A fun tweak you could do when you get GTA V

Something GTA games lacked is difficulty setting. This makes the game challenging for novices, and a piece of cake for us long time GTA fans. GTA IV was probably the easiest GTA for me to get 100% in single player.

Here's a proposal for something you could do when you first put in that GTA V disc into your ps3/xbox 360.

Go to display settings and turn off the radar. Trust me, this would make GTA 10 times harder, but far more immersive.

To get around town, you have to rely on the start menu map, or listen to the in car GPS. This means you would more likely memorise land marks and short cuts around the city, making you beast in online mp gta races.

Evading cops becomes extremely difficult even at 3 or 4 stars, because you have no idea whether you are out of cops range or not (you know, that blue range on the mini map that indicates whether you can lose your wanted level or not). You also have no idea whether theres a cop around the next street corner, so you are going to have to rely more on stealth to hide from the cops than just driving at full speed. The only thing you can rely on is the flashing white stars. Lit up white means cops see you, dull grey means cops can't see you but you're still in the blue region, and white flashing means stay here and cops will lose your tail.

Finally shoot out missions are alot more difficult too, since you don't exactly know where the enemies are, nor how many of them are left. You're going to have to rely on your listening skills and visual cues to work out where they are. It makes shoot outs a lot more heart-pumping, since a dude with a shotgun could be just around the corner...

So yeh, tell me your thoughts and whether you'd do this when you first get GTA V. I know I will!!

On gtaSA i would always have the hud off. I love the feel of adventure, AND the feel of danger. (since i cant see the health bar!)

This is what I'm doing with V, straight away. Also, no autoaim.

Good ideas, but using free aim on GTA IV on a console was so damn clunky, I hope it's more like RDR in the shooting department.

I won't do that on my first play through because that would kind of feel like I'm not playing it how it's mean to be played if you know what i mean. 2nd, 3rd, 100th playthrough... hell yes

Good Idea, I should try that. I'm doing something similar right now with GTA IV I just started a new game yesterday and the rules I did was to

1. Never run only walk (This would actually make you realize how beautiful Liberty City is and how R* spend hard work trying to make this game. Instead of passing by really fast on a car.)

2. Never steal a car. Use Public Transportation or Taxis/Cabs.. The only possible way to use a car is Romans Cab or Lambo given to you to keep. (Make it more realistic) Any other car given to you. Leave it when you are done with the mission and walk.

3. Never skip RED LIGHTS (Unless you are being chased by cops or trying to run away from someone)

4. Make it realistic, like you are Niko Bellic and how will you react to certain situations.. People fighting out of no where, COPS pointing a gun at someone ect.

This actually makes the game longer and fun for me. I've never realized how cool Liberty City was until I did this. I spend like 10 minutes or some times 15 minutes because of the walking or transportation. However it could make the boring but you would actually learn a lot from this game.

I will do the fun tweak with no radar. Wish me luck.

Its more realistic to get lost in a new city. I'm surely disabling the "supporting" features in my first play through of GTA V.. biggrin.gif

It's a great idea for an everything or nothing guy like me. I tried it briefly in IV but it was very challenging & I couldn't be bothered. That was only because I couldn't be bothered with the game anymore anyway. I only completed IV once, with autoaim, then tried it again without. I got maybe 10 missions in and was already bored to death. No replayability really.

V better fix this.

You're like Zee, but worse, because you're posts are really whiney. It's almost as if someone pissed in your cereal or something...

Hmm health bar off aye? Seems interesting, but with the direction most shooters are going today (including R*), I doubt the next GTA will have health bars at all. Like RDR, they will probably go with the screen turning red with the more damage you take.

What I really hope is they do what Saints Row 3/Mafia 2 did - have a self healing health bar. This way, the self healing part will only go up to halfway, and you need to eat/drink to get the health to maximum. This way Cluckin Bells and Burger shot will still be in business cool.gif

Cluckin' Bell won't still be in business, it's chicken is worse than KFC's.

I like the radar on. It's just something that my eyes need to see. It's the key component of the GTA HUD. And getting around IV without it would be damn annoying.. what with how similar most parts of LC looked.

Actually I already do this in GTA IV but always on my first playthrough I use the radar to get to know some mechanics that otherwise I wouldn't even know they existed. I think that if you do a no-radar run from the get go, you would miss out some things the game has to offer.

Snake Without a Tongue

I tried turning off the HUD a long time ago. It really did make the game more full, but police chases sucked. For every little star I had to go to a pay n spray.

Yeah, I liked turning radar off too. It was a challenge to come back home from some thrown village in desert.

But I don't really like idea of adding difficulty levels. Just imagine it:

Main Menu -> Game -> New Game -> Select Difficulty -> Play!

Awful! That is damn Driver, not GTA!

No, no, that isn't grown enough for Grand Theft Auto, especially the fifth era. icon13.gif

Wow, thats quite mental and cool at the same time!

GPS doesn't belong in GTA, IMO. I mean in the III era you had to figure out a way to get to the marker even if you took wrong turns in to dead ends, it meant you learned the map.

Also, you'd spend more time looking at the the view and not the HUD to see where the green line is taking you. The GPS makes you feel that you are not in control as much.

Yeh thats true, but only if GTA V completely overhauls the radar. If its anything like GTA IV, I'll probably do this tweak on first attempt, because I want a challenge right from the start. I tried doing this tweak in GTA IV, but I've played the game so many times already that it just wasn't as fun as it would be had I tried it on my first/2nd attempt. That's why I'd like to try it out on a brand new GTA instead.

However if GTA V completely changes the radar system, well then I'll try the new system out first.

No auto-aim obviously. Ever. But I like your idea, must try that.

I'm the kind of guy who never crashes his cars or kills pedestrians though. Ruins the immersive aspect of the game.

Very interesting indeed - however I still am too much of a gaming noob. I might do this the second time round.

I always do this on my second playthrough. I'll keep the HUD on though, in a third-person game that is basically the five senses.
