You are absolutely nuts if you think GTA V will have a larger map than True Crime: Streets of L.A. That game has a map over 17 times larger than the San Andreas map in GTA SA.

Now, the biggest map ever in a game is Daggerfall's map. It's about 260 times larger than the map in True Crime: Streets of L.A. That map is larger than the state of Georgia, and it's almost the size of my state (Wisconsin).

It definitely won't be bigger. In fact, it would be better if Los Santos was smaller than TC:LA, and here's the big reason why:

True Crime: LA literally was an exact-replica of Los Angeles. Every freeway, every goddamn suburban neighborhood. And that's what TC:LA mostly was: suburbs. And that's real-life L.A.: a bunch of suburbs.

It would be better if L.S. were a scaled down version of this. You know, suburbs here and there and other residential areas, but not excessively. It would be very boring to play in a suburbs majority map.

Also, it took VERY long to get to a certain part of a map. For example, in True Crime: LA, it took approx. 15-20 minutes to drive from Downtown to Santa Monica, like real-life. I'd prefer if it were shortened to 5 minutes.

Ah yes, True 'Grime'. I got both games right here. I had so much fun with em smile.gif

Anyway, True Crime are perfect games, nice story, very realistic and big maps, both had an awesome rapper in a side mission (in SoLA you could play as Snoop Doggy Dogg and in NYC as Redman! GTA HAS TO DO THIS LOL), slow motion shooting and other stuff like Max Payne has, 10 or so fighting styles, sh*tload of guns (about the same amount as SA, in NYC you could blow someones leg off and use it as a melee weapon xD and yet it wasn't banned or anything), different endings based on how you behave (like RDR's honor) and not just 2 (good/bad), but multiple. And NYC looks like a friggin PS3 game lol. And these are old PS2 games, with SoLA even being a 2003 release, with way more features than SA

Really, R* can learn from this (and SA did in most aspects, I guess that's why they put in that 'True Grime' billboard: to troll TC after they took some ideas lol). The only thing GTA is better at is gameplay and value after finishing the story IMO. Btw, wtf is going on with TC nowadays?

The map is humongous. It was a much better rendition of Los Angeles then Los Santos in GTA San Andreas. But that game obviously had 3 (watered down) cities. I also think LA Noire looked somewhat close. But LA was pretty boring in the 1940's without skyscrapers and highways and such. The driving gameplay/physics of True Crime was pretty mediocre though. Still a great game for its time and even then much better fighting mechanics then any GTA to date. Although, I really didn't miss it in GTA IV or EFLC. But it would be nice to literally kick some ass Kung Fu style cool.gif

Having read some comments I agree that "the bigger the map the better the game" rule usually doesn't work. I thought huge map sandbox/free roam games like Just Cause 2 and Far Cry 2 were boring fast with their copy paste environments suicidal.gif And even LA Noire got boring after finishing the story and side missions because of the flat repetitive scenery like I said because there weren't skyscrapers and much highways in the 1940's. Didn't help there weren't any fun activities either. Not even a randomized Vigilante, Gang Wars or Drug Wars like GTA IV and EFLC activity sad.gif

Also, I think it is still retarded Activision cancelled True Crime : Hong Kong. Luckily Square Enix bought the rights from them. So, we should see the game with a different name, Square Enix didn't buy the True Crime franchise name, somewhere this year !

Some trailers/clips:

Christopher Walken is EPIC win. And the guy at the end reminds me somewhat of Brucie biggrin.gif

Also Snoop Dogg als playable character! Great music, a cover/stealth system and nice fighting

Gameplay and Michelle Rodriguez inlove.gif as Rosie Velasco at the end

Awsome trailer True Crime : Hong Kong cool.gif

I wasn't really referring to you. I was referring to all of the people that voted that GTA V's map will be larger than True Crime: Streets of L.A.'s map.

@tenpennyisplainevil: I actually remember that True Crime: New York City has pretty damn good graphics for a PS2 game. It might not have graphics on par with Black, but they are impressive for a sandbox game on the PS2.

For the ignorant ones (not just the people who've never played TC, the "ignorant ones"), True Crimes: Streets of LA is fucking massive and actually has quite a bit in common with the real-life Los Angelas. It's best if you know what you're talking about before making ridiculous assumptions.

GTA V's map, as we saw with Liberty City, will be more detailed. Not more accurate. Though it will be more realistic in the buildings and little details we see, it will not be so massive, like in True Crime, that is takes the driving aspects fun out of it. True Crime games were plagued with street corners all looking the same, and the city looking rather bland and without little details. Thats not to say they were not detailed cities, they were. True Crime games were meant to mimic their realistic counterparts. GTA is only meant to mimic aspects of their real counterparts. It is because of this, I say it won't be "as realistic" in terms of size. GTA shrinks cities and adds portions of the city that people know about, in smaller enclaves, but still give the vibe of that district.

True Crime literally made street after street all look the same. So no, they will not be the same at all. True Crime has bigger maps, possibly more accurate in terms of size. GTA has smaller, more detailed maps with realistic ASPECTS.

