TCTproductions
I'm having problems geting a mic to work so i can voice chat. I'm using a USB Xbox 360 controller with a Xbox 360 wired mic pluged into the controller. I set the mic as my default mic and disabled all other recording devices. as you can see in the pic below, the green bar is lit indicating it detected my voice. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/26/unledtpc.png/ Even though it's registering that my mic works and it works with other applications, it will not work with Games for Windows Live (GFWL). When I try to chose the Voice Recording Device in the GFWL voice settings, it only displays "USB Audio Device" and not the xbox mic. I tryed the usb option and it's not the xbox mic and I dont have any other mic. But when I chose the Voice Playback Device, it clearly shows that I can chose to have other gamers voices play through the "Headset earphone: (xbox 360 headset)" and it works when people say something. So i dont know why it will not show the mic on the headset as an option but it lets me chose the earphone on it as a playbac device. Does anyone know how to fix this? unc13bud
do you have the newest gfwl client? i really don't know much, never seen this before. and you are not playing through steam also (maybe there is a conflict)?
radioman
From looking at that picture you posted, it looks like you have 2 microphones-one external and one that comes with the PC?(as noticed cause it has the same codec as the Sound card-VIA Audio)..So, have you tried using the PC's default microphone-the 2nd one in the settings? Also, it says your Sound card is disabled(as noticed by the way it says Unavailable under the Stereo Mix selection), that has to be active, as seen here, this is what it should look like when the microphone is working: (For Windows 7): and for Vista: Note: I just checked the images, and they do not stretch the page, so it is all good. EvilDog77
I had this problem and managed to fix it tonight. It was Steam all along. Shut that down properly (from the system tray icon) and now my mic works in Live. You might want to download the update though, just in case. EDIT: Next day... Mic still works but Steam is still running. Must have been that update after all. Edited January 17, 2012 by EvilDog77
