KanapkaPoland
I can't understand what's so cool about GIANT maps. JC2 map is giant but how boring it is... San Andreas' map was smaller but WAY much more fun.
RockStarNiko
If you stand on top of a skyscraper in GTA IV you can see the edge of the map in all directions I hope in GTA V you cannot see the edge of the map, even if you fly to maximum height in helicopter
r0eladn
Well just as with the male genitalia size, bigger is not always better. GTAIII its map was fun to me due some aspects, such as knowing the entire map by heart. GTAIV was a lot bigger, i have put the same or even more hours into GTAIV but i still dont know the entire map by heart. So at first i always thought bigger would be better but i am starting to think thats not always the case. Therefore i am glad that i do not have to make the decision of how big GTAV its map is going to be. : )
ryan_J
lets have one 10 or even 20 times as large at JC2. 8,000 square miles, that probably would be about 20 GB right there Mother of god, have you played Just Cause 2? Maybe V should be twice the size of JC2 but thats the maximum, 20 times, now thats just unimaginably huge !
DeconstruKt
I just found a video of someone running from one side of LA Noire to other He was running/sprinting and it took 40 minutes!!!!! So LA Noire map i HUGE compared to IV and SA Rockstar said GTA V will be the largest game they have made So this means it will be larger than LA Noire?!?! Link to the video? ZZCOOL
Los Santos bigger than IV's Liberty City? Is that even possible? Of course it is. Like I've said in multiple threads, the new LS will have a strong focus on roads, streets and carparks etc. Much of Los Santos' area will be dedicated to wide, multi-laned roads and freeways. This leaves increased area for more city area to compensate. Why did San Andreas feel so huge? Well, here's your answer in a nutshell. The draw distance conceals the true size of the map. When you fly in a plane, speeds are kept proportionate to the map size. Who else thought the Hydra in San Andreas seemed slower than it looked? question where did you get that entire san andreas picture as i took it but it's not from the link i uploaded it nothing to care about just curious

73duster
Actual size is not as important as the FEEL of being large. While there is plenty of evidence of these other games actually having larger maps, San Andreas still feels pretty large, even when compared to these bigger environments. Just Cause is IMMENSE in sheer size, but it just seems like a dull and repetitive cut and paste job. It reminds me of old cartoons like the Flintstones, where you get a side shot of a character running, while you see the same background scrolling by every 3 seconds. Instead of enjoying the sights, you end up looking for ways to get from a to b as quickly as possible. THIS is what seperates Rockstar's open world environments, from most other games. In Rockstar's sandbox, the map is the hero. With other games, the map is simply secondary.
Magic_Al
If you stand on top of a skyscraper in GTA IV you can see the edge of the map in all directions I hope in GTA V you cannot see the edge of the map, even if you fly to maximum height in helicopter Based on the maximum flying altitude in GTA SA, I calculate your request would require a map size no less than 13,232 square miles. Capricornus
Granted that, for some reason, LV and SF are not in the game, LS should be bigger than the three cities combined from GTA SA. The surrounding countryside should be 2 times bigger than the countryside in SA. More than likely I am asking for way too much but damn that would be awesome. MotjoBoss
I think it's gonna be the same size city as LC and a RDR countryside. But that's not what this tread about, It's about what I want. I want a big map as JC2 and more detailed then GTA4... but thats impossible.
MotjoBoss
I understand SA is smaller, but why did it feel so big? Again, having gone back to play SA.. the game felt massive, especially driving from Los Santos to SF. Is this due to the "in-game" speed? Because of the empty space. And you compared it back in the days with VC and gtaIII. I gues if you play it now you'll notice it's pretty small.

menny
Some days ago,I was watching some NFS The Run walktrough, and at the beginning you start from San Fran. Once you have escaped from San Francisco, you are on countryside and here I noticed thw wind turbines seen on the trailer. I don't know if there some on the Countrydise of Los Angeles, but maybe there's a possibility for San Francisco... I don't know.

V 9 L U K 3 4 V
It needs to be f*cking huge i mean like the biggest map they have ever done. Big enough to keep us entertained for a very long time. Why is most people saying it needs to be more city than country are you insane more country more towns more villages more everything this needs to be rockstars biggest map to date and im a strong believer in that it will be

The maximum draw distance is a mod for the PC version, and that's what these screenshots are taken from.

thebestgameever
I hope R* do make a massive map, especially if airplanes are added. I HATE how the airplanes in SR3 are very very slow, because of the small map.
Captain VXR
New York = 468.9 square miles Los Angeles = 502.693 square miles If their in game proportions to each other are realistic, then LS will be slightly larger than LC (not counting Alderney) So to be the 'largest map' they've made so far then either the countryside will be vast and/or there will be other cities. Either way, it should be awesome

DeconstruKt
After watching a ton of youtube videos of Cartel vs the Mexican army and the war down in Mexico, I really hope they add San Diego and a Mexican border in the game. The mafia and "ghetto" life style has been done in other GTA games.. but Cartel/Drug traffiking hasn't been done too much, and this is one of the major issues plaguing southern california and mexico, it would be fantastic. gzam1312
Vice City probably had the smallest map but was arguably the best GTA because each area had a purpose. GTA 4's massive Liberty City just felt like city block after city block after city block. The secret is variety, a mix of countryside (mountains, plains, forests, rivers, desert) and a major city with regional towns dotted inbetween - it sounds like GTA 5 is going to nail this mix

I think San Andreas had the best map. It was FAR bigger, and was more diverse. I think that what made Vice City so special was the 80's setting, and not so much the map. zeldatra
Am I the only one who thinks Ganton should be its own town, like it's real life counterpart? And I saw Mount Chilliad in the trailer, and if I remember correctly that was south of San Fierro. Doesn't mean they won't reposition it, but still.
