How many times will they redesign GTA cities?

GTA V will probably their last time with re-iterating the same locations.

We've most likely seen the last of Liberty City, and soon come Los Santos, as a whole setting for a major installment.

They've definitely have done them justice like they've been wanting to.

Depending on the future of GTA, I'm thinking we'll be seeing new cities in and around the U.S.

And maybe even move on out of U.S. culture.

that ain't happening my brotha.

GTA is staying in U.S but only in the most best cities U.S Has.

San Francisco

Los Angeles

Las Vegas

New York

Yeah.

Then I'm not sure how to continue the franchise in U.S., besides revamping Vice City, and smaller U.S. cities.

Like I said before, I know U.S. is pretty much a no-brainer to make fun of, and there's just so much to parody, so I guess they could have stuff in mind.

And I totally forgot about that quote from Houser that GTA will probably never go out of the U.S.

I hope not. Next Gen I want a midwest city, with bits based on Detroit, Chicago and other cities like that. It might be a bit similar to Liberty in terms of architecture though.

I would like to see how they could tackle an asian city. Them doing Tokyo would be cool if they could somehow capture that crazy, other worldly feel everyone talks about it having.

99% sure GTA will never feature the Midwest. Detroit or Chicago would just bore the f*ck out of people. Chicago in particular is an amazing city, but its vibe is just not distinctive enough, we already have Liberty City. The only other American city that enjoys worldwide fame, is iconic, and hasn't been touched by GTA is Washington, D.C. Not sure it will ever happen though.

As for foreign destinations, London, Paris, and Tokyo would all be incredible.

I wouldn't be surprised if GTA VI is VC again. But after that...?

I don't know if R* could justify revisiting the cities again, and I don't think any other new cities would live up to expectations for a GTA game. Also, I don't think GTA can leave the US, its a US parody. Personally I think there will be one more GTA, a massive final swansong of a game (hopefully in VC), and that will be it. R* will then move on to new locations in new franchises. People might say that GTA is too big for R* to end, but its gotta end sometime. The Housers probably have so many other ideas for games they would like to develop (can't wait to see what Agent is all about), any of which could be just as fun, big, and legendary as GTA if given the chance to not live in GTAs shadow.

GTA may have that final swansong and it could very well be a VC setting, but it won't be VI. VI will be the first next gen game and you know R* is not going to feel as if they utilized the new tech to its fullest potential on their first go (like IV). So, a GTA VII may be the swansong you envision--the one that maxes out the potential of the PS4/xBox 720 like V will for PS3/360. Where it will be set... only time will tell.

Personally, I don't think R* will drop GTA until it is no longer profitable.

This too. GTA VI will likely re-visit Vice City.

VC needs an overhaul or I'll start a riot. I suppose they're saving the best until last. cool.gif

Best part is its going to be on next gen consoles. Makes me tingle.

I have a feeling that only minor changes are going to happen in the HD adaptations of the GTA cities from now on and I think that they are more likeley going to use the development time to open up more buildings and make more cars and transport options as the map for IV was a perfect city style map.

Next-Gen Vice City would be amazing.

They will finish san andreas before moving onto anything else. In GTA V we will have Los Santos. GTA VI will have San Fiero. GTA VII will have Las Venturas (did I get all the names right? It's been years.. )

I think we will see these two more games quicker than usual. It will be like GTA III to Vice City. A year or two.

Then I imagine they will either stop making GTA or revisit Vice City.

All these HD recreations will probably be the last, then some new cities and states. It's not like when the gaming industry gets better technology they will need to redesign them again. You can't really improve Liberty City as it except with effects, lighting, textures etc. They already have made the city into what they want it to be. Now we just wait for San Fierro, Las Venturas and Vice City. Then we can see what new cities they have in store for us.

It would'nt disappoint me if they did Vice City, but the U.S. has plenty to choose from, so it's not absolutely necessary to go back to Vice City. Perhaps the next step in GTA will involve multiple cities. Imagine the airports playing a major part in the game. How about being able to fly between Las Vegas, Texas, New Orleans and Chicago? There may even be a next gen console by the time the next GTA comes out, so incorporating this vast of a map could happen.

I don't think many of you are getting me... will Liberty City in next-gen have the same map as GTA4's Liberty City? Will they just expand on surrounding areas and keep the city intact how it is now, or will they completely change the layout all over again and be a fresh new city?

