ccrogers15
SOPA is not as bad as you think. Japan already has this issue and there form of SOPA was passed years ago. Its not as bad as people say, however for example if R* supports it, and it passes, this site can be legally taken down by rockstar. Oh and if retards were not poor, and they did not pirate, we would not have SOPA. Too bad fools are poor and pirate. Oh well.

The thing I find funniest about the bolded area is that all the P2P programs that we see today, BitTorrent, Limewire, ect. were all created by the people supporting SOPA. LewisMiller
I recently got a capture device, will SOPA mean I can't upload videos to YouTube? But then R* has always been sh*tty with recording of their games!
Slamman
If you do it before the official release, anyone who bought the physical disc knows it checks to validate your purchase date, it's a massive PITA but the companies want every dime for their work, and you have little grounds as just the game playing public, not the producer or coder, or studio. There's a question from developers in arguing a loss of sales due to some bad apples out there, any law is not meant to hamper legit consumers, just those bad apples, keep them in check. In other words, the part where a law affects those who abide within the law, but there's a gray area, that's when it's time to cry foul, but not to the extent a game maker's hands are tied in collecting revenue and making sure they get paid for their hard work Edited January 14, 2012 by Slamman
ONEkingscar
No but i have a feeling it will affect modders if they try to put real brands in GTA(replacing sprunk as sprite).

Talking about games isn't a violation of copyright. You need to read the main internet censorship site. If it shows logos (like here), and it shows pics of gameplay or vids of it, it can be considered copyright infringement. Trust me, ive been on this for about 3 months now. If it shows logos (like here), and it shows pics of gameplay or vids of it, it can be considered copyright infringement. Trust me, ive been on this for about 3 months now. That's the absolute worst case scenario. Even if companies (who in this scenario are headed by the offspring of Lex Luthor and the Wicked Witch of the West) were going to go after every instance of possible copyright infringement (which they won't because there would be no money recovered in exchange for pissing off your customers) It would be a waste of time and money going after the sites that embed content. They'd simply ask YouTube or Imageshack to stop hosting it, and put more pressure on them to vet content more thoroughly. As I said, the chances of games companies wanting to shut down sites because they used a logo or hosted game videos is slim. Very slim. It's free advertising, and evidence of their "reach". The focus will be on the sites that allow illegal access to the actual product they're selling, the games themselves.

SchizNitz
If anything it would probably help out R* and GTA V, with less piracy, no leaked vids (unless you want to get in trouble with the law), etc. But if we found out R* supported it, R* would loose lots of fans and customers. Triple Vacuum Seal
So much wrong info on this thread. For one, people are over reacting because this will never pass. Two, if for some crazy reason the bill does pass, it will be revised to an entirely different bill given that the current framework of the legislature is a violation of the 1st amendment. Three, UNAUTHORIZED copyrighted material will be banned not copyrighted material. This means that companies would likely allow their copyrighted material to be posted all day long if it is in their interest, like the copyrighted material on this forum that brews conversation and in turn profits for R* when their products hit the shelves. I believe that online piracy is wrong and SOPA tries to fight that but SOPA is retarded and drafted by a bunch of old f*cks who plan to govern online information in the age of information yet have no real education on how the internet works in the realm of social networking, hosting, and file sharing(which is most affected). Besides, this law grows the gov't by spending tax dollars to persue a civil issue criminally. And if it pass it will only be a matter of time before it goes worldwide. Hopefully it will never pass, it's so stupid. Removing the freedom of the Internet is just sooooo wrong. jlamay
If this bill passes, which I hope it doesn't, there won't be any use for the internet then, right? Everything will be taken off like maybe this webpage and even YouTube? YouTube is where I find out about a lot of games, and if I want to buy them or now. Am I understanding this correctly. I'm a bit confused about this law, if it passes. Edited January 16, 2012 by jlamay