The real question is - what map is bigger: LA Noire or TCLA?

I vote True Crime: SLA, it was f*cking huge back then and it is still f*cking huge compared to others. I'm surprised so few have played it since it was awesome despite the bugs.

From what I remember SOLA's map was massive. Bigger than any GTA map at the time, but it was incredibly repetitive and hard to memorize.

The beauty of GTA games is R* take real life cities and put their own twist on them. Typically I find games with real world maps The Getaway, the True Crime games, LA Noire etc really hard to memorize, but that's probably because I've never been to real life locations.

I'd be happy if LS was roughly the same size as GTA IV's LC. IMO GTA IV's LC is still the best example of a single city (Well Alderney is technically separate, but still) that has a perfect balance of size and detail.

I don't want some enormous city like SOLA that's repetitive and a pain in the ass to drive around.

How about compare with True Crime: Hong Kong? confused.gif

I am living in Hong Kong in my real life biggrin.gif

We could if Activision didn't throw it out of the door. It seems like all those guys care about now is pumping out a new CoD game every year (I almost want to consider Blizzard to be separate from Activision). It's sad that a once decent company has now become quite sub-par.

Anyways, were you originally a citizen of China? You're English seems pretty good.

EDIT: Sorry, I meant People's Republic of China.

Probably not, since a lot of people in Hong Kong know English (likely British Standard) due to the colonization of Hong Kong.

EDIT: Hong Kong, to a certain extent, is independent, since they have their own sporting teams and can make their own laws.

I agree with this. I remember playing The Getaway years ago on the PS2, and it annoyed me to no end that there was no in-game map (or it didn't show the player on the map, I can't remember which). You always started out in the same place, but you never knew where anything was. I'd see the same places constantly and wonder how the hell I'm supposed to find my way around. Same exact thing happened with TC, it was just too big. On the upside, it was nice (in The Getaway, at least) when you randomly stumbled upon a new area, especially when there was a hidden car there.

I also agree with the size of Los Santos being the same as IV's Liberty City.

True Crime: Streets of L.A.'s map is actually really freaking huge it can easily take over half an hour to travel from one side of the map to the other. The map is also replicated really closely (if not completely) on the city of Los Angeles down to the major streets and landmarks. Take note also that the ingame map for True Crime: Streets of L.A. doesn't display every single side-street like Grand Theft Auto's ingame maps do and people should've probably took note of that before they voted in the poll. The problem with having big maps like this in an open world game, any open world game; is that developers will tend to recycle objects such as buildings, quite extensively to save on disk space and problems such as a lack of vehicle and pedestrian variety (as well as vehicle density) is also quite noticeable.

I don't think that Grand Theft Auto V's maps will be quite as big as this though and it won't be quite replicate the city of Los Angeles down to the main streets. No Grand Theft Auto game has replicated any real-world city and I hope that it remains this way. As far as I see it, the bigger the map is, the less detailed it is going to be, and the less variety it is going to have and that was especially the case with True Crime: Streets of L.A. with repetition being a big problem with the game. Another thing to take note is that True Crime: Street's of L.A.'s map is 240 square miles as compared to GTA: San Andreas's 13.9 square mile map. I don't think Rockstar North is a developer that would sacrifice game quality in favour for a ridiculously huge map that has vast empty (useless) spaces or areas that look exactly the same as other areas.

I have a strong feeling that V is going to be the best GTA5 we've seen so far. Rockstar has the physics, graphics, and looks from IV, and the 'perfected' gameplay from Red Dead Redemption (featuring realistic wildlife). The RAGE engine is going to be maxed out, so get ready.

Yea. You guys are correct. We are forced to study English when we are young, but I love it.

Hopefully GTA V will be better than True Crime: Hong Kong. biggrin.gif

Map comparison for anyone interested, cool thread.

In the true crime series, you can see a lot of places, but they are all boring and 99% look the same, like real life really. boring repeated maps, but somewhat accurate Layout (layout is the keyword: Top down it's shaped like LA, but all buildings and scenery besides a few landmarks are identikit repeated "what is probably there" generic models). VERY low detail, VERY uninteresting. The only thing it had going for it was that it was huge, but it was only useful for random crimes, which were annoying after a short while. If you thought Roman and Dwayne were annoying, you ain't seen nothing until you get APB's in this game for random crimes every 3 minutes and suffer consequences to your character if you don't do anything. Some of them are VERY far away from where you are, so you can go do one, and get stuck doing hundreds of them trying to get back to missions tounge.gif

Huge, boring, play a few missions you played the whole game (except for the final boss which is "wtf" moment when the game stops being a crime action game and starts being a fantasy dragon fight, similar to mario64/zelda64 and newer battles against bowser/dungeon bosses, but with guns and a dragon instead of a sword/ability to spin throw). Not even 1/10th the visual identity/variety of GTA III's liberty city, let alone SA's LA/LS.

If you collected all the bones on that map, you got to play the rest of the game as Snoop Dogg.

GTA and RDR games might have slightly bigger maps, but this is pretty close if you compare closely:

True Crimes LA was a very big map yes it looks small but is was not small at all
