bluesboyjr
The multiplayer in GTA IV was as basic as multiplayer comes - just your run-of-the-mill game modes all set on the same map, where the only form of progress was getting more clothes. That wouldn't have taken anything from the singleplayer. While I am expecting much, much more in the way of online multiplayer in GTA V, Rockstar would never sacrifice the singleplayer. Personally, I never felt that AC:B's singleplayer was particularly worse than AC2's.

IV was not hindered by MP and nor will V be. In some cases MP does enhance the game for the better, GTA being one of them.
tenpennyisplainevil
they said that they're going to improve multiplayer, that "bold new direction" also referred to multiplayer. but considering they have an engine ready, they had enough time for multiplayer and singleplayer. so its ok, i guess
GANGSTA26-VERCETTI
I doubt that would happen, but if i was a rich man i would pay rockstar to come up with an only multiplayer gta I was hooked on gtaIV's multiplayer. I could not put the damn control down. Even with its simplicity, i had the greatest time of my life when it comes down to gaming. I would troll, gather a crew, this and that. I would always win every gta race, and destroying those swat members with my goons was always fun. As soon as i get my hands on my copy of V, you will all most like see me in the online servers for a week straight. Tie my girlfriend to my bed so she doesn't leave, gather and store food and a hot plate in my room with lots of water, red bull, and marijuana's along with beer. I have a back up ps3 just in case my main one blows out on me. I love to drag out the story line, just to make the experience more succulent and much more surprising. If anything, multiplayer was ruined by the single player. Gosh you got my panties all wet just thinking about the realistic chaos that me and my friends will ensue online. C2H5OH
You´re so right man, Grand Theft Auto is all about the singleplayer experience! I remember when i played GTA IV too much online, it took away all the magic when i played the singleplayer because the city felt so dead after you played free mode. So f*ck the multiplayer! They need to make it more basic than it already was in IV! Edited January 19, 2012 by C2H5OH

Thats no reason to take MP out, thats reason to better SP. I also had some of my best ever MP experiances on IV, be that DM, FM or co-op missions. I want it all back and better. GiantsPride
I don't think it will ruin Single player at all. I still enjoy playing GTA IV multiplayer to this day. I'm expecting big things from GTA V multiplayer now that the map is "huge" and Jets are back

x kgSully x
TBH every GTAs story was pretty good, Multiplayer is kind of a bonus, beat singleplayer play multiplayer. Adds so much more to the games life. Now games like TES you can't add multiplayer, the games are too good for multiplayer and it would ruin the entire game IMO. I get your point though

GTA V will be epic no matter what. yes, but will we ever have the amount of features SA had? You have to think that with SA they had III and VC to work from, the engine was inplace and needed little to no tweaking. Had the experiance to make the map and fit in features that worked with the engine. With IV it was built practically from scratch, redesigned/heavily moddified engine, now they need to find things that work with the engine or make things to work with it. Now if they've made more tweaks to it then they're gonna have to play around with things to see what works and what doesn't all over again, but they already have alot inplace because of IV. IV was kind of like a prototype for this GEN like III was for that GEN and they will build upon the games which are in the same generation using the one/s before. GTA V will be epic no matter what. yes, but will we ever have the amount of features SA had? If V is truly R*'s biggest and most ambitious game, then yes. I believe it will be. Even if SP has slightly less features than SA, the MP should more than make up for it. V will deliver, the only question is when.

Chukkles
If they Red Deadify mp in V then free mode will be ruined. See I wouldn't mind teaming up to clear out a crack house or mob hideout. I liked the posse thing and the missions you could choose to do or not. Though I would like DM and any capture the flag types things to be seperate from free mode. I never liked how someone could just start up a Land Grab without the rest of the players wanting to do it.

I don't care what they do to competitive modes, I just hope they don't ruin free mode by making you level up just to get weapons. I support them to bring gang hideouts though, but make them more interesting since they got boring after the first time playing it.

It especially got bad when a whole bunch of people had overpowered weapons while you didn't have them. People would always grief you until the "Friendly Mode" was added to Red Dead Redemption. Honestly, I hope R* balances all of the modes so nobody would just join a game (ranked or unranked) only to piss off everybody.
azali10
If they Red Deadify mp in V then free mode will be ruined. That would make it better. In red dead, the gameplay was smoother more refined, you could group up with friends, clear out forts, the weapons unlock system was better than picking them up, you kept weapons when you died, and the spawns were much better. One thing that bothered me in gta is I would die and spawn half way across the map which delayed my revenge on whoever killed me and slowed down firefights. That's my opinion. Completing certain objectives (like gang hideouts) awards you powerful weapons that last throughout the session. You also get to keep the weapons you earn as you level up. RDR's free roam was way more addictive because of this, your session means something. IV's free roam is just the constant hell of spawning and getting capped in the face (which is also awesome, only I want cooperation as well as senseless mayhem in V's free roam). I'll give you that one. Red Dead Redemption's Free Mode wasn't too bad when it griefing as it was for GTA IV. Also, R* implemented more anti-griefing measures within the months after the game was released. We saw the addition of things like teleporting away from those players along with "Friendly Mode". As long as the anti-griefing features are in GTA V from the start, I won't really complain too much.

Grand_Theft_Peanut
Considering this is their most ambitious game yet i believe they are really going to surprise a lot of people and all the features people want but dont think will be in the game will be happy coz they will include EVERYTHING and make MP great along with SP. It has to be at least 3x times better than the last GTA because another one wont come out for several years so it has to satisfy us for many years to come. Going by that logic, it will be a really good game with a lot of replay value and a lot of features
Durden
The only thing Multiplayer would ruin is my social life, when I'm locked in my room playing it for hours on end. I don't know why, but my all-time dream in any GTA is to play free mode with like 8 friends, find a limo, and start a police chase. 8 guys shooting from 1 car? Fckin Badass! Am i right?
