friendly luggage
Ok when I turn on this old dell dimension 4700 it wont go into the dell bios. Yesterday I used a ms dos program called boot and nuke to erase all the data as im selling this machine. After that I re installed windows xp did a format before instal in the xp setup (not a quick one). I then installed the drivers such as.my ati x300 ones and the mobo drivers including the chipset as well. But today when I turn my ma dell on it wont go into the dell bios which gives you options. It just says ati se x300 bios onscreen and then stays at that. If I remove the card.and.use onboard it just says intel pci e bios and stays at that. Having a disc in the drive wont load up a program either. So for crapp grammar as im on my phone which is a pain to type with. EDIT Got it working now, turned out it was a dodgy stick of ram. Should of checked the ram sticks first before I cleared the CMOS and tried multiple different graphics cards. Slamman
I got a Dell Dimension 4550 from the Goodwill for $10, did an upgrade on that, POST is usually not a problem with Dell machines I've encountered, and it's been a few now! My folks got one first, and I started my laptop collection with the Latitude series. The Optiplex GX270 and 280s have had problems booting though, not sure what can be the issue there, if you get proper power, the Ethernet LAN lights outback should light up, you'd get an AMBER light up front if there's hardware issues, but always check RAM of course, even the RAM slots themselves can be iffy
