rome7
It was one of the lamer upload sites, it doesn't affect me. But if they take down Mediafire I'll be pissed. being able to download an xbox 360 game under 2hours wasnt lame. I'm truly gonna miss that site
tubbs51
So what about the users that paid for premium accounts? What about the millions of legitimate files, many of which may have only existed online on Megaupload, that are now permanently wiped? Considering how much I relied on Megaupload day-to-day (and no, not for piracy), I'd say I'm more than a little pissed. I was one of those premium subscribers. thankfully it was only $25.... still though i hope those Mega execs go free and Mega gets put back up... No, they aren't. In fact good trackers can go as fast as your ISP allows. Torrent websites don't usually have rules on what content is allowed to be shared, mainly because the files aren't actually hosted on the site, but uploading sites have rules for copyrighted content, you aren't supposed to upload it there. Rhoda
In my experience, torrents have always been painfully slow. Maybe I was using programs wrong, or trackers, or just having bad luck. I said goodbye to torrents a long time ago. I was familiar with MegaUpload but I can't say I used it. Like many others, I'm a MediaFire man, but I'm no pirate by nature. I buy most of my music. To me, I feel I gain value. I'll only download rarities or albums I can't find. Usually I've supported the artist through other means (buying other material) so I don't feel too bad about it all. It's when you see rappers sitting on piles of cash that makes me chuckle. I'm pretty shocked at how much this is just a blanket solution though, and how fast it's happened. 2012 is going to be an interesting year for the internet, and you can take that as a good or a bad thing. One thing I do believe is that this time next year we're going to see a different way of sharing information and a different browsing experience, whether we like it or not. vertical limit
Check the seeds and peers. Seeds>Peers, that is how it should be if you want to get a high speed one. I am going in a torrent marathon in case they stop it as well. I lost respect for EA when they supported the bill.
Rhoda
Oh, I always picked high seeds>leech ratio, but I always got lumped with a download that often took days. After a marathon like that, you don't really feel like seeding. Maybe I was the cancer killing the world of torrents. Good riddance you might say. Besides, it didn't really benefit me - I'm not a big gamer, I don't mod, I don't watch many movies that I don't already own, I have no interest in music compilations and TV shows in batches of series just take up too much on my hard-drive. The last thing I downloaded on a torrent was a Laurel & Hardy film collection. I didn't even watch them, but bought them on DVD a few weeks later. But I digress. Lithium
the government needs to realize they are about half of a century late on taxing the internet. I agree. They have to stick their noses in to everything they can.

3niX
Well... This needs to be a poll. What would you prefer: A) A government with the power to control what you see and do on the internet? B) A rogue group of hackers who [probably] could and would completely dismantle the internet at the drop of a hat? Do you know what the worst thing is? The real option is C) all of the above. Option B any day... at least (usually) hackers dont have further leverage outside the internet and completely dismantling the internet would be less likely than the A option. lt_yao
I just am baffled as to how they determined on what the freaking loss of potential income was. Potential income my ass. I can't say I used MegaUpload that much, mainly for downloading game mods that were uploaded there. This is a huge dickmove, feel for the people that got screwed over, and I bet this is just the start of all things. Vanilla Shake
What a f*cking mood killer. I used that site so much. This SOPA thing is really getting on my nerves. My sentiments exactly, bro. No one can 'dismantle' the internet, not even some kids so called anonymous, and about the government...well: SOPA can't do anything to stop TPB. Worst case we'll change top level domain from our current .org to one of the hundreds of other names that we already also use.

Twang.
I lost respect for EA when they supported the bill. I've never had respect for EA and it doesn't surprise me at all that they support this bill. I used MegaUpload a lot (admittedly for less-than-legal purposes). Of the big three, I used MU probably the second most. Interestingly, while this pisses me off, it doesn't hurt me or stop me from doing what I do. Every bit of pirated music on MU is probably also on Rapidshare, Mediafire, Filesonic, Fileserve, Hotfile, etc, etc. This really only hurts the people who use it for legitimate purposes. Interesting how everything the government does manages to accomplish that.
Garfield 2
Good news! Hi everyone! A big hurrah to you!!!!! We’ve won for now -- SOPA and PIPA were dropped by Congress today -- the votes we’ve been scrambling to mobilize against have been cancelled. The largest online protest in history has fundamentally changed the game. You were heard. On January 18th, 13 million of us took the time to tell Congress to protect free speech rights on the internet. Hundreds of millions, maybe a billion, people all around the world saw what we did on Wednesday. See the amazing numbers here and tell everyone what you did. This was unprecedented. Your activism may have changed the way people fight for the public interest and basic rights forever. The MPAA (the lobby for big movie studios which created these terrible bills) was shocked and seemingly humbled. “‘This was a whole new different game all of a sudden,’ MPAA Chairman and former Senator Chris Dodd told the New York Times. ‘[PIPA and SOPA were] considered by many to be a slam dunk.’” “'This is altogether a new effect,' Mr. Dodd said, comparing the online movement to the Arab Spring. He could not remember seeing 'an effort that was moving with this degree of support change this dramatically' in the last four decades, he added." Tweet with us, shout on the internet with us, let's celebrate: Round of applause to the 13 million people who stood up - #PIPA and #SOPA are tabled 4 now. #13millionapplause
