K-Malo94
How do you think they should do hand to hand combat? I think the definitely went the wrong way in RDR. Melee in RDR felt like you were drunk fighting another drunk guy. Sorry If this is already a topic
A White CJ
It should go Assassin's Creed style. Really. Rip off AC. AC's got the best melee fighting of all time. Not the exact controls, of course, as that wouldn't mesh with the rest of it, but when we "aim" our "unarmed" weapon, it should bring up different controls to parry, attack, attack in a different manner, kick, etcetera. JS1989
the best hand to hand fighting is the freeflow fighting from Batman-arkham asylem/city in GTA.
ChillyPhilly
This! GTA is not a button-bashing fighting game. But most fans were a little disappointed with the way the hand to hand combat worked in IV - or at least, it had its pet peeves. But I'd hope to see more melee weapons, as well as makeshift, one-off weapons. Like The Warriors. Glass someone with a bottle. Pick up a brick and slam it into their skull. Orestone
I'm fully onboard with this, I even made a topic before on GTAF saying the hand-to-hand combat should resemble The Warriors game.
Finn 7 five 11
GTA IV fighting and RDR's was terrible. Some sequence/prompt would be good, in San Andreas it was great how you could train yourself a few moves at the gym, and they were easily executed, ex[anding on that a lot would be ideal, and possibly some set fighting sequences in missions, and the ability (out of mission) to smash heads into nearby's objects, and some prompts when fighting to execute cool moves. For example; You have someone in a headlock, press triangle to knee in the face. In a mission, your doing a deal, no weapons allowed, it goes sour and you gotta fight to get out, the fight sequence will be somewhat similar to Uncharted (In my mind) Skip to 4:30. Matty
I don't really mind how hand to hand combat is done in Grand Theft Auto V. With that being said though, Grand Theft Auto doesn't focus around hand-to-hand combat as the primary means of fighting (whereas a game like Assassin's Creed focuses more on melee-based weaponry, so a more refined hand-to-hand combat fits well with that game) and therefore, wouldn't fit well with a Grand Theft Auto game in my opinion. It is not like you ever use hand-to-hand combat in a Grand Theft Auto game anyway other then for senselessly beating up pedestrians, so I don't see why it needs to be refined any further when you are almost always going to have at least a handgun at your disposal for dealing with rivals in a shootout (it is not like you are going to run up to several rivals; who are armed with SMG's and various other weapons; aiming and shooting straight at you, with the intention of beating them up in hand-to-hand). crogtafan
i would like to see more interaction with the environment. something like true crime. bashing heads through tv sets, glas and walls, using nearby objects as melee weapons, throwing npc-s in dumpsters and car trunks, using npc-s as human sheilds, ect. also i would like to see a counter feature - smt like batman AC but without indication. JasonBrody
Whenever a fighting topic comes up somebody mentions The Warriors but everybody forgets to mention BULLY which in my opinion had great fighting mechanics.
Inncognitoo
To be honest, I think it should have UFC Undisputed fighting mechanics, I don't think it will be that hard to make. But if we're talking about melee improvements, we should really pay attention to the melee in the upcoming MP for the game. melee Fighting in IV multiplayer was basically fighting the lag, so I hope it's actually useful now because even SAMP had better melee fighting than IV's. Grand_Theft_Peanut
The fighting system in GTA IV is so basic and primitive... its basically once ur locked on all u can do is punch the same three swings and kick... u should be able to tackle or grab people and also moves should mix up a bit otherwise it gets boring id rather have to use melee a lot because using a gun is pretty extreme if u think about it so they should make owning weapons in the game pretty valuble

Thank you. While additional refinement would be nice, it's completely unnecessary. Give me a simple combat system like in IV and I'd be happy. The hand to hand needs major improvements, street fights should be way more fun and way more important to the gameplay. Beating someone up is one of my favoret things to do in GTA, wether it has to do with missions or not. They had a perfect hand to hand system in the wariors and It wouldn't be hard to modify it to fit GTA, just take out the fancy king fu kicks. Imagen starting a bar fight and smashing bottles and whiskey glasses over some bikers heads. Also you could beat some one up to intimidate them but not kill them, like if you need to get a store owner to pay protection. Also they should make thrown objects actually do something when they hit people, like if I'm out of ammo in my guns I want to be able to peg some one in the face with a brick! Also they should make thrown objects actually do something when they hit people, like if I'm out of ammo in my guns I want to be able to peg some one in the face with a brick! I thought the fighting mechanics were good enough for IV. It had a skill to learn (the timing for the dodge moves, which varied based on whether the enemy was a criminal or not) and felt pretty badass when you got the hang of it. The problem is that if they make the hand-to-hand any more involved, it'd be a lot of work to implement and learn when it'd become practically redundant about a third into the game (where the player and enemies get long-range automatic weapons). Also, after a certain point, do you ever find yourself running out of ammo? I'd say they should improve the stun-punch (it appears in one mission and is almost impossible to use in any others). I agree that there should be more thrown and melee objects like bottles that you can pick up from the street (for the early parts of the game).