That's basically what I'm talking about. How long these "HD versions" really will last, until technology encourages them to throw it all out the window and start all over again. I really don't want to have to visit another Liberty City that is different to the other 2.

The posters here seem hung up on new maps/ new locations. However, there is plenty of scope to expand within existing maps. For example, imagine LC with every interior available... Not just empty rooms either, but with NPCs and random encounters like RDR. It would be immense. Why the hell would you want GTA Detroit/ Chicago/ wherever when by revisiting previous maps you can add increasing layers of realism and action?

Anyone who has ever been to NYC will know there is a lot going on and even without touching the current map layout, it could be filled up with people and situations. I for one can't wait for the next iteration LC...

I would be happiest if they already have redesigned San Fierro and Las Venturas and release them kind of like The Ballad of Gay Tony and Lost and Dammed. I don't want 10 years or so of playing in 1 state.

I think they should move to London.

who knows lets enjoy this one first then maybe 3 years after it releases i'm sure R* are gonna find something cool to recreate

The redisgned it because of the new technology and advancements, so they could create such a large city in the way they imagined it. Once technology improves, you can't really improve exterior and interior that drastically as you can with pedestrian models and vehicles. Buildings and streets are basically near-perfected. There is no need to keep redesigning the cities.

As much as I liked SA and Vice City, I really think they should build another city in the next game. I'm looking forward for this new Los Santos but I'm a bit "scared" of playing in the same cities over and over, meaning that it could get a bit redundant.

I'm guessing they'll redesign Vice City too. Maybe even London. But they what i think R* should also think about, is the cities they never made. Take Chicago for example, its one of the biggest cities in the U.S. and Rockstar still didn't make a city based on it. It can be called Bridgeport or Lake City. Chicago can be a good city to start in, it has Gangs, Violence, and everything you can imagine that belongs in a GTA game. Chicago has TWO airports, which is even better. Plus, it can even be like in IV, half of a state to be in the map. So like Winconsin, it can be called Greenlon or whatever. But they have to make new cities, West Coast has been done, East Coast too, South also, but what about Midwest.

R* has to set VI in a Midwestern styled city, like Chicago or Detroit

they probably wont ever return to liberty city, unless they have the technology to make staten island

I couldn't picture SF or LV as their own standalone cities. We may see SF and LV briefly in V but not in their own title. The next one probably won't be VC as it might be too predictable. sad.gif

I reckon they will stop redesigning past locations after they have done so with Vice City. For soe reason I cannot see them not re-designing VC like they did with LC and LS/SA.

They have to re do VC one more time. Better yet, I'm thinking they are going to recreate Miami - Florida and islands between. If they don't I don't think I will be able to continue on living sad.gif

Regarding Miami / Vice City: I had an idea.

Miami enjoyed a period of significance in the Eighties with due to the booming drug trade and pop culture due to films like Scarface and TV shows like Miami Vice.

Since then Miami's profile has waned. Setting a GTA in Miami's parody, Vice City, in a period other than the 80's is fraught with difficulties. Perhaps the solution is to return to the 80's setting with a different story.

But then I had a thought. Why not a remake? Yes. A direct remake of GTA:VC; in the 80's, with Tommy Vercetti as the protag and everything. If there was one GTA that could withstand being remade, it would be the classic, VC.

It would have to be done similar to the way Tomb Raider was remade. All the obvious elements would be brought up to date, graphics, AI, game play etc. The map would be an all new Vice City: a more accurate Miami, but including the wider area of South Florida and the Keys. But to be all new, the plot would only be superficially similar, but largely transformed. All the missions would be completely different with only the odd one or two being reminiscent of the original. The only thing to be retained and enhanced would be the atmosphere and the general feel of the game.

Not new, but new. Would it work? Would Rockstar dare do it?

No they wouldn't. If Tommy did come back, it would be a continuation of VC's story. Wouldn't count on it though.

With that logic, being that they are going back to Los Santos/San Andreas, they will be continuing with CJ's/Grove Street's story........ dozingoff.gif

They would be going back to the place of the same name, completely redesigned with brand new characters. It wouldn't have nothing to do with Tommy.

Or if they make the city much, much bigger. Real life NYC makes GTA IV's LC look like Bohan. In saying that the general look of NYC was captured exceptionally well in GTA IV. There's really nothing else they could do without making it 10 times bigger than it is now.

It's possible we've seen the last of LC unless they make a handheld GTA for the PS Vita like LCS.
