bluesboyjr
I hope we don't see Vice City in another GTA. I know I'll get flamed for this but hear me out. Vice city was designed entirely as the "80's Vice" theme of Florida coastal cities in the 80's. If we revisit it in any other decade, it's going to look like it is during those times, not as exciting, more run down, LOTS of old people, vacationing people everywhere, it'll lose a lot of the "Miami vice" feel, which is what the game originally banked on. I also don't think R* will go back to the 80's in that area again as it's already been done in both Vice city and Vice city stories. I know a lot of fans (especially those who grew up in the 80's) Look at Vice city with rose tinted nostalgia goggles, but for the reasons I stated above, Don't expect a remade Vice City, it's been done, and the idea of it just wouldn't fit into any other decade. It's much more likely R* will be basing the Next GTA off an entirely new city, Chicago and Washington are both potentially good ideas. This. Personally, I see GTA Vice City as an almost perfect game. The thing that made it work so well was how well the setting lends itself to the experience. However, like you said, the game's geographical setting wouldn't really work in any other time period, and I can't see Rockstar redoing "Miami in the 80s" without it feeling like a rehash. Akavari
This will be the last one for awhile I feel. I can't think of anywhere the series could go immediately after this. They could do Vice City or London but what I'd really like to see them do is launch an ultimate GTA online. I'm talking something massive in the same vein as World of Warcraft or All Points Bulletin, only it would be the game to end all others.
Sean5
Ever see the starting of assasins creed revalations? that trailer where hes about to be hung the graphics on that? Yeah lets hope games will be like that soon enough.

There is a lot of speculation that the wait for the GTA after V will be longer than the IV-V interval so that's why R*'s trying to make an epic game in GTAV. *My prediction for the next GTA is either a version of Chicago or Liberty City again with the ability to travel to a recreated Washington D.C. and London. On next gen consoles too. "shut up, sit down, relax"
Gtaghost22
If PS Vita count as a current generation console/handheld then no GTA V wont be the last GTA this gen, but if it doesn't count then YES it will the last (and best) one this gen
018361
Hmm It all depends if you count the possible DLC's as separate games like some people did with EFLC.

I never thought of that. Youre definetely right with this one, Ghost. although i wouldve loved to see vice city in V, i thinks its perfect to end with a vice city on the vista. unless they pull a miracle out of there ass and make VI on this gen 360/ps3. customkingpimp
Don't think so - technology is always changing. GTA5 might look good now, but just wait until you see the GTA in 2026. GTA in 2026 will consist of you REALLY running around the streets.
Durden
Well considering a rather recent statement from R* said "We will not end the series until we replicate the world outside", I think It's safe to say that GTA V is not the last we'll see of the series. Snake Without a Tongue
It's definitely the end of the generation, excepting DLC, so I think it's safe to assume the end of the cycle.
arodtwlv
I defiantly can see Rockstar doing this with GTA for a while now. They start with the Base - GTA IV for example They make this within 3-5 years after the console is introduced. Then they come out with the second game (The BIG ONE) on the console generation - GTAV This comes out from 5-8 years after the console came out depending on how long the console plans to stay on the market. So GTA will be made twice per console cycle. The base and then the Big one after Rockstar has the fundamentals down.

The console as we know it could be gone in the next couple of decades.

And what if GTA V IS the simulation of the world outside ? Of course, it's not. I probably won't be gaming anymore in a couple of years so GTA V is my last GTA Better be good. Even VCS lost a lot of that spark VC had, but I wouldn't mind modern Miami. infact I think it would be cool to have Cuba or atleast a portion as an island. I live in Miami and as much fun as it is to live here theres really nothing super special about it. Miami in the 80's was like a completely different universe. I have also lived in Socal and I think it would be very hard to create a current day Miami that didnt feel exactly like Los Santos other than landmarks. OT: Other than DLC if it happens Im positive this will be the last title for the generation. If this game is going to be as big as they say and look as good as it does than you know they are already pushing the boundaries of the PS3 and XBOX 360. But on that note the reason we had so many games for last gen was 1. easier consoles to work with 2. they used the exact same setup for all three games. IV-V is a huge difference. So this will hopefully mean that they will be able to use the setup for V and bring us another GTA sooner for the next gen consoles but just putting V's setup into overdrive. CDT_boss
Rockstar should make a GTA set in the 1970's Chicago - Detroit - Midwest area! That would be wicked!
Sanjeem
Rockstar should make a GTA set in the 1970's Chicago - Detroit - Midwest area! That would be wicked! That would be good. In fact I was planning a modern day concept thread on those two cities exactly. Maybe in the 70-80's it's a better Idea. Maybe include Las Vegas as well if we want the mob involved. That's a great Idea actually.
Jabalous
The games coming at the end of a generation of consoles always be the big sha-bam, and they always push hardwares to the furthest point possible. GTA V and Assassin's Creed III are two of more titles that will mark the end of PS3 and Xbox360 generation in an explosive way. They will be like PS2's San Andreas in terms of massiveness. I believe that there will be a new installment in MAFIA series coming from 2K Czech, and that will be another sha-bam.
grope_4_that_date
My question to all here is if you think that GTAV will be the last for this console cycle? GTA5 is most likely the 'San Andreas' of this generation. Judging by the trailer, they're putting everything they got (meaning gameplay and features) into this one. So yes, I think it's the last one. kj2022
i think it is the last in this generation, i dont think we'll see an end to the GTA franchise anytime soon, i think the main problem is the economics, younger people are finding work to be able to live basically, so the gaming age is going down. grope_4_that_date
I think it is the last of this generation, but I don't think we'll see an end to the GTA franchise anytime soon. Oh, agreed. GTA5 will never stop, because it never gets old. Rockstar is smart by releasing they're games 4-5 years apart. It gives people a break - and a crave for more. Royal55
Wow, didn't realize this topic was back around, hah. I didn't even think of that whole Vita thing someone mentioned, is Vita considered "this gen" or "next-gen"? What do you guys think? Since it's pretty late in this console cycle, I'd consider it a quick jump into "next-gen". But if that's the case and they release a GTA for Vita in the near future (seems kind of inevitable) and that GTA is in the same canon as V, we could rule out the whole console cycle/canon theories, eh? If we're to consider a Vita game after V and let's assume Vita is part of this generation of consoles, than maybe V won't be the final one. From what I've seen from the Vita, the thing looks powerful, powerful enough to create a full blown Grand Theft Auto experience that we're used to, in the palm of our hands. I'm very curious to see what's in store for the future, very curious..
