ccrogers15
PS1- Spyro Crash Croc Gex PS2- Sly Ty the tasmanian tiger Ratchet and clank PS3- Sly (the first 3 got ported, and a 4th is coming) Ratchet and clank My opinion PS1 got the best of the platformers. Sly is OK on ps2, i love ty and R&C. Im happy sly is making a comeback. Mad the ty is forgotten, same as crash and croc. To be honest, platformers now are nothing compared to PS1 eras. And whats worse for ratchet and clank, is that with the breakup of insomniac from sony, due to a legal thing, and there next game being multiplatform, the next ratchet and clanks will be multiplatform. Being a long time insomniac and naughtydog fan, it feels weird to see insomniac develope for other platforms. Vextroid
They were sold to bigger publishing companies and were whored out for eternity. R.I.P Crash Bandicoot. Also the advent rise of other genres being tweaked and playable on consoles such as FPS's and RTS's etc. overshadowing the ol' platformer. @ccrogers15 Sony owns Ratchet so that won't be going multi-platform any-time soon. Side note, it weirds me out when I see classic platformer characters such as Crash in "Next-Gen" better graphics. I can only play and enjoy the Crash games that look like a crappy PS1 game. Guess that's what they call nostalgia.
ccrogers15
Forgot, remember that Little Big Planet is classified as a platform game, and its exclusive to the playstation console family. (PS3,PSP and PSvita).
_Rob_
True, but it's more 2.5D than the sprawling 3D platformers that I love! Don't get me wrong I love LBP, but it doesn't fill the void!
Ash_735
For the likes of Crash and Spyro, they're now owned by Activision, and that kind of speaks for itself. Naughty Dog, who created Crash Bandicoot for PS1 and Jak & Daxter on PS2 then went to make the Uncharted series on PS3 and now working on "The Last of Us", Insomniac Studios, who created Spyro went on to create Ratchet & Clank and continued with those games through the PS2 and PS3 era whilst also focusing on the Resistance series. Sucker Punch who did the Sly Cooper series on the PS2 went on to do the InFAMOUS series on PS3. That covers most of Sony's main first party studios. _Rob_
Yes, I know it's a shame, but it still doesn't explain the lack of titles from other dev's.
ccrogers15
Well maybe one day insomniac will obtain the spyro IP again. I can only hope. Also maybe little big planet 3, can be called little big planet 3D and be a 3d platformer instead of 2.D. I doubt we will se LBP3 until next gen systems come out.
