VLongo92
For those of us that would from time to time, pretend they were driving realistically, the traffic signals were a bit of an issue. They were on the wrong f*cking side of the road. Well I am proud to inform all of you that after trailer session #4,654 they have been spotted in the correct location. This leads me to believe that more features that correlate to realism have been implemented but yet still have the humor (for example look at the crosswalk figure) Rockstar perfected the correct location of traffic signals after all. JoshGTAfreak
I just hope traffic light patterns make more sense. Also, I hope they don't make all the AI drivers go insane every time I stop at a red light. You have to visit a big city like New York City or Chicago to know why. In cities filled with pissed off people, there will always be somebody frustrated enough to start honking at traffic. Sometimes they probably ram other vehicles, and the only thing that accomplishes is slowing down the traffic even more. Then again, everybody is f*cking stupid enough to leave their homes at the same damn time (probably 8:00 A.M.). If you know the traffic will be bad, then isn't it a smarter idea to leave the house a bit earlier? On topic: I'll have to look at the GTA V trailer again. I know the incorrect placement of traffic lights was an ongoing design detail within the GTA franchise, and it sounds like R* finally corrected that. I really hope they did since it was annoying when you couldn't see a traffic light too well when you wanted to play in a more "civilized" manner. Tipper
I don't remember experiencing that in IV. That said I usually play the music volume higher than the sound effects. Maybe I should play again and check. So I don't know about honking, but I never got rammed when stopping at a red light. If that happenned to you, are you sure you stopped by braking progressively (so not pressing the trigger all the way)? Now about traffic light position, I never noticed it. Probably because in Europe, traffic lights are at this side of the road, so it felt so normal it didn't bug me. But yeah, it'd be more realistic to place them on the other side. Vanilla Shake
Being someone who enjoys just cruising around the city, taking in the atmosphere and whatnot, I too am glad that they seem to have finally put traffic lights in the right places, although their placement in past GTAs never really bothered me that much. Cars ramming me from behind when I'm stopped at a red light in GTA IV still irks me to no end. As for the honking, that's typical in a major city that is full of vehicular and pedestrian traffic, especially New York. Seeing as how people in LA are more reliant on cars than public transportation like in NY, you can expect people to be honking their horns whilst stopped in a jam. More realistic and it gives off a bit of that living, breathing, big city vibe. All of the ambient city-like noises in the background really made Liberty City sound like it was NY. VLongo92
wrong side of the road? What do you mean? You mean like the australian way, across the intersection? I keep forgetting about how many people here are from the UK. Let me elaborate if I wasn't clear: Rockstar puts the traffic light on your side of the intersection. The traffic light is literally right above your roof if you stop at the cross line. In the US, the light is facing you above the cross line opposite side of the intersection. I'm not sure how it is anywhere else but now it is correct to the US' laws. I have lived in Los Angeles for almost 20 years and I have a firm grip on most of the locations and laws, just in case we need to bridge the culture gap. Yes, it's like that here in Australia (and the UK I'll basically confirm). The traffic lights are always on the opposite end of the intersection - doesn't really make sense if they expect you to be looking directly vertically up when you should be a cautious driver by keeping your eye on the road! lol. That said, I've never noticed it in GTA until now... so it's pretty awesome it's even more realistic. For some reason I've always wanted to be able to put my blinkers on. I'm from the UK & we have no traffic lights that go over us whatsoever. All of our traffic lights are on poles at the side of the lane. Sometimes they're only beside the line where you stop, & sometimes they're on the other side too. There are many places where the traffic lights are right next to the stop line & not ahead of you. Barguast
In my experience, it's normally both - you have lights on the line (where you stop) to forewarn drivers, and then a second set beyond the intersection for easy view. I've been driving for about 10 years. That said, I have seen some weird and wonderful set ups in my time. It seems to be regional.
Cole Phelps Gta
As long as i don't get a wanted level for speeding throw them on a red light it's all good. I've tryed driving normally in gta games it's fun for like 2 minutes then i get bored and drive like an assclown again. I just find it more fun driving at a high speed throw traffic I get road rage so bad when i crash my car though. I know it's my fault but i don't care it pisses me off. I was always amazed at first at how realistic IV was: Niko turns the steering wheel properly, you can see him beep the horn, some people don't wear seatbelts, Niko runs down stairs sideways (kinda). Just little things like that really impressed me. The sh*t that pissed me off & made me think that R* were a bit lazy I thought 'f*ck it, that'll do' were sh*t like crappy AI at traffic lights, by the emergency services, by cabbies. It'd be nice in GTA V if AI was actually intelligent. People didn't just drive off after crashing, people didn't walk past someone who'd just been shot, the police didn't mow down people on the pavement. But I guess that all of that is meant for another thread.

dodgerfan001
In Gta IV they were realistic when it came to the style of traffic light that they actually have in NYC. boxmonster
You are asking me that in a topic about traffic lights? Yeah, it just gives the game same stupid arcadish feel the older GTAs had when you crashed into the poles. One few rare occasions in GTASA they wouldn't break yet topple over and I would think "wow that looks cool" and wonder why such a little dumb thing looked so cool-because it was realistic! Imagine traffic getting tangled in that mess, I mean, c'mon!
HOTMILFDAD
Even though this is a small detail, I would love to see the traffic lights have a correct pattern this time around. I do love pretending to be a normal citizen and drive around peacefully. Many times have I had people rear end me and constantly honk or run a clear red light. Also, I would love to see some police actions be taken when a NPC violates traffic, not you. That'd add some realism into the game without being overly annoying!
