small town wouldn't make sense, and R* are all about making sense. And you wouldn't take-off from LS airport and fly around the map only to land back in LS.

Is there any argument to be made as to how jets would work in a one-city GTA map?

If it is a version of the Hydra (harrier jump jet) it will be VTOL. That bitch will go anywhere (except landing on water).

I'm hoping for multiple runways. I hope not multiple cities, as I want some boonies to play in.

Judging by the big afterburner, when the game is polished I think it will be a VTOL F-35 Lightning.

This doesn't mean that SF and LV are in the game though. Maybe San Diego. Or maybe there's only LS, but a military base or smaller airport.

Planes definitely hint at a big map, but not necessarily another city.

Not to mention Dan houser himself confirmed it was a very big map in the max Payne 3 interview

As much as I want LV/SF in the game.. If they were to add SD or even a mexican border, I'd be happy.

technically, I want more than one city, especially since LS appears really small (from what I've read in threads)

Dan Houser himself said it would be Los Santos and countryside, but a VERY big map.

So stop with the wishing for SF and LV.

It's not going to happen until the next game at least.

Also....I remember R*'s entire justification for lack of planes in GTA4 being because of the lack of other cities. It wasn't even because of GTA4's map size either.

Exactly, it was because there was nowhere else to fly to.

I wish people would get of the "Los Santos and surrounding hill, countryside" bandwagon.

Stating Houser said it yadda yadda, it has also been said in an interview that this will be a RE-IMAGINED SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. Meaning the whole southern end of california, does Los Angeles take up the enirety of southern california?

I don't think so.

Everybody has pretty much accepted that there won't be LV/SF because they're not southern cali.

But there are other cities and towns.

A reimagined San Diego quickly comes to my mind.

There doesn't need to be multiple cities for planes to be useful. I mean assuming this map is much bigger than SA's and I think it will R* could put in a military base or several smaller airports for towns on the outskirts.

In real life planes don't just fly from city to city you know. confused.gif

Vice City was small, but it had a few planes, didn't it?

The most that the presence of jets confirm is that the map is pretty big. Imagine if the map was the size of San Andreas, only with one huge city and countryside: a jet would still be useful there. LA has a number of airports, so a larger LS would too probably, therefore there'd always be somewhere to land.

But the main logic for not putting planes in IV was that there wasn't anywere to fly to.

If you think a military base equals somewere to fly to, your thinking way too small.

But I suppose thinking big just sets us up for a fall.

But still, Logic for not putting them in IV.

In VC the planes were slow and could land anywere, even on water.

Personally I think GTA IV should've had seaplanes at least, but the geography of the map itself didn't really fit an essential need for bigger and more powerful planes.

I think GTA V's map will be much more realistically scaled than SA was, so it probably wont be as if we'll being flying from LAX (Or whatever the GTA V equivalent will be) and reach the other side of the map in a matter of a few seconds.

As far as I can tell R* could still pull off a map with only one city and have a use for bigger and powerful planes. It's not as if they'll make us fly around the map and have to come back to LS. There can still be places to go to even without another city of two.

Whether it's just a city with surrounding countryside and mountain regions, or a state with multiple cities, it's the size of the overall map that will dictate the availability of flying planes. Although seeing planes in the trailer does'nt necessarily guarantee being able to fly around, i DO believe there will be more than one airport. Strictly going by Houser's statement that the map will be the biggest yet, there's no reason to doubt that there could be at least 2 airports on opposite ends of the map, regardless of how many cities are in it. San Andreas was pretty big, and had several airports. As for IV, the planes were strictly for atmosphere, and flew to and from destinations unknown. I thought the map was pretty decent, but keeping in mind that it was a parody of NYC and part of New Jersey, trying to use planes in that environment would be like flying from the Bronx to Brooklyn. It just would'nt work, or make sense.

Well in san andreas I never used the airport for the Hydra. I just landed that bitch in the middle of the street. And the other planes I just parachuted out of once I reached my destination. And when I had to go to another far away place, I just spawned a hydra.

This has been discussed ad nauseam and doesn't need its own thread, but I do agree there will be more than one city. The evidence and logical speculation for multiple cities far outweighs the evidence against. I do think Los Santos will be the main event, but just like Algonquin was sort of the epicenter of Liberty City, but there were other boroughs, so too I think this rendition of San Andreas will have one other area (maybe two, but I lean towards one, if they want to make the world as detailed and vibrant as IV) and a handful of other places like small backwater towns, mountains and desert (maybe a canyon or gorge). Should be excellent.

Multiple cities confirmed by the word "a very big map" I think.

Jesus Christ. Talk about jumping the gun lol

"A very big map" could mean just that - a very big map.

It in no way confirms the fact that they are more than one city.

Hell, take the press release for example:

...Los Santons and it's surrounding country side...

Got it?

No other cities.

Just LS and it's countryside which in my mind is going to be at least 2x bigger that Liberty City.

Oh, and since Los Santos is based off LA which is in SoCal, I must thank you for proving my post correct!

I'd love another city, but I think it means LS will be the main city with towns and settlements surrounding it.
