universetwisters
maybe not the whole army, but why not the national guard? i mean, theyre not going to send out a sh*tload of troops just to catch one man either that or give the swat some kind of apc

K^2
I don't know the name of those vehicles that fire missiles into the air. But that's what I meant. Probably won't happen but just dreaming. All out war in Los Santos! Mobile SAM sites. A bit overkill, really. You don't move SAM sites through hostile territory without armor and infantry support. You don't move these without CAS. Your CAS is vulnerable until you set up your SAM sites without support of air-superiority... Unless V is the size of Just Cause 2 map and supports 200+ players in MP, there is just no way to use mobile SAM sites properly. Even in BF2/BF3 this sometimes turns into a total cluster****, despite the game being built around these concepts. Man-portable SAMs should suffice. (E.g. Stinger) They just need to be relatively accessible. Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns. KrushLTx10
Realistically.. if you are causing major damage beyond repair, killing each and every one of the cops in the enitre city ( it's possible.. just really hard ) then... then they'd have to call in the National Guard, that's the way I see it. Camp Pendelton is an Army Base in Southern California. Maybe the army won't have 500 tanks at their disposal but maybe just a small APC that has a mounted machine gun and can shoot at you and you can't shoot at them unless you get lucky and shoot right down the sights. I for one, WANT the army back in the game. If it's unrealistic like SA, so be it. If it's realistic to an extent where they're just plain old boring f*ck it, but knowing R* they're gonna knock it out of the park if they do. Finn 7 five 11
Damn, people. Stop talking sh*t about realism and all that.Grand theft Auto is not about realism, only in its last versions. I don't even care, dude. Sure, it's a bit unrealistic, but it's still fun. I hope I'm not sounding like I am a fan of realism. I'm just saying that if the game is trying to be realistic like IV, then the military should not be in the game. It'll be weird, and it will stand out. If it is much less realistic, then they should add them. I just hope they don't make them as annoying. I still fail to see how GTA IV was more "realistic". Anyway, there was a tank in GTA IV TBOGT, it wasn't a full size tank, but the APC had a turret and could do some serious damage, and to the the person who was talking about explosion on impact, well that didn't happen with the APC so it won't happen with any tanks introduced in V. Capricornus
Im not afraid of the military in GTA so I wouldn't mind if it were to return. It was fun messing around with them in past GTA games. Would be nice if it were in GTA V, especially considering the fact that the setting is going to be a huge as described. A military base to compliment this would be great, in addition to what K^2 said. But if it doesn't appear the it won't be a bid deal.

He's got a point. If the goal is realism, then it'd be much more realistic for the Police and FIB to keep searching for you even after they haven't spotted you for a few minutes (or, in earlier games, if you collected floating stars). They would have roadblocks all over the city and be searching for you even if you went home and had a nap. The fact that the army chased you was, if anything, were one of the OTT parts of the earlier game. In practice though, they were basically SWAT with a different skin, more powerful weapons, more numbers but with trucks easier to evade. Apart from the Rhino, they didn't add much more to the challenge. So I have no preference either way on them appearing in V.

ccrogers15
The army appearing would be realistic. With all the things you can do on GTA, blowing up cars and such, if the cops and fbi cant take you down, they need to call in for help from someone who "can". I remember in GTA III when the army soilders had an assault rifle that would take you out in less than a second, even with full health and armor. I remember those. My best memory is the marked man mission. Where you help ray get to the airport, but if you cross the bridge they have those guns and you die within seconds. stranger44
I sure hope they do put the army in V. Vice Beach
How is the army appearing when youve killed 100+ police officers and blowing sh*t up with a RPG unrealistic? It wasn't very realistic that in IV all that happened was that the Swat team came around. Hell, 4 stars wasn't much different than 6.
Mister Pink
It's highly unrealistic the things that people do in GTA games. Why deny something that exists? If you go around killing people like maniac, then something reletively equal to counter to that should reflect in the game - ie. The Army. If you are going to be the most insane mass murderer in a game, killing innocents, robbing fighter jets and robbing cars all in one chase then it's only right, something of equal proportion is there to counter balance the action. Rockstar always do a great job of presenting a real-world scenario with entertaining action. The army is like when you want to go to 11. It's quite hard to last long with the army too. Just cops and SWAT gets boring after a while. Its a nice achievement when you get 6 stars and you hold off for a while. Oh and if I do go on a killing spree, say for 3 days in the game, non-stop they wouldn't think of having someone from the army come take a look? It's boring to know that there'll be less authorities after you. Edited January 16, 2012 by ThePinkFloydSound RUBBΣR░J♢HNNY (スオッ)

Mister Pink
It's also a sort of proud moment in GTA when you say to yourself, I'm so badass, I killed about 140 people and I'm so f*cked up that they got the army after me. Yeah, it might not happen in everyday life but you are the exception because you are crazy. Also, it takes skill to do that. It's not like the army show up for a couple of street murders. You have to kill cops. And when you kill cops you have to kill SWAT. And when you kill Swat, then the Feds come and if you manage to kill enough Feds, the army come.
