Hell, I thought GTA:V was going to be announced at E3 back in '10, so I thought the announcement was a bit....late. I couldn't care less about them trying to sell MP3; I don't like the fact that they used GTA:V's hype to try and boost the hype for MP3. As far as I'm concerned, the sooner MP3 comes out, the better.

Besides, didn't they say that GTA:V was nearing completion? I don't think GTA:IV was anywhere near complete when Microsoft had announced it back in '06, but I could be wrong.

Is there really any substantial evidence that GTA V is being used to sell/hype MP3? I mean other then forum speculation. I think MP3 has its own merits and is being pushed on its own volition. Also as I stated earlier at this point we have no idea when V will be released. People are speculating it being released a year or so from now or even later.

Aside from common sense, the amount of views on MP3's trailers and the amount of attention that was given to MP3 after GTA:V's trailer was released. That's about it. I mean, you can sit here and believe that MP3 would have gotten that attention on its own, but even I couldn't do that.

Yeah but it is most likely a slight nudge of interest that was added. I doubt it has some radical impact on sales or interest in the game. Just because the trailer got extra views does not necessarily mean that it counts for anything.

Overall I do not see how GTA V has anything to do with MP3 other then the fact that the developer is R*

Are you telling this to yourself to calm down? Do you believe this?

Sure the GTA V trailer came out to draw attention to the R* site and to MP3, but even if GTA players and MP players were completely different people, you cannot ignore the facts of the R* release history:

GTA IV (time between first screenshot/trailer/official info) - 1 year (even more) until RELEASE

Red dead Redemption (same)

L.A. Noire (same)

Max Payne 3 (oh...even more)

Agent (...more...)

GTA V . . .?

Do you, or anyone seriously expects the game to launch just in MAY 2012? That's ridiculous.

don't get me wrong, I'd love it, I wouldn't mind getting the game just today. But this won't happen.

Not really. I assumed we were strictly talking about views on youtube. Television advertising is a whole different monster. Timing really has no bearing to the fact that someone saw GTA V on Youtube and noticed the related MP3 video to its right.

The trailer released when it did to keep the shares up before the financial report. It's all about damage limitation and shareholders now, its got such a huge business.

All this info drought is just R* and T2 dancing around their f*cked up release schedules.

@Meezarawcks: Joe is likening prime time tv slots, not literally talking about tv advertising....the main hype starts on the R* newswire and spreads to youtube thereafter.

I think the whole things that annoys fans is the fact that they are soo secretive about this game. I wouldnt want them to whore it out but just some basic information wouldnt hurt. I mean its heres a trailer you been waiting 4 years for but we aint gonna tell you a rough date of release nor are we gonna tell you a platform. Oh and the official announcment leaves a lot to be annoyed about they havnt said anything except what a politician say when they are trying to avoid a sticky subject. They have not made it clear just talked around the subject and ignored it. There is such a thing as being too secretive and after 4 years its a bit too much. They released soo much info about GTA San Andreas it never killed the game for me least I knew what I was getting. Rather then not hearing a thing for a long time and getting a game that is a complete let down. Prime example GTA IV was a let down for a lot of fans the released info for that game 6 months before its release date except it got delayed for 6 months. Its just like saying here you go fans GTA V does exist now wait a long time for new info and maybe a longer time to a release date if it doesnt get delayed.

Lets look at the truth about the whole Max Payne 3 and shareholder quick release. They released a trailer dragged millions of fans onto there website. Shares went up and more people watched the Max Payne 3 trailer during that whole time there hasnt been one single bit of info about GTA V. So what does that do it brings people back everyday to the R* website while they keep pushing Max Payne 3 I mean look at there site its overloaded with Max Payne 3 and not one bit of info for GTA V. Even with GTA IV there was magazine information one month after the first trailer GTA V not one bit of info. To be honest i dont think we will see a thing about GTA V till after Max Payne 3 is released. If GTA V is to be released in November 2012 that means 6 months before the November release date they can start pushing info. Meaning it doesnt mess up Max Payne 3 sales or the release of Max Payne 3.

In the end fans are getting restless they have waited along time for GTA thats the only game shareholders and fans care about. Oh and the fact that its set in Los Santos San Andreas the game fans loved so much and still do. After all we as fans are paying for this game we wanna see more not wait months for info because R* tells us it makes it magic. Because for some fans it might not even be worth its waiting gold.

If i didn't believe it I would not have posted what I said. Please read my whole post instead of quoting one part and taking it out of context.

Many have already addressed the reason IV was delayed due to tech issues and that is the only GTA that has been delayed.

Lastly I haven't speculated any release date because I have no idea when it is going to release. I understand you looking at the history to prove your point of there "release tactics" but I don't really see it that way.

I wasnt talking about TV as such, but more publicity.

GTA 5 video was like bait that dragged in millions of views, that then means people see MP3's name. Those people are now aware of a Game called MP3 that is made by the same people that make GTA & those people like GTA, so they have sucessfully advertised you something that you were not aware or may otherwise care about.

It's rather basic advertising

It does seem strange to have a whole trailer and yet not even say what year the game is scheduled to come out. It's strange to have seen the game in motion and yet actually know nothing about the game 2+ months later.

OK well in that sense I understand your point as far as publicity goes for MP3. They have successfully publicized MP3 to GTA fans but I doubt it ultimately seals or opens the fate for MP3 as some people have made it out to be. To the majority GTA is still on there mind and they could care less about MP3.

Another reason why I feel history can not state how the game will be released. A month after IV there was a whole article in GameInformer. 2+ months now and not even a smidgen of information. I understand frustration can lead to believe that R* is being evil and annoying. But there might be more to it then that.

