sminem
Looks like Grand Theft Auto III and GTA: Vice City are headed to PlayStation 3. A new batch of ESRB rating recently came out. Among the listed are the coveted crown jewels that are GTA III and VC. Source: here
Tycek
Interesting. I wonder if they are going to add them to Store or sell on one disk. I would like R* to make GTA V not to convert old games (it doesn't matter if they were briliant) to PS3, especially if I have both III and VC for PS2 and PC. The teams that port the older games likely have nothing at all to do with the development of GTAV, so it really shouldn't make a difference. DeeperRed
I wonder if its just a straight up port, i.e. same textures resolution or have they put some work into it. I am going to go with the former option but this is Rockstar so you never know.

The porting won't be done by Rockstar North themselves - they get one of the smaller studios to do it. No mention of the Xbox 360 - that does fill me with the sad. darthYENIK
If you really want to play on Xbox 360, You can play the original Xbox versions still. I play GTAIII this way.
Tycek
You're probably right about outsourcing in this case, but for me it's still waste of time and resources. GTA III and VC are so popular that almost everybody played the sh*t out of them already. Don't get me wrong, I really like them, but I personally won't be interested as I still got my PS2 to play them and in addition I got them on PC for modding. I would be interested if it would be game that I didn't play yet, because even if they will remade it in HD it will be game I know and remember very well. mattymcs
Its just going to be a straight up port, if it was a HD remake then they would be making a big song and dance about it. Personally I want HD remakes of III, VC and SA just as much as I want a new GTA.

It hasn't officially been announced yet. The ESRB rating is barely an announcement for what is really to come. It's being re-published by Sony, now, look up previous PS2 games that have been re-published by Sony on the PS3, what do they have in common? They've all appeared as "PS2 Classics" which means the game won't be changed from the original, just Emulated and Upscaled. If you want proof, just look up anyn title that's currently on the PS2 Classics Label and check the ESRB for them, such as God Hand, etc, which is published by Capcom, re-published by Sony on the PS3 under PS2 Classics. So, don't get your hopes up guys.

If it was coming in HD they would have told us well ahead of any ratings approval thingy that happens just before things get released. It will be up in a month or less. bluesboyjr
I wasn't expecting a HD release - I'm just hoping they'll make the games available to download. At the moment, you can download GTA SA off of Xbox Live, but you can't get III or VC. Don't know how the PS3 is for things like that.
meta187
I'd def pick them up if they were available for PS3, it'd give me a reason to actually play the damn thing. ~ Studio: Q-13 Lounge / Q:13 Warrior Tunes / Interweb Chex Mix, yo.~
SmC12
They already did it with San Andreas on xbox 360. It was just the original game but with some improvements. Textures were a little better and so was lighting, probably just so that it runs smoothly on 360 as it said "This game has been made specifically for xbox 360". Most likely the exact same thing with this. Good idea, most people have sold their old consoles, doing this with all the GTA's would be awesome. AlexGTAGamer
Even though I've got GTA III and V.C for the PS2, I would still buy the games again for PS3. I wonder how long it'll be before they bring back other GTAs for the PS3 and XBOX 360? Edited January 24, 2012 by AlexGTAGamer

SaintJimmy
Didn't this exact same situation happen quite a while ago? CryptReaperDorian
I wouldn't really care for GTA III and GTA VC to be ported to the PS3 ever since I played GTA VC and GTA SA on PC (I'm still looking for a PC version of GTA III). If any of my fellow console users have a somewhat decent PC, then I highly suggest getting these games for it. I'd say GTA SA on PC is slightly better than the console version, and GTA VC on PC is about a dozen times better than the console version (the camera and aiming is completely different along with being a huge upgrade). I'm guessing the PC version of GTA III is possibly about the same as the PC version of GTA VC.

Slamman
Hoping for PSVita versions of older GTAs, as GTA III's Liberty City needs the latest HD revisions to GTA to make it more enjoyable, you know you'd play it, folks! Even if it were the familiar game, just everything graphically and improved ENGINE wise

I never buy anything online unless I have a redeem code card (I don't mess around with debit cards or credit cards yet). However, Valve won't even release any of those f*cking things for Steam. Aside from that, I prefer a physical copy. I used to see GTA III for PC a few years ago at used game stores, but I haven't found a copy for a long time now.
