IllnessGTA
Just Cause much? It happened in Just Cause? I thought you get chased by the military. By Police, Military and various gangs (depends in area, it may be Police and Purple Gang, Military and Red Gang, Military and Police, etc) I seriously don't remember there being any gangs in Just Cause. So JC had a gang wanted system similar to mine?
Dick Valor
I'd rather there not be a gang wanted system as I thought this was incredibly cheeseball in SR. Gangs do not have the same resources as local and state governments (it's so ridiculous when they send helicopters after you like in SR). In any case, the police/SWAT/FIB/military should be more than adequate for the primary wanted system. But it's nothing like SR's wanted system. Didn't you read the post? Mine was completely different, and more realistic. Lots of your ideas are fine and I didn't mean for my post to seem like a direct attack on them. I just wanted to stress that I would not like a gang wanted system as robust as SR's. I also don't want gangs to be the focus, like in SR, but part of the LS environment. Some of your thoughts seem a little excessive to me (like having gang meters), but I do want gang behavior to be responsive to your in-game choices/actions. I could warm up to a small gang radius during a specific conflict, but keep in mind that they don't have the same intel and city presence as the police and a gang radius should be relatively easy to escape should you desire. I do like your idea of having the map highlight problem areas where gangs may openly attack you based on your notoriety there. It's not unlike the III-era GTAs, only with a visual representation on the map.
chuckberry04
Think about how GTA is evolving and you know there want be a fuking Gang-wanted system. A game like GTA San-Andreas would get away with it, cause its not very realistic and all that. If you see the way GTA V looks, you know there won't be such a system, its just ridiculous, jeezus christ.
Civkiller
I'm thinking since GTASA was heavily about gangs that we should have our own gang wanted system in V, since it takes place in Los Santos. It wouldn't be the typical 1 star 2 star thing. It'll be a gang wanted meter that fills up whenever you piss of a gang so much. Say you kill a a gang member, from any gang. He won't just be on his own, so around the street, gang members will come to attack. You can leave the area before more gang members come back, but when you go back there, you will see a lot of gangsters on the look out for you. If they spot you, they will fire upon you, and your bar will go up again (depends if you change your clothes or hair or similar when going back to the area, so they might not recognise you). But if you kill a few more gang members or a load more, the area in the map will be coloured red meaning 'dangerous.' It'll be dangerous for a few days. Your gang wanted meter will fill back up once you enter the area, and some gang members may chase you in cars, and call for backup. The area will be swarming with armed gangsters. If the gang meter goes all the way up to the top, you have to be careful (you only get this if you cause destruction against a gang e.g kill over 100 or blow up a load of their vehicles) since if you enter a shop, a few gang members may be waiting for you, with bats and knives. There will be cars looking for you, and the dangerous highlighted area will be spread out. A lot more gang cars will begin chasing you, and they may get you by surprise. If you kill a gang member without his buddies seeing, you can go back to the area without being paranoid that they will attack. You will just see more gang members around the area. If you just fight a few gang members and KO them, they will fight back, but they won't really care about going after you. Your meter will go up only slightly. So what's your opinion of this idea? It won't happen due to the fact that GTA:SA was based in 1992 I believe when gangs were more active. Gang activity has gone down significantly since then and GTA V is based between 2009-2011 I would say and although there still are gangs around in real life I don't see gang wars coming back in GTA V. Man did I hate doing those... lol
oglevempire
Your idea really reminds me the Gang Respect Bar in Grand Theft Auto II. I like this idea, they should seriously add it into the script of GTA 5, on the other hand, all these ideas make the game very complicated, and the script of Grand Theft Auto V very hard to build. Official General
@ chuckberry04 Your theory will depend on thst type of protagonist we are dealing with. If it is that Ned Luke-based middle-aged man, then yeah a gang wanted system will look a little out of place. However if it turns out to be multiple protagonists with the Hispanic and Black characters included, then for those two, a gang wanted system would be perfect. @ Civikiller Your are wrong, gang activity in Los Angeles has not greatly declined at all. Its just no longer big news anymore as it was when it was at its peak in the late 1980s and into the 1990s. If anything, street gang activity has gotten even worse in some parts of LA and it seems to spreading even further across California and beyond. The street gangs in LA today just seem to more and more heavily armed and they have weapons that even the US military would be proud of. Gang wars are still very much frequent in LA today, there are gang killings and shootings all the time, its no worse or calmer than it was before. There may be calm periods every now and then, but sh*t always gets stirred up and gangs are warring again. The general population in LA have just learned to get used to it and live with it, and as long the gang stuff stays in the hood or barrio (which it does for most part), you wont really hear about it that mich these days. On topic: Yeah any kind of gang or mafia wanted system would be great as long as its relevant to the character.
tenpennyisplainevil
maybe like this: 0 of metre: they ignore you 1/4 of metre: they say "hey, isnt that... nah, probably not" 2/4: they see you and walk up to you to confirm its you. like in SA, where you could say you represent or not 3/4: if you stay in their sight for 10 secs they attack full: they immediately see you and duck into cover and are scared of you they desperately call for backup. sometimes they set up a random hit on you, like when you owe the casino money in SA, but more sophisticated. like sometimes its just a car drive by, other times they attack territory or set up a roadblock, a guy that tails you on foot and tries to slit your throat, like in ACR. a sniper, maybe. every gang has its own metre. ccrogers15
Or they could just make it the same as the police, exept for gangs. Saints Row 2 actually has thhe same kind of system. Saints row 1,2 and 3 all had that system. Its called notoriety.

