Grady Featherstone
Hey guys, I know this question has been asked many times around the Internet, but I just can't seem to get a straight answer, so just hear me out!!!!!! I am looking for a reasonably priced graphics card to play GTA IV on good quality settings. I have been looking at the nVidia GeForce GT 440, which is 1 GB and under $100 But, I just wanted to know from everyone, what their recommendations would be???? I have heard of virtual graphics cards, but I would rather something proper...... Also, I do want something that would keep up pretty well with GTA V soon to come out!!!!! I am looking to really spend not much more then $100...... Below are my system specs if it helps!!!!!!: Windows 7 64-bit 8 GB DDR3 RAM Intel Core i3 at 3.1 GHZ No graphics card I have been playing GTA IV on the lowest settings possible ever since I got it (Lowest settings aren't the most desirable way to play the game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) If I forgot something, then let me know, and I'll update it!!!!!! Thank you in advance!!!!! -Grady Edited January 14, 2012 by Grady Featherstone
unc13bud
with a gt440 (do not know paricular features/specifications because you did not link) you can play on low/medium, and you WILL have to tweak the settings.
luceberg
You would be better off with a secondhand nvidia 8800/9800GT.

Grady Featherstone
You would be better off with a secondhand nvidia 8800/9800GT. I searched that card on eBay, and it said it was a 512 MB card.... I updated the post with a link to the GT 440. The GT 440 seems to have higher specs in most areas........ Have those two cards been tested well with GTA IV????
friendly luggage
Depending on your PSU I would recommend an ATI 6770 which is $99 http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_p...oducts_id=17572 Or go a little extra and get a 550 Ti $129 http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_p...oducts_id=16899 If you have no PCI power connection then I would get an ATI 6670 $89 http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_p...oducts_id=17539

While I had my computer open to add in other hard drives, I saw all the other cables from the PSU.... I didn't know what the PCI power connector looked like, but I searched it on Google images and the connector is familiar, so I am sure that I have some of them..... My Power Supply is 620 Watts, so I'm not sure really what your recommendations would be from there.... I am happy to spend a bit more then 100 bucks!!!!!! -Grady

yoječ
I'd go for HD6770, most of the time it's no slower than GTX550Ti while it's priced more reasonably. For the price of GTX550Ti you can buy a faster HD6790.
adamove
dont buy ati its sh*t in gta 4 for 1650 resolution buy gtx 560 for 1920 resolution gtx 580 for 2560 resolution there is no card on market that will play this game at this resolution with good framerate that for all option very high, THE WAY IT SHOULD BE PLAYED! Or maybe something in between for him? A GTX 570 offers great performance for the price, and it can play GTA IV maxed out.
unc13bud
A GTX 570 offers great performance for the price, and it can play GTA IV maxed out. not with a dual core CPU it won't. maybe if some one is using one that's 5ghz... spending all of that money just gets into the realm of diminishing returns. You would be better off with a secondhand nvidia 8800/9800GT. this is the best answer, imo. we (low-budget gamers) know for a fact that gta IV will work with this card and a dual core CPU. plus the 9800gt on the website you linked has a power connector. some of the other guys here know that i just installed gta IV on an dell optiplex 320. both low power 9800gt (no power connector) were having issues-the xfx9800gt wouldn't show video at all, and the pny 9800gt was having issues getting to the correct resolution. this is because dell cheaped out using some sort of motherboard that doesn't provide at least 75w to the pci-e x16 slot!!! the hp a1230n also, the better benchmark framerates were with the pny 512mb 8800gt... yoječ
Yup, depending on a game and resolution, GTX550Ti is either slightly faster or slightly slower than HD6770. Radeon losses less performance with higher res than GeForce.

unc13bud
if you can buy uk, just check scan.co.uk http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-evga-gt...dvi-i-mini-hdmi i think they must be like the newegg of the uk, i see their ads all the time on the back of my custom pc magazines. the reason i recommend nvidia only is because i can get a pretty good idea of the performance of a video card right off by looking at the shaders. the rop count and stuff like that matters i suppose... but for me i don't like looking at an ati card talking about it has 400 shaders and can't run GTAIV out of a paper bag! get out of here with that, ati
Grady Featherstone
Thank you so much for your help guys, I just bought a Gigabyte nVidia GeForce GTX 560 Super Overclocked model, so I should be able to play the game maxed out!!!!!!!!!!! I am also hoping that this will be enough to power GTA V when it comes out! I went slightly over my price limit, I spent $231 including postage, but I think that it's worth it!!!!! Once again, thanks everyone for your help! -Grady
YankeesPwnMets
No, its not going to run on max with an i3 and GTX 560. Medium-High to High is reachable, but I really doubt it at the absolute maximum. Night shadows are an FPS killer.
