A loaded rifle
What will I need to add to my PC to be able to run ICE enhancer and LCPDFR? This is my pc http://ottawa.flyerland.ca/products/costco...9/hp-brand-1014 Thanks
leik oh em jeez!
You're running Intel HD graphics right now so you'll need a graphics card. What card really comes down to personal taste/opinion and your budget. How much were you looking to spend? I also can't find any information on your power supply's wattage. HP usually gives you quite a bit of head room for adding components, but there are always exceptions. So knowing this could help us to give you a more accurate selection of cards that would work with your PC without also needing a new power supply. Wolf68k
This should be the same thing http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documen...&sw_lang=#N1143 The specs show that there is a PCIEx16 slot, so that's good. But the PSU is 250W, so you'll need to upgrade that to a more powerful unit. You could also upgrade the CPU to an i5-2xxx, which is what the site says but then at the same time it's confusing because it also says you can upgrade to the following: Core i3-2xxx/T dual core, Core i5-2xxx quad core, Core i3-2xxx dual core, Core i3-2xxx/T dual core. Not sure why they would list i3-2xxx/T twice and still have i3-2xxx. I'm not sure why you wouldn't be able to get an i7-2600 in there as well but then I'm not sure I would risk spending the money to find out if it'll work or not. The 6GB of RAM is good to go as is and you'll only be able to upgrade to 8GB anyway plus you wouldn't notice the difference anyway between 6 and 8GB. The rest of the system is ok. Slamman
I have an i3, asked our resident PC guru Mkay82 if he felt even an older gen (first gen) i3 CPU would be better then Core2Duo or Core2Quad, he thinks it will work marginally better then the older 775 socket Core2Quad I have, the Q8200, but I am not convinced, though right now I have that CPU in another PC. iCE will challenge your rig if you're using Ballad of Gay Tony it seems, I hear that that one taxes PCs more then the older GTA PC versions. Seems true from my test

Slamman
May I recommend you save on eBay then? Really, people attack me because I like thrifty deals? That's their loss to pay more for the same item!
leik oh em jeez!
May I recommend you save on eBay then? Really, people attack me because I like thrifty deals? That's their loss to pay more for the same item! A lot of people are just scared of getting ripped off. They hear stories about the few people that get ripped off and assume it's the norm. It's really not though. With roughly 100 - 150 transactions between my account and me using my father's account, I've been ripped off once, and I got all my money back. Including what I payed for shipping. My recommendation: Buy the graphics card on ebay, buy the power supply new. Graphics cards usually either work or don't work. Stress testing it under one game is usually enough to tell if it's good or bad. As far as quality goes, XFX and EVGA really come out ahead of everyone else. Power Supplies degrade over time, I believe they on average lose 5-15w of maximum power output each year. And brand really does matter. Off the top of my head, Corsair, Antec, OCZ, and XFX come to mind as good PSU manufacturers. EVGA is just getting into it, but make good PSUs. I've also heard good things about Cooler Master, Thermaltake, and PC Power & Cooling. Stay away from Apevia, Compucase, Raidmax, Apex, and Logisys. Guess I'll go ahead and post this for you to consider while I try to find some hardware for you.
Wolf68k
@A loaded rifle $600USD is more than enough for what you need. That is assuming you're in the USA. If so a quick trip to Newegg for a PSU and GFX card and you can have around $200-300 left over depending on what you want, or of course you spend the whole thing. Or you can get an i5-2500 to go with the other 2 and you will be spending it all easily. I would also suggest looking at adding some cooling as well, the stock CPU cooler (if you go with the a new CPU as well) is fine but for about $30-50 you can get a much better cooler, and then about $10-20 for a front case fan to help pull some more cooler air in...and I would do this whether or not you go with just the PSU and GFX card. Stinky12
Before plucking for a graphic card, measure the inside first because you don't want to get a card that will not fit.
Slamman
Well, if you're a techy who loves deals, eBay is still the best place. I just got a message from eBay saying thanks for 11 years of membership! That tells you something about me!

Slamman
I'm only really aware of iCE, but try YouTube to see visual evidence, and ignore Wolf trying to debunk all my ideas, eBay has the best prices outside of a thrift store, do your homework, do some research and you'll know what you're buying on eBay, all he ever EVER does it seems is be a shill for Newegg merch. Getting paid a percentage of anything sold there, Wolf?? haha Edited January 31, 2012 by Slamman
Wolf68k
@A loaded rifle XFX HD-697A-CNFC Radeon HD 6970 $329.99 COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power Plus RS700-PCAAE3-US 700W $79.99 Total: $410 If you have a Microcenter near you, you can take the $190 left over (might need a few more dollars to cover the sales tax) to get an i5-2500 (K or non-K) The 7950 is $150 more and you'll only get about 10-15fps more and half of that is likely because it has 1GB more of RAM on it, so I didn't think it worth it. I went with the CoolerMaster because I looked at 3 other PSUs of about the same wattage; TheremalTake, Corsair and OCZ. All where great but the CM has 54A on the +12V rail more any of the others, plus I've had a CM PSU before and it latest around 2years before it crapped out (up 24/7 part of the reason) but then it also wasn't made to be a hard used unit, I got it as a quick cheap replacement that fit my requirements and my budget and to get 2years out of it impressed me enough. @Slamman Are you taking a percentage from eBay, Goodwill or your local dumpster for all the times you mention them? You sure as hell mention them every chance you get. I would go into a long and lengthy list of reasons why I don't like eBay and compare each one to Newegg, or hell even Amazon sellers at least for the things not sold directly through Amazon that is, but that would be completely off topic. If you want to shill for eBay then by all means do so, but stop with this crap of "you can find it on eBay" how about instead you prove it and post some actual links to the product. I never expect anyone to use the Newegg links I give them. All I do is point to the product for them to look at. I couldn't give 2 rat s**ts if they buy it through Newegg, Amazon, eBay or Billy Bubba's House of Electrical Thingys That Blink. And frankly for you even to suggest that I would point someone to any place to buy a product because I get a percentage is an insult. The ONLY time I've EVER done anything like that was back in the day of "paid to surf" services because that's what it was meant for. I've clicked on links just to look at image and when I see I have to look at a FREAKING AD because I can see the image it pisses me off.
Slamman
I'm mentioning eBay because I've shopped plenty of places, and you JUST CANNOT beat an auction deal, bottom line http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Pavilion-Dv9000...da#ht_500wt_935 Check this one, I replace LCDs, so I shop for such computers
