Mafia 1 was brilliant but the second one was sh*tty. More like Mafiyawn 2 if I'm honest. Didn't understand what character development was.

This review basically sums up my opinion of the game:

And here's a funny parody of the storyline (SPOILERS)

True confused.gif, however i really hope they make it but there is a good chance it may just come out on the next gen consoles.

The second one was great in my opinion although, there were a few things I didn't like such as having to collect 159 wanted posters, etc. The only problem I have with the first one was that strange bug that seems to only occur n the final mission.

First game was brilliant, punching above it's weight technology wise (for the time) and it's story, although a tad cliche, was superb. The second game's mechanics I thought were solid and the city was very, very well crafted. Every building seemed to have character and purpose. It felt very true to it's time. Wasn't 100% sold with the story and the developers hacking chunks of the game out was unforgivable (even if they didn't go through with selling off all the old missions as DLC... they just seemed to cut it out!?).

I'd happily play Mafia 3. Whether it would be a first day purchase after the disappointment of 2 is another thing.

If you just play the campaign you barely visit some of the areas, I would have focused on showing everything there is...

Algonquin Assassin

I was a bit hesitant to buy Mafia II after reading about it, but when I actually did I quite enjoyed it to be honest. I only played a small part of Mafia, so I probably don't sympathize with hardcore fans of the first.

On its own Mafia II is one of the best games I've ever played, but since I know so little about the first game I don't have a full understanding of its flaws.

Looking forward to Mafia III. smile.gif

They actually fired a lot of staff last year from 2k czech, and Daniel Vavra, creator of Mafia franchise leave a studio even before release of Mafia 2.Also 2k czech release Top Spin 4 last year before the lost of jobs so that studio probably wouldn't work on potential Mafia 3.Who knows, maybe Take-Two just transver development to one of Rockstar studios?San Diego would probably do a great job after experience with MC and RDR.

NO.

SD doesn't do PC versions so no SD.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockstar_San_Diego

OK now i see it.Really why they didn't make PC game since 2003?Then PC version could be made by Leeds,i hear that LA Noire for PC was much better than GTA IV,or they could develop all the versions.

I liked mafia 1, kinda. I give it a 50/100. I had REALLY good memories though, like the hotel level and stuff. I loved how you could free roam too.

Mafia 2 was great, but it ticked me off they took out the free roam that was in mafia 1, and cut a few locations as seen in videos of how to go outside the city limits. If you glitch out the city limits you can go to some areas that were most likely re creations of the country side from mafia 1.

I hope mafia 3 can bring back what mafia 1 did, but good graphics. I say mafia 1 should be ported to PS3 and 360 in HD.

People need to stop commenting on how Mafia 2 was crap.

Mafia 2 was a great game with super awesome voice actors and maybe a disappointing ending (only because it was a cliffhanger, which for me is a pretty exciting and original ending).

Mafia has and will never be (hopefully) GTA or about free roam. It's about the storyline, getting to know the other characters through missions and storyline (and yes, the storyline was worse than Mafia 1, that doesn't make it a bad game).

And what's with people wanting the same game remade over and over again, seriously, PROGRESS.

I expect to see Mafia III in year 2015. They said few years and we fit in those "few". On that time, new version of present engines will appear, perfectly for the third one.

I just don't know why but I want connections with first game and story, but on the other hand I would love to see Vito and Joe again, because I really and still admire how their characteristics were build for the story.

Funnily enough, despite my disliking of the game, its actually really incredible in many ways. Its beautiful. Firefights are fast and exciting. The city is fantastic. Its a great backdrop. Its not supposed to be GTA and it works great. The voice acting is actually pretty good. Its the narrative that fails. There is no character development, and all the characters are wooden, the worst of all Vito himself. Vito is so willing to join the crime families, when Vito refuses to kill Leo, it pales in comparison to other stuff he did. Its here when I realized he was just a coat hanger for the player, devoid of emotion. And the writing, the writing was horrible. There are like two good lines in the whole game. Its full of sh*t like this:

How did you get here?

We followed the yellow brick road!

ARGH. WHAT IS THAT?

Oh, and the melee sucks. GTAIV also doesn't have great fist fighting, but it doesn't make up half the game. Sequel to this, the mission structure sucks. Its just long sessions of driving and moving crates, with a couple of sh*tty fist fights thrown in. The gun shooting is really strong but too scarse.

And those are my thoughts. I really want to like the game, but it just won't let me.

Oh I'm sorry, I'll make sure to let people know that they need your permission to post their opinions.

Mafia 2 wasn't a bad gane per se but I really thought that the story was lacking. It didn't make me interested in what's going to happen next, I just played through it to finish it.

For some strange reason, I still think Mafia 2 was one of the best games I've played. I thought the story was gripping, controls and action were tight, and the city was immersive and well crafted.

As you should.

People can post their opinions all they want, but using the "It's not GTA"-reason makes me sad.

Hence I've posted more than that one line, apparently it wasn't clear enough.

What 'its not GTA' reason? Can you elaborate?

If you're talking about the free roam, a game having free roam doesn't make it a GTA clone you know.

That and your argument completely falls apart when you say Mafia was never about free roam, since Mafia I had free roam AND a far better story than Mafia II at the same time.

2K Czech basically dumbed down the game. Though it isn't beyond saving. I'm sure if they listen to the criticism they've received and brought back what made Mafia what it is but at the same time added new things without destroying the core of the game, they'll have a real winner with Mafia III.

Mafia I had a free roam as in you could run where you want but it wasn't about free roaming. The only thing that focussed on free roaming was the unlockable game mode.

How was Mafia about free roam according to you? Everything in the game pointed towards play through the storyline and missions FIRST.

What 'its not GTA' reason? Can you elaborate?

I can elaborate, the average GTAForums member doesn't play much more than just GTA. They ask for plz gief game liek gta (or they try out a game by themselves)

You give them a list of ten games (or he makes his own list), three hours later they come back with: OMG NOT LIEK GTA AT ALL WTF sh*t GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111 I PLAY ONLY ROCKSTAR !!!!!!!11

Not saying that's not their own choice, but it doesn't justify calling every other game ever made crap.

Explain how they dumbed Mafia 2 down? How do you know it wasn't what 2K Czech didn't want to release in the first place?

@Fireman, You're missing the point. You had the ABILITY to free roam and had the freedom of doing missions when you wanted to. The game wasn't as linear as Mafia II is.

@nightwalker, I consider free roaming to be something that makes Mafia what it is. Taking out this core element is something I consider dumbing down.

I have to agree here. There wasn't much to do in free roam, but it was still a nice option.

I am super excited for this game. Loved Mafia 2 and I only played a little bit of Mafia CoLH.

I believe Mafia 3 should be in the 70's like the times of Henry Hill. Mafia 3 could have some new features such as taking hostages, secretly insert a bomb on a car, do drug deals etc... it might be interesting. But I'm sure 2K will surprise us.
