Icarus
What really shocked me was how New Zealand gave up its own citizens for prosecution so easily. What a disgusting government NZ has. The US Government probably threatened them with some kind of sanction. The United States is very good at strong-arming.
buzbegone
What if SOPA and PIPA are rejected altogether and don't make it into law? Megaupload will still be down and leave a sh*tty smear on the US government.

Jake
I'm just waiting on anonymous to get a little more organized and turn in to fight club. Maybe they'll finally do what the government can't and fix our economy. I'm waiting for the same thing. Also, Anonymous rocks.
unopescio
you know it would be a bunch of 15 years olds showing up in guy fawkes masks and getting wrecked by one 40 year old dude.
leik oh em jeez!
I meant more as in organizational level. Not literal fighting, though that would be hilarious.
Jake
I'd like to see who they really are. They like to make everything seem so epic. Perhaps they work for the Government themselves? Must be some sort of conspiracy. I'm interested to see how this rolls out. I don't have a good feeling about it though.
Gtaghost22
Today is megaupload, tomorrow is mediafile, then it's 4shared....... we CANNOT LET THIS HAPPEN PEOPLE!! mrpain
For me it's all gravy unless IsoHunt goes down. Then I'll join the Stormcloak anonymous rebellion. Oh f*ck no! That's my lurking grounds! This is really sad news. For the first time, the Internet is terrified!

Akavari
I'm sure once these bills pass, we're gonna be seeing sh*t like this every week. Although, the fact that Anonymous is organized and dedicated enough to retaliate against the feds within hours of this is reassuring. I just wish I could have been one of the hackers making that sh*t happen. I don't know much about the politics of it all, but I can't say I support any of it! Check out my spoiler/censorship activism!
TEoS
Kind of surprised that all this Big Brother bullsh*t is starting over something inane as downloading music and films illegally. This is not the picture 1984 painted for me.

Fozzy Fozborne
So hasn't The Pirate Bay been fined, sued, shut down, cease-and-desist[ed?], had their assets taken, and their owners sent to prison? Guess what? It's still there...
Sunrise Driver
Now they are officially worse than China. Corrupt and buls**t country. Where citizens are being imprisoned for some s**t. So hasn't The Pirate Bay been fined, sued, shut down, cease-and-desist[ed?], had their assets taken, and their owners sent to prison? Guess what? It's still there... Exactly. Similar even bigger and better site will reappear and will be based in some free and really democratic countries like Sweden, Holland, Iran etc. Edited January 20, 2012 by Street Mix

Andrew
Sounds about right, the corrupt politicians pandering to the rich media industry and their butt hurt cries of piracy and how it's loosing them too much money. If the media industry would finally get it into their heads that physical media distribution is on it's way out, and people now want their media right now, not having to wait and visit the shops or pay an extortionate amount. Megaupload and sites like it will be back, they'll just move out of the US and host themselves in a country that the US cannot touch.

Almost seems like that's what the government wants.

The US / UK and even the EU governments are going to damage or destroy their internet industries if they continue down this path of pandering to the media companies. They'll shut down any legitimate file hosting site for the fear that it could contain copyrighted files.
Tyler
I find it quite sad, in an almost cliché mindset I suppose, that in the age where we can cultivate and expand our culture and understanding of the world around us with a truly magnificent tool [dat internet] we still have people who would rather be a few dollars richer than live in a world full of people who share common interests. There's always people who wish to control others. I accept that, I mean it's encoded in to our nature to want to control others. But I honestly believe we can move past that thought if we would simply stop giving a f*ck about being a bit richer than the people next to us. Fozzy Fozborne
This needs to be a poll. What would you prefer: A) A government with the power to control what you see and do on the internet? B) A rogue group of hackers who [probably] could and would completely dismantle the internet at the drop of a hat? Do you know what the worst thing is? The real option is C) all of the above. anus
f*ck yeah! I'm with ya. ^ Oh and I dedicate this to the US government: Since 1985 motherf*ckers! (Not that I'm a pirate, just trying to show how much more powerful PEOPLE are compared to even the biggest governments). Doesn't seem like the US is gonna stop pissing off the rest of the world any time soon. And Americans wonder why so many countries hate the US.
