UncleVlad
Hi lads,I'm not too up to date on the American government, being Irish. What is SOPA? It's a law that can cause you lose a sh*tload of money. It's for copyright and stuff. For ex. If someone on PSN has a avatar of a BMW, BMW can charge you for copyright infringement. Staten
It's a bill that, depending on who you talk to, is either something that will give the media industries more power to close access to torrent sites or it is a means to shut off the internet. It will not affect the development of GTA V in any way. As SlavicAssasin224 says, the only way it could affect you is if SOPA becomes law and you download an illegal copy of the game. mikkenugent
Sops won't effect V in anyway because it's to stop internet piracy unless R* is illegal download in the IP from someone else.

Rucke
There might be some satirical radio commercials or in-game websites didacted to SOPA, but otherwise no.

Are they retarded? Really? Actually SOPA will be s**t for legit buyers who'll want to get the game via GamersGate, D2D, Steam etc. For "pirates" who use P2P and I2P networks it won't be a problem so SOPA failed once again. CorneliusCoffin
According to SOPA a lot of the posts above ^ are potentially illegal because they contain material that is under copyright by R* and other companies (i.e. signatures, avatars but also the little icons with the PS/X-Box/ICQ/MSN-logos)
Tori_95
And will SOPA interfere with modding?
JoanCrawford
God, are you f*cking kidding me? That really pisses me off, the people who passed that law are a bunch of old bags who've never touched a computer in their life.

However, we do not live in that world, and this thread is about whether SOPA will affect the development of GTA V. We have established it will not. If you want to discuss how much of a bogeyman SOPA is, there's a thread in the debates section.

LoveMediaExecutive
Theoretically it could affect Rockstar and GTA V, it's very easy to abuse the law as it's written in the bill's current form, anyone could take sites down just by sending false takedown notices to the Justice Department, that means anyone with a grudge against Rockstar say an angry parent group or fan or even rival game publishers and this would affect Rockstar heavily as now they have to take resources out of advertising GTA V and put it into trial costs and legal bills, plus we'd lose a main source of information on the game with their newswire down. If this could happen, it would have already happened before SOPA. It's the equivalent of Jack Thompson trying to get a GTA game off the shelves. You know how well that worked. Besides, as I understand SOPA, anyone wishing to impose a "takedown order" on Rockstar would need to prove copyright infringement, and the proof needed is not something that can be made up on the fly. Snake Without a Tongue
Yes, SOPA will interfere with literally everything about everything. At least potentially. The only way it might directly affect GTA is if R* protests like a lot of other companies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Online_Piracy_Act Wikipedia kind of sucks, but if you're truly as ignorant as most people here sound, it's a good place to start. Slamman
Wtf? sopa is aproved?oh f*ck!!!! go to shoot the f*ckings stupid sopa´s Learn not to burn..... Illegal warez. The biggest impact could be for YouTube uploads where you don't own any rights to the content. Buying a game online or off the shelf should not be an issue, just pay for the thing, All right? CryptReaperDorian
The thing that really concerns me is what user uploaded content on YouTube (or similar sites) will be considered. Would posting a montage for a certain video game be considered "copyright infringement"? If this law really goes as far as that, then that's just complete bullsh*t. Also, let's look at these EA hypocrites. EA supports SOPA, and then they bring up the Bill of Rights for when Bell sues them for using their helicopters (with the actual names of the helicopters) without permission and/or payment in Battlefield 3.
