Lucky Sevens
There are 5 counties. Los Santos is by far the biggest in the game. Los Santos city is roughly 24 square miles and Los Santos county is roughly 50 square miles. So if LA County is 50 square miles, is the total area including the other 4 counties around 100-150 square miles? What are the other 4 counties? Los Santos city is 1/3 the entire map. The entire map is about 75- 80 square miles. The other 4 counties are small in comparison to Los Santos. Their names are unknown but they will be based off Orange, San Diego, San Bernardino and Ventura. San Fernando Valley the suburbs of L.A You know Fernando Valley was initially one of the names for GTA V. Expect to see miles of sprawling suburbia, like never seen in any past GTA. Aren't you the guy that claimed that GTA V will feature flying foxes and 2 cities based on San Bernadino and Tuscon? EDIT: Well, having San Fernando will make sense anyway. Yes, that is me. Tucson? You should of looked into it a little more before you decided to troll. In his original post he claimed there was no San Diego... guess he had a change of plan. No I didn't. I've told you all along Tucson (Arizona) was in the game. I told you there is a mission called Desert Bus which requires you to drive there. I told you the south east part of the map is Mexican border. Which is of course, San Diego. I think if you turn out to be wrong you should be perma-banned. I doubt Tucson will be in V. Lucky Stevens is an Aussie moron that knows virtually nothing about V or Southern California. Only L.A. and Riverside Counties were revealed in the trailer, yet Riverside County is conspicuously missing from his list of V locations (in which, apparently, Tuscon is included). While I wouldn't be surprised if they merged Riverside and San Bernardino into one super-large desert county (they are collectively known in Cali as the Inland Empire), the inclusion of Tuscon is just retarded. They wouldn't skip LV to include Tuscon as it is even farther from L.A. I will say this for Stevens' predictions: I do hope the San Fernando Valley is included as it is probably the largest and most famous suburban sprawl in America. It'd be a great place for a mall and running down L.A.'s world-famous "valley girls." LIKE, OH MY GAWD! Hey, no need to insult. Oh, and it Lucky 7's not Lucky Stevens, but anyhow. Back in the 80's there was a game released on Sega Mega Drive (I think) called Desert Bus. The objective was to drive a bus to Tucson from Nevada. For whatever reason, R* have parodied this, this is why Tucson is in the game. I've answered all your other queries in the San Diego thread. driftnslide
It'd be a lot cooler imo if they included San Diego, Riverside, and Orange counties than just LA county. Most of LA county is just urban sprawl, nothing interesting about it besides over 9 million people living there. I hope they pick and choose the cooler spots like they have in the past. , That would be awesome, especially for me, since I live in Riverside, and my hometown is SD...Oh man imagine driving through those places in a video game haha. Beez
Good god no. The majority of L.A. County is all the same. Just miles and miles of endless sprawl, the same strip malls at every corner, the same suburbs full of single level ranch houses that all have the same floor plan, the same chain restaurants and box stores. The "feel" of that can be accomplished in a much smaller area in-game.
Honest Bill
And they're all made out of ticky tacky... I think they will just pick out places of interest for us.. It will be Southern California but with all the interesting parts. Other parts will get smaller areas just to give authenticity and atmosphere. We will probably get a suburban valley type area, which will have lots of porn industries and stuff going on. There will also be smaller towns and counties. There will definitely not be 88 cities, i think that's obvious. I hope we will get San Fierro or San Diego. But we will definitely get a parody of Orange County, and San Fernando valley.. Those places are too famous to not be included. From those of us outside California, these are the area that you would think of when you imagine southern California, that and winding roads through rocky mountains.. Expect to see all of this, Rockstar always wants to get the feel right for everybody.. It will be an impression of Southern California but with the nondescript bits either scaled down or removed
meson1
I'm in two minds about this. You see, I just finished playing L.A.Noire which is, I have to say, absolutely superb. The map is brilliantly realised, and it reminds me of just how much of a massive sprawling city L.A. is. (I have visited and driven in L.A. before, some 20 years ago) But at the same time, practicality does weigh heavily against it. It takes a long time to drive any distance. Getting from downtown L.A. to Hollywood in the north is a helluva long drive even if you've got the sirens on and are blasting through junctions at a rate of knots. Los Santos needs to find a good balance. The city overall will have to be condensed. There's no getting around that. Distances have to be reduced in order for that playing area to be practical. On the other hand, I feel they still need to convey the feel of just what sort area L.A. covers by at least having some sprawl. The wide shots in the trailer do make it look like they have condensed the city down to some degree. We can only hope that it's not by too much. I do note though, that those wide shots centre on the high rise buildings of downtown and crop out much of what should be south L.A. So it's difficult to ascertain just how much else of L.S. there really is. Edited March 30, 2012 by meson1

I felt that Los Santos in GTA: San Andreas REALLY lacked that. I would like to see a lot of them, but not too much. A good balance. If R* excludes these parts, I'll be pretty pissed. Same Vegetation, same hill valley hill valley hill valley loops over and over again. same fields over and over, etc. with only the odd difference in shape. most of the houses looked the same, and the only real difference between the car dealerships was the logo on the building, and the cars inside. TDU2's major downfall was it's repetitive landscape and lack of unique/fun areas. Edited March 30, 2012 by superhobo666

SF is NoCal and LV isn't even in California I'm somewhat tired of hearing LV not in V. It's possible because this will be a re-imaging of Southern California. Considering it's likely that San Andreas will be one giant state with California and Nevada combined, Las Venturas could be included as part of the fictional region of "Southern San Andreas". Sorry for the bump, but just had to point out that it IS possible. Not likely, but possible.
Magic_Al
GTA maps are miniature game-board versions of the places they're based on. L.A. Noire did something GTA never does, which is use a real street map to lay out most of the game map. So while GTA V may or may not contain stuff from all over L.A. County, more likely it will contain stuff from all over Southern California. But it will be miniaturized, I'd guess around 15 square miles give or take 5, because Rockstar has to build all this stuff. When people talk about huge maps sometimes it's like they think it's just lifted from some database and not designed and built down to the last piece of trash.
