It's highly unrealistic the things that people do in GTA games. Why deny something that exists? If you go around killing people like maniac, then something reletively equal to counter to that should reflect in the game - ie. The Army. If you are going to be the most insane mass murderer in a game, killing innocents, robbing fighter jets and robbing cars all in one chase then it's only right, something of equal proportion is there to counter balance the action.

 

Rockstar always do a great job of presenting a real-world scenario with entertaining action.

 

The army is like when you want to go to 11. It's quite hard to last long with the army too. Just cops and SWAT gets boring after a while. Its a nice achievement when you get 6 stars and you hold off for a while. Oh and if I do go on a killing spree, say for 3 days in the game, non-stop they wouldn't think of having someone from the army come take a look? It's boring to know that there'll be less authorities after you.

I didn't find much difference between the Army on 6 stars and SWAT on 5, personally. They're both the same amount of challenge. If they're going to reappear, they should have more powerful weapons, like RPGs and Hand Grenades, and use tear gas too, or have Hunters with miniguns and rockets they can actually fire. That would really turn things up to 11.

If someone on a hardcore rampage in GTA game existed in real life then the army wouldn't not just arrive but would be needed.

 

Now all you uber-realism heads need to understand, if I was in a corner of a building killing scores of SWAT guys and slaughtering innocent people whilst causing 1000's of dollars worth of damage to property, why wouldn't they just blow up the building I'm in? Oh wait, the environment is not destructible. It's sooo unrealistic. It's a game. If it's done well it can believable in the world of GTA.

I will find it a bit strange if tanks and helicopters would chase after one guy in a realistic setting like this. SWAT tanks (and maybe one Rhino tank) and SWAT ospreys are cool, but the whole army is a bit weird.

It's never really the whole army but imagine there's a base near by. They would call out whoever is on their shift. That's the way I think of it anyway.

 

I dunno. I'd like to see them. IF they're in it wont be like the old days anyway. I'm sure it will be some new revamped way of doing it.

The National Guard would work, causing as much havok as you usually do in GTA V usually gets you branded as a domestic terrorist and when you have the whole city in havok it would make sense, I can also see them adding National Guard if they have terrorism as a part of the plot like in GTA IV, picture a mission where terrorists are attacking the city and everything's on lockdown and you have to whack some terrorists for a price while avoiding getting caught by the National Guard. GTA IV wasn't completely realistic, if it was it would have been unplayable but what they did was give the game movie logic rather than pure realism, everything in GTA IV was stuff that worked in the realm of gangster movies with some modern-day themes such as the Patriot Act and the decline of the Mafia to add to the atmosphere of the game, it worked and I'm sure this next one is going to take things to the next level.

Anyway as much as I enjoyed GTA IV having the army would've added more replay value. My favourite past time used to be going on rampages in the Rhino and going head to head with the other military tanks.

 

As for realistic vs unrealistic well IMO having the army included is more realistic than not having them at all. GTA IV was a more believable game, but it still wasn't 100% realistic. You can walk around the streets with a rocket launcher and no one will pay attention unless you use it.

 

The general impression I get from GTA V is it wont be as story dependent as GTA IV and perhaps be stuck between GTA IV, SA and maybe TBOGT. The army coming back is a possibility. Though R* could make army response a bit more realistic and rarer. Only in the most extreme case would they be called in. Like you start attacking government facilities or whatever.

 

If the army itself doesn't come back I hope the Rhino does in its strongest and most bad ass rendition yet. I don't want the pussy APC from TBOGT to come back to be honest.

Very small urban oriented special forces rescue teams are really the only military personnel qualified for this work.

 

That is why R* created the paramilitary force NOOSE for GTA4 because it is like a mixture of these (FBI HRT, SWAT, Military Special Forces) elements.

 

That being said. A more tactical, intimidating, and lethal version of NOOSE should return for law enforcement purposes (wanted star response) while the military should exist in a other roles in the story line. The military should be included GTA5 nonetheless.

Have you never seen First Blood? If someone goes on a massive killing spree and Law Enforcement is unable to stop them, the armed forces WILL be brought in to deal with the situation. So if you don't want it in the game, you'll need a better excuse.

Dont matter. It is the truth. If some guy was running around in real life blowing up cars, and if he was able to kill all cops in his path, the higher ups would be called in. (army, navy, who knows).

I doubt 10 tanks and military helicopters with gatling guns will chase down one guy. That'll be embarrassing for the nation...

More embarrassing than having a ton of citizens massacred by one guy nobody seems to be able to stop?

Still, it shouldn't be loud tanks and such. Just bring in skilled snipers or skilled agents to take care of this guy, not an onslaught of tanks that would probably cause more damage and death than you have to their buddies.

The military is well, the military. Everyone is trained. These aren't retarded battle droids or clones we're talking about. And what the hell do you mean by agents? Are we talking about The Matrix or one of the Bourne movies here? You know that's not real, right? All of this Shooter and Salt sh*t where Snipers and Assassins are infinitely knowledgeable and invincible is all just Hollywood. The snipers you're referring to could be in the Army or part of SWAT team.

 

@JoanCrawford: Read above. I was being sarcastic about First Blood, but it's still a more realistic plot than any of the Bourne movies or any like them. If you want to talk about realism, go look for a documentary about these "agents" you speak of.