Apologies for the countless double posts lol

Exactly. Ive read plenty of comments from rational and mature people (a number of industry people too) on other games sites that expect V to release in 2013 as a result of MP3.

This is the longest development time for a GTA if im not mistaken, and if isnt to date, it will be whenever it comes out.

Without a release date R* can do this all year pretty much, which includes unannounced delays.

I do admit it was odd, but if the projected release of 2013 is true maybe they didn't want to disappoint fans straight off the bat with such a far away year of release.

Though as someone said it's not uncommon for developers to announce games/show trailers a good 2 years before their scheduled release.

The old R* site had this LA Noire traile for over a year and it took more than a year until it got released. Sure, Team bonbi developed, not R*.

But with GTA IV and RDR, Max Payne 3 and Agent, it is like that.

GTa V may have a trailer out, but this doesn't mean it's coming out soon. It was just to show "It will come, it will feature jets, landscape, beautiful graphic, jet skis, bla...".

There isn't a "coming soon" or anything else included.

It will take a year, they will feed us a trailer every 3-4 months, release october 2012 at the earliest. 2013 more likely. <- For anyone who doesn't believe in the latest history of R* releases, I don't want it to drop so late either! But what makes you think this game will all of a sudden come out like that? Like in May?

Its all too suspect to be honest no new info at all not even the basics no platform no release date. Its all to wierd maybe GTA IV changed the whole release date of GTAs from now on maybe they plan to release it before Max Payne 3 either way GTA V will take sales away from Max Payne 3 unless they are months away from each other. They could have just announced GTA V was in development and not released a trailer for the shareholders and fans that would have had the same effect. But the whole releasing a trailer seems like its gonna be very soon we will be seeing GTA V. Oh and the fact that they think the less we all know the more magic the game is to the fans. But in truth the less we know the more we all get restless the less we know the more speculation arises. The less we know the more we get annoyed ESP when there isnt even the basics there to hold onto.

Yes, basically they used GTAV as a catapult for Max Payne 3's success. Nothing more really. It's basically an advertisement for Max Payne 3 you could say, they'll get lots of idiots searching "gta5" on youtube etc all the time - but not Max Payne. So they'll stumble across V's trailer and eventually be lead to the MP3 ads.

"But what makes you think this game will all of a sudden come out like that? Like in May?"

Basically the long development time. R* are supposedly on top of the new engine by now, so to go this long with no word kind of blows the doors open a bit more. I'ts not looking likely now, but when the trailer released, it wasnt unreasonable to think V might be out 6 months after it.

This development time was about the same for GTA IV.

And the very first trailer "Life is complicated..." let everyone go nuts back then in 2007. Still, the final game was released in 2008, april.

So after GTA IV and until GTA V, R* was busy with L.A. Noire, Red Dead & DLCs, Agent, Max Payne, EFLC, GTA V.

I can't see it launching that soon, when other titles got announced even earlier...

^ same time for IV, but that was due to a 6 month delay. Which is my point about not having a release date: they can delay it x amount of times but we wont know, and the shares wont dip either.

Rockstar North has not been working on L.A Noire, Max Payne or Red Dead. They have only worked with EELC, GTA V and Agent since 2008.

This is something many does not think of, Rockstar have different departments for different games.

R* San Diego & North made RDR since then it's unknown what they are working with now, problaby RDR 3 for PS4/Xbox 720

R* Vancouver, New England, Toronto and London develop Max Payne 3

R* North develop GTA V & Agent at the moment.

Sure, it probably took some time to adjust to the new engine (and add Euphoria), but that's not all that goes into the development of a game as large as GTA IV.

IV has the most in-depth story, dialogue and characters of any GTA to this date, and where previous GTAs were mostly parodies of popular movies and stereotypical characters, IV is almost completely original. And it has by far the most detailed map. People act like just because they didn't particularly like the story, or because the map was smaller than SA or JC2, it took less effort to make it. That simply isn't true. It takes a lot of time to make a game as grand as GTA IV, both to actually do it, and to plan it/come up with it.

R* are like children who hand in a rushed paper right before the last deadline. R* had to report losses this year to the shareholders so they threw together a trailer at the last minute to appease them. Its all about fooling the suckers erm i mean the StockHolders into thinking theyre actually doing work so they can get more money for booze.

Look, we have a trailer! It will be released sometime in the 21st century! Now give us more money! [door closes and sound of whiskey bottles being opened]

I don't understand what is so surprising about the wait period. This is how Rockstar does business. I would personally prefer that they wait until 3 months before releasing the game before they even announce the existence of a game. Nothing is really gained, and their games don't need so much promotion anyway. However, i know what to expect, especially with huge games like these. I would be shocked if they ever DID release a game quickly. Think about it, this forum actually became FAR more insane AFTER Rockstar officially announced the existence of GTAV. The trailer only fed into the insanity of immature children who continue to stomp their feet and bash a company for daring to take the time it takes to make the very products that are so great. Instead of being excited and exploring the possibilities with constructive criticism, these ungrateful idiots have only doubled down on the Rockstar bashing. Look at how long MP3, L.A. Noire and other titles have taken. RDR was a MASTERPIECE. None of this would be possible with the average company that rushes unfinished products to the public, simply to meet a deadline. It would have been better at this point if GTAV was still a secret. In my opinion, nobody here DESERVES a damn thing.

I have been wondering this alot lately, why would they announce this game so early if its easily not coming out anytime soon?

What i think is the answer is that not a lot of people were really that interested in MP3(excluding the fans of the series)

and also i guess they needed to boost their stocks so they announce GTA V and kill two birds in one stone.

Wonder no more. I think you just answered your own question.
