Getting swarmed up on when mugging

Let's say you can mug people in the game, using any weapon apart from fists or heavy weapons (and obviously thrown weapons), but you can turn off the mugging ability whenever you want.

 

So you can mug people, but be careful what weapon you use, where you are and the time.

 

Imagine you try to mug a woman with a knife in broad daylight in a street (not too busy). You do this, and then people around the street will come to stop you. They will crowd you and fight you. It's hard to escape from a situation like this, because of how dumb it is to mug at the time.

 

If you do, however, try to mug someone with a gun at daylight on the streets, people won't help but they will call the police.

 

But if you do this at night, there isn't really a risk of mugger vigilantes, but there won't be a lot of people around to mug.

 

Mugging the wrong person is a big risk though. You should have common sense to try to not mug a gang member. Gang members will either start punching you, stabbing you or will give a shot to the head, killing you instantly. Some men and women will fight back, while some may run.

 

It is best to mug people in alleyways, but you will rarely find someone there, except from a hobo.

Hey this is a great idea. naturally, it's been brought up before but I like how you thought it through.

I also think you should be able to be mugged and people react in the same ways, except defending you (unless you pull out a gun and start shooting or something).

Yeah, I was going to say the 'sneak up' thing. Problem is, that you will be able to spot them anyway so they will fail in doing that. And the rival gang backup is cool.

there should be stealth moves (like the sneak behind with a knife option in San Andreas but more advanced and with an option to kill or just hold hostage) that you can use for this too. that would take mugging people to the next level.

The weird part about that is that everytime I've done that, (punched a female) a hobo is the one running to help the poor lady. always a hobo.

Cool idea but it sounds overly complex in its current form. I see it as the kind of thing you would try once, but then get bored of. I would rather they invest time into really fun side missions than something like this, because it just distracts from the core gameplay and what really makes GTA fun.

But this isn't a core game mechanic, this is a distraction that has no major reason to exist. Side missions actually serve a far greater purpose, creating many more oppurtunities for the player to have fun. You can always have fun playing a great side mission, but mugging someone remains useful only as long as the need for money/other trades exists. So after the main story arch is complete it wouldn't be very useful.

 

This doesn't apply to side missions, that's why I prefer them.

I feel the opposite. I only do side missions for the money. Things like this provide much more variety. Mugging someone provides much more variety than driving here than back and again and then there and back again. Seriously, see RDR's random encounters, they're f*cking amazing. This is more like that.

This idea actually makes alot of sense to me but i dont really see it being in gta 5. Is hard to imagine a middle age man with a family mugging people on a street instead of robbing banks or shooting up cops.

I'd like the mugging too if you didn't do it with in sight of a cop, no wanted level. Or peds pulling out cell phones to call 911 would be swiftly dealt with also resulting in no wanted level (at least at that time). However peds filming you via cell phone might result in a hard to lose wanted level, if they get away. Maybe robbery masks could be implemented?