JoanCrawford
I did not like that system in SR3. Police only. Why? Its a good system. It tells how much you ticked off a gang. Because it was just too much to focus on. I guess it was good for a game like SR which revolves mainly around gangs, but I don't see a need for it in V. sonnyBlack
It's an interesting concept and I like it a lot. It reminds me of the respect o meter from GTA 2, a feature I was always a big fan of. But this sort of thing would really be cool in GTA. Having some type of gang wanted level where they will chase you throughout their hood and try to take you out, and even chase you for a bit into other gang's hoods before finally backing off or being shot up by the rival gang. But yeah, anything that'll make gang warfare more interesting is good to me, and this type of thing is about as good as it gets imo.

LaBrat
I dunno, it sounds like a pretty good idea to have a gang wanted meter. After all, you know what they say, Respect Is Everything.
IllnessGTA
It's a stupid idea. I don't want a stupid gangmeter, wtf? I dont need my screen filled up with meters and sh*t. When a gang is pissed of at you, you'll notice. The whole screen wouldn't be filled up with meters. And the meter only appears when you interact with gangsters, and it won't be big. iLoveRunningPeopleOver
This is a good idea cause its realistic..if you piss off a gang in real life and kill one of their own they you better expect payback whenever they see you next. Only change I would make is put the meter in the stats under 'Gangs' or some similar heading, and not on screen in the HUD.

Official General
I've just finished watching a programme in a televison series called " Gangland" about a Mexican drug cartel called 'Los Zetas'. It was very interesting in the way these guys have vicious gang wars and try to out do each other to dominate the drug trade along the US-Mexico border. Damn, those Mexican drug cartels like Los Zetas are extremely murderous, bloodthirsty and completely ruthless, they just don't give a f**k. They kill by the masses and also in a real gruesome manner They are evil in its purest form. The Los Zetas cartel have many groups based in the USA, and they simply send out a squad of specially-trained killers with tons of the best weapons to locate and kill a target whenever the cartel put out a hit on a certain person. Apparently, the Zetas cartel almost ALWAYS get their target and they will go after ANYONE ANYWHERE. I really hope we get a very good section on the Mexcian drug cartels in GTA V, these guys have to be there. I would love to see a gang wanted to system for crime groups like Mexican drug cartels, such as Los Zetas. That would real exciting and crazy. kailomonkey
As long as the wanted goes away once you die, then a gang could hunt you down if it really wanted. It's like they took revenge and killed you, then ofcourse you live on as you do when killed by the police, as if nothing ever happened. Wonder what would happen if they captured you alive though (gang arrest ). Tortured? Given permanent scars? Lose a finger? Or a limb??

It'll eventually die down, and they'll stop looking for you. And the gang arrest idea is pretty cool, but it'll be hard to do...maybe they'll catch you, and force you to bring them to your safehouse. They'll burn it down, and you need to pay a lot to get it fixed. In the meantime, you have to sleep in a hotel, or something.
