I really wish it was possible to have a car that was *ours*. Meaning we keep it during the whole game.

They should also make it easier to keep a car for during a mission. I hate when I go into a mission, and lose the car I used to get there.

PERFECT CAR SYSTEM:

I have given this topic much thought, from back when San Andreas was released. I think I have fairly simple solution:

We keep the system as it was in San Andreas and IV: you put the car that you want in your parking spot / garage and it will be stored there.

But we add a few features:

  • The cars you add will be saved in your parking space (the computer remembers it's "your" car when you park it there), so they will become your's, until you discard them. You could do that by going to the car tuner / garage and sell it, or going to the car scrappage. (is that the right word? I'm not sure, English is not my native language)
  • You can only still have as much cars as you have parking spots. I think the Saints Row system is a bit too unrealistic.
  • When your car is destroyed, you can retrieve it at the garage, by repairing it for a decent amount of cash.
  • When you lose your car when you get arrested or die or when you lose track of it during a mission or just general dicking around, you can retrieve your car at the impound, for a small amount of cash. But sometimes a friend (or homie, if you have them, like in San Andreas) of yours will find your car and deliver it to your house, because he/she is just such a nice person.
And voila, a functional and realistic (and perfect, I might add) car system.

What do you all think of this? I thought of this when San Andreas was released, because I never used my customized cars then. I was too afraid to lose them.

I do like that system actually. You could steal it out of the impound lot with the penalty of gaining stars.

i loved having certain cars at certain houses. having a system where you can add loads of cars into one garage would be cack.

If there is any big houses or mansions in the game then I hope the driveways count as parking spaces. Then you can show off your flashy collection.

I think you should have to purchase the cars from a car dealer, and once you've bought it, it's yours forever. You can upgrade it, take it on missions, trash it and it will still appear in your garage at each of your safehouses, along with a fee to repair it. With this system you can still go out and steal yourself that infurness but you won't have the benefit of owning one, and having it respawn each time, until later in the game when you can afford one.

Oh and to everyone going on about "realism" screw realism, I mean keep the realistic graphics and physics but at the end of the day I want to have a fun, functional and feature rich GTA!

Guys may I remind you that this is Grand Theft Auto?  While saints row & friends may have convienient features like that, keep in mind that those games are a whole different type of gameplay.

GTA aims for realism. they want you to steal, maybe even buy your vehicles. Having an almighty vehicle that always respawns for a fee would seem cool, but it would ruin the atmosphere.

Look around. You see amazingly detailed pedestrians and landscape. Then you blow the sh*t out of your Comet, go to your garage and you have it again.  Like, NO!  It just ruins the whole damn aspect of Realism!

Ridiculous post. Please go and play GTA IV. If you think that game is even remotely close to what real life is like, I strongly suggest you seek professional help. Realism should NEVER take priority over a useful/convienient gameplay features and options. In real life when you go on a rampage and kill tons of cops and civilians and destroy tons of cars, two things will happen. One of those is that you'll be shot dead. In which case you won't respawn at the nearest hospital! The second possibility is that you get arrested. Unlike GTA there's no way in hell they'll let you back on the streets! By your logic if we die in GTA the game should be over, and if we get arrested we should have to serve time in jail and go to court. I'm pretty sure it's unrealistic to carry like 8 weapons in your back pocket. In real life you cant eat a hotdog to heal a gunshot wound. I could go on and on like this. The realism excuses people use for lacking useful gameplay features is absolute bullcrap.

Still when I see posts like these I really have to hand it to Rockstar. It really is amazing how brilliant their marketing is. The way the marketing for GTA IV makes people actually believe GTA IV was super realistic is just....wow.

Exactly. Detailed environment? Yes, it should have all of those small details for Pedestrians to access and do. Realistic physics? Hey, I love crashing cars and throwing objects around, so yeah. But if you seriously think that keeping the magic garage out for the sake of realism is a good idea, then seriously, screw you. One of the main reasons people play games is that they have cool conveniences that real life doesn't have. Skyrim has magic, Ocarina of time has hover boots and a free aim slingshot and walnuts that stun enemies, SR games have a convenient garage system that makes it so you don't lose hours of customization during one shootout or chase. So yeah, listen to this guy.

(Response to bolded part): I have actually seen people request prison time for every single bust. I can't believe it either.
