Who should have remained alive?

During the game, I bet you all felt sorry for somebody who was killed, whether this was Claude who killed him/her or not.

 

So, the question is, who of the characters killed in the story did you wish to remain alive?

 

Mine is Salvatore Leone... I grew to him as I played the game, and it was a shock to have to kill him, even though he (possibly) set Claude up.

Asuka seemed to have a thing for Claude, I would have liked to see that develop further. I felt no remorse for the others, except maybe Kenji because he was a friend even though he called Claude useless.

I really liked that Gang War than GTA SA's.

I was ticked that asuka died. Actually, it never shows how she died really. The one dude got stabbed, she was just laying there. Maybe shes not really dead. Good question for a future Q&A for GTA3 on rockstars site.

Anyway, I voted for Asuka, cause the others just deserved to die, more or less.

 

Sal deserved it, cause he most likely DID order the "Last Requests" trap for Claude.

Miguel just had no other chance. If we had a gun on our head, we´d also give away our money, just to stay alive I´m quite sure that if he escaped or could have been released, he´d plan some evil sceam with his fellow-columbians to pay back Claude and Asuka.

I didn´t quite like Kenji because he seemed a bit irreverent towards Claude. Especially in his last mission. Luckily DL wanted to cap him.

Catalina - do I even need to explain why not her?

Curly, Chunky and Mike were killed just because of business. SPANK sellers, "big mouth" drug addicts and guys who owe money in such a life just know that some day they might come to an unfortunate end.

Marty was a strange guy and maybe that´s why the citizens got lucky that he got killed. No new flavors for Liberty City´s dogs no more, aww...

He should be dead anyways lol, a small story error occured in GTA:LCS. GTA:LCS takes place 2 years before GTA 3, and you kill him in that game. Pretty strange eh?

I voted Salvatore, but more so i would have saved Asuka, and Kenji could have lived too, Salvatore kinda had good reason, but maybe Claude could have held him hostage until the order was taken off?

Actually, that was Maria who sent the pager message telling Claude about the rigged to blow Cheetah....This is when Maria introduces Claude to Asuka at the docks in Hove Beach...

 

However, it would have been cool if Asuka stayed alive, seeing how it would have made more sense story-line wise, as the way it is, at the end the Yakuza have no leader, since both Asuka and Kenji die...? Also, the Yakuza is pretty much the only gang that doesn't turn on Claude..

 

But, about Catalina, anyone who has played San Andreas were probably ready to kill her in III-lol

I have to vote Asuka because I felt that death was somewhat cheap and tacked on, she was one of the central characters of the story yet the way it was done was a "blink and you miss it" kind of thing, heck I think the camera focused more on Miguel's body than Asukas', although personally I think the amount of dead characters by the end suited the nature of the story (which to me is much darker than the future GTAs which aimed for a more Tarantino-esque experience except maybe for IV) but Asuka's death should have been handled a bit better than the write-off she got.

 

BTW, a bit off-topic but I notice a lot of people talking about being disappointed at how fast they killed of Salvatore, to be honest I always got the impression it was Asuka who planted that bomb in the car and not Sal because the Yakuza had been at war with the Leones since 1998 and to finish off the Leones they had to get Claude out of the way and the best way to do it was to plant a bomb in the car and have Claude either A. be tricked into believing Sal planted the bomb by Maria or B. Die in the blast ridding the Leones of their strongest asset, either choice would have been acceptable to the Yakuza although they could use Claude to whack the Leones himself if they could manipulate them into thinking he was set up. If you play LCS you would notice Maria is pretty deceptive herself and treats men like cash machines and it's not too far a stretch to think she can manipulate Claude with that hokey story (Why would Sal tell her what she plans to do to her new boyfriend? Why didn't he kill her knowing she would spill the beans to Claude the whole thing? Why don't the mafia members shoot at you on their turf until AFTER you gun down Sal despite Maria saying you are marked? Also there's no chance in hell the cartel would have dealt with the Leones after they blew up the ship, they could have easily squashed the Leones considering how powerful they are even with Claude on the Leones side.) plus I doubt she would shed much a tear if Claude died, she was pretty intimate with Asuka and could use her like she used the men.

Later Forellis lost alot of ground from other gangs and only have Staunton Island and Portland Island in 1992. There's a big part you left out there-The Forelli's were nearly wiped out back in 1986, since the leader, Sonny Forelli, as well as a lot of their members were killed in Miami by Tommy Veretti at his mansion on Starfish Island during the last mission of VC. Then more were killed in the next to last mission, Cap the Collector, in VC as well...So, they were basically wiped out in '86.? Even in SA(based in 1992), during the Las Vegas missions, Salvatore mentions about the Forelli's getting pasted down in Florida...

 

By the way, Spoilers were not necessary, as since VC is 10 years old(came out in 2002), and SA in 2004,so, pretty much everyone has played the game and knows the storyline...

ASUKA for sure! She thought Claude was handsome, and she was a powerful woman. GTA III is the GTA who has the most women in charge, have you noticed it? And Yazuka is one of the only gangs which isn't mad towards Claude in the end of the game!

I was also a bit saddened to see Donald Love disappear but I guess that kind of thing helps reinforce GTA III's shady vibe.
